Hi ladies

Would you mind if I joined?? Been lurking for a while but was hoping I could join now that we are entering the world of IVF again.

We had a successful IVF attempt last year which resulted in my daughter who was born last September so has not long turned 1. I have bicornuate uterus and severed endometriosis and after 3 years TTC we went privately for treatment after the NHS was too long a wait. I had 13 eggs collected but despite a good SA only 2 fertilised and only one went back (due to my two wombs) and the other embryo wasn't good enough quality to freeze (although I've since found out it would have been good enough to go back fresh, which saddens me a little). Anyway, we've been back to the clinic and need to have ICSI this time round as we were super lucky things worked out last time. Although I'm proof that it really does just take one good embryo!

I was high side of low AMH last time and did long protocol. I need to have AMH repeated to decide what we do this time. Am I right in thinking that typically women with low AMH do short protocol ie pay the minimum amount of drugs cost? We paid the full wack last time, about £1200 so that would be long protocol, is that right?

Thanks

Sunshine xxx

JessieMcJessie · 25/10/2015 01:03

I have low AMH and was advised categorically that long protocol was not right for me, short was better to work with natural cycle. Had quite a high dose of Gonal F, think drugs were about £750.

bananafish81 · 25/10/2015 08:08

Hi sunshine, I have very low AMH and like Jessie was advised def not appropriate to have long protocol. However because of my low AMH I was on high stims and my drugs bill was def not cheaper as a result. My meds alone were £2k!

Vixxfacee · 25/10/2015 08:22

Bessie great news about your embryos! How are you feeling about the transfer?

I haven't heard anything about mine! I think I will get a call tomorrow.

JessieMcJessie · 25/10/2015 09:47

Wow banana that's hefty. I will be on max Gonal F this time (450) so it will be more, but I wasn't prepared for 2k I have to admit.

bananafish81 · 25/10/2015 10:11

Mine came from healthcare at home - Asda are probably cheaper. I had 4 x Gonal-F 900iu pens each @ £350. They lasted the 11 days of stims as my dose was dropped down. So I was 450iu for 4 days (2 pens) then 300iu for 3 days (1 pen) and 225iu for 4 days (1 pen). If I had been on the full dose for the same amount of time it would have been quite a lot more. Then there was 8 days of Cetrotide, one Ovitrelle trigger and several boxes of Cyclogest (as yet unused as I haven't yet had transfer).

sunshineonarainyday1 · 25/10/2015 10:24

Wow Banana, that is a lot of money. The clinic had medication ranging £800-£1200 and be paid the top amount of £1200. This is in Wales tho so not sure if prices vary for the drugs in the same way treatment does. We used LWC Wales and the treatment costs for everything is lower here (sorry!) than LWC London.

I've not long come off the mini pill (to stop endometriosis coming back since having my DD) and need to have two bleeds before can have AMH done again. Sods law now I want AF to arrive its taking ages!

JessieMcJessie · 25/10/2015 14:51

Wah banana my clinic recommends healthcare at home and I am on the same meds "cocktail" as you. However I am sure it was less than a grand last time and only difference was I started on 300 of Gonal f and stayed on that throughout. Will go back and check my papers, maybe I had fewer days of stims.

bananafish81 · 25/10/2015 16:59

sunshine Good question on the drugs pricing varying. To my knowledge, as you say, although the cost of tx itself can vary immensely amongst clinics and geographically, the (private) cost of drugs is the same nationally if bought from the same supplier. So wherever you are, drugs bought via H@H should cost the same, though they may cost less than drugs bought from Asda.

The main difference in costs TBH is prob the drugs used in each person's protocol. Stimming with Menopur is way way less expensive than stimming with Gonal-F - the Gonal-F is recombinant (synthetic, lab-made - whereas Menopur is extracted from menopausal women’s urine - hence the name). So I think the costs for meds vary depending less on where you are and more related to your protocol.

My tx has been eye wateringly expensive - but as you say, that’s partly because of London costs (and also because we’re directly with a consultant who operates as a satellite clinic, rather than with the clinic themselves). Although the drugs were a massive whack of the overall cost - if I’d stayed on the top dose of stims, it would have been a lot more too. Having to do a FET instead of being able to transfer within a fresh cycle has added on another £3.5k. Urgh.

Hoping your AF comes soon so you can get your AMH done! xx

bananafish81 · 25/10/2015 17:21

may cost more* than drugs at Asda

Vixxfacee · 26/10/2015 10:45

Just had a call from the hospital. They freezed 3 today. They will call me tomorrow to let me know how the others are doing as they are slow growing. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing but feeling disappointed!

MiraclesDoHappen82 · 26/10/2015 10:57

Any frozen is a good thing vixx are they day 5 freezes then?

Vixxfacee · 26/10/2015 11:06

They said they have frozen 3 5 day eggs. Then they will let me know tomorrow about the rest but she didn't elaborate much just said they are slow growing. So maybe they will just be frozen tomorrow then if suitable.

MiraclesDoHappen82 · 26/10/2015 11:23

That's good. Are they fertilised?

Vixxfacee · 26/10/2015 11:24

On Friday they said 16 had fertilised which is why I am disappointed only 3 have been frozen today. Hopefully tomorrow will get some good news. Need to stop being pessimistic!

Waitingimpatient · 26/10/2015 12:12

I had 16 eggs collected too and three frozen but mine were 1xday 3 and 2xday 2

3 day 5 embryos is great though, hopefully the others catch up and van be frozen too, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

Vixxfacee · 26/10/2015 12:49

What happened with yours waiting?
And thank you .

Waitingimpatient · 26/10/2015 15:13

I had the day 3 embryo transferred this month but it didn't work. Have the 2xday 2 embryos left which we will either transfer or we are considering another fresh cycle to see if we can get some better quality day 3 or preferably day 5 embryos to transfer instead as the quality of the day 2 ones was not great

Have my follow up in a couple of weeks so will see what the doctor says then. I'm leaning towards doing another mild IVF cycle and seeing if we can 'bank' some more embryos

bessie84 · 27/10/2015 07:27

vixx 3 is 3 hunny, i know it must be disappointing with you having 16 fertilise, but you have 3 good blasts/potential babies in freezer.. thats really good.

we had a 5 day transfer yesterday - im PUPO . doesnt feel real, and id like to keep it that way so it doesn't play on my mind with worry. we got 25 follies, 14 eggs, only 5 fertilised. 3 made it to blasto. we transferred 1, froze 1 and ones been given extra 24 hours cos it wasnt as good as rest so they'll decide today what to do with it.

transfer was ok, bit scary, i was sedated. due to egg collection i kept wriggling and crying, so they thought best to sedate.

dunno when OTD is, going back for more monitoring weds (ohss) so will find out then

xx

Congrats Bessie - and Vixx yay for three fabulous quality blasts. Keeping everything crossed for you ladies x

Hi. I thought I'd join this forum to share experiences and get advice from ladies who are going through the same as me. I'm starting IVF next week and am feeling anxious yet excited. My husband and I have been TTC for 4 years. We had an ectopic a couple of years ago and have started private fertility due to my age (41) and my BMI! I'm well aware that it might not work first t e but am hopeful! Since going for our first meeting with consultant it has moved really quickly which caught me off guard! All test results came back good - me and husband - especially for my age, so no real reason for not getting pregnant, obviously just need a helping hand!
