Any on looking to start ivf/icsi in the new year?

Just wondering if anyone would like to keep me company and share the ivf/icsi journey. DH and I are both 35 years old and have been trying to conceive our first child for 10months. DH has lowish sperm motility and I have a low amh (7.24). We haven't had any luck so far and so the next step will be ivf with icsi in the new year. We are thinking of starting end of feb or march. Would be great to share the journey with others in similar situations and hopefully make some friends along the way Smile

I would definitely get your GP to refer you and get on the NHS list, you never know it might be shorter than you think.

The sniffing is going okay though I'm getting fearsome headaches. I'm not sure if that's Buserelin, progesterone withdrawal or just stress, though I've noticed that they peak around 30 minutes post-snort!

I'm drinking plenty of water, taking paracetamol, and the pharmacist has recommended lavender oil, which is at least comforting even if it's not effectively analgesic.

I go to the clinic for my injection teaching session today. I have a load of questions about the medication delivery (the pharmacy instructions differ from the clinic protocol so I just want to double check.) I'm waiting for the withdrawal bleed now (expected any time in the next 4 days or so) then I can be scanned to check I'm ready for stimulation. Fingers crossed...

Hugs all round!

Just found out that I'll be on lentogest for 10 weeks if successful. I'm sure I won't care if we are successful but sheesh... That's another £1,750. The consultant didn't discuss anything that will happen post ET with us at the consultation. She seemed extremely rushed. I wish I'd pushed to know more now.

BadgerFace · 15/01/2015 21:26

Is that progesterone warrior? What format is it, injections/pessary/something else? I'm just wondering if there's a cheaper version for you for a similar result... My progesterone is pessaries and I am sure is cheaper than that. Are you buying straight from the clinic? Maybe get some other quotes at some point if so? I hope you found the injection teaching okay. I found on my last cycle that Hotel Chocolat was a fundamental part of my injection regime... Wink

warriorbot · 15/01/2015 23:34

My protocol says injections of progesterone (the lentogest) and progesterone gel (crinone) so I get progesterone by both minge and syringe!

I looked online but fertility2u were the only stockist I could find and they have none in stock. Do you know where I might try?

Hotel Bloody Chocolat... Damn good idea. I regularly meet a friend for hot chocolate and sympathy at their cafe near London Bridge. I see this becoming almost a daily occurrence!

Thank you, badger!

BadgerFace · 16/01/2015 10:38

Ha ha, minge and syringe has me laughing at my desk, after a tough morning, thanks! Don't know if that's better or worse than up the back passage!!

I would ask at a big Sainsburys or Asda - they may be able to order it in for you if they don't routinely have it (I got my progesterone pessaries from Sainsburys).

I am probably passing you at London Bridge some days warrior! And this www.hotelchocolat.com/uk/shop/collections/products/chocolate-box/milk-chocolate-selection is what your DH/DP should be buying you - I only allowed myself one a day after I'd done the injection(s). I'd never had really posh chocolate before. It nearly made me look forward to the injection each evening so I could try the next choc...

mrswishywashy · 16/01/2015 14:03

Oh did someone mention chocolate? It appears it's a necessity for treatment time, good to know. The hotel chocolate ones look scrummy so will order them in preparation.

Think this weekend we are ordering drugs (£1190 from asda) and sperm so all ready for beginning of February. I'm due on the 1st and really hope AF doesn't come any earlier.

Hope you all have a peaceful weekend planned.

warriorbot · 20/01/2015 21:56

Just started the stimulating medications! How's everyone else doing?

mrswishywashy · 20/01/2015 23:05

What meds are you taking warriorbot?

This week is an expensive week. Sperm is paid for just need to sign form and send it when I'm home on Friday. Medication script is in and we will pick it up on Saturday. I'm trying to eat healthy and walk every day. Have a week and a half of current job then off for February so will start sleeping better and also doing meditation.

warriorbot · 21/01/2015 09:00

I'm on 150iu of Merional and 225iu of Fostimon. I'm feeling dreadful but I think that's bugs, not drugs. I visited a friend at the weekend and the family were all getting over something nasty.

Sounds like everything is lining up, MrsWW. Exciting and expensive, isn't it?

BadgerFace · 21/01/2015 20:27

Sorry to hear you're not feeling great warrior, although at least a bug should be gone quicker than drug side effects!

That's exciting mrsww that the swimmers are on order! Are you off for the whole of Feb? That will be great if so.

I start down regging on Monday which feels quite close and I'm getting excited! Work hell finishes on 31 Jan so I am looking forward to that. Found out yesterday that our vendors have found a house so our chain is complete and we should be moving at some point in March, hopefully after embryo transfer but who knows! So all go round here it feels at the moment...

don't be shy to join in! Smile

Persipan · 21/01/2015 21:11

My baseline scan and injection demo (and maybe actually starting the drugs, not sure yet) is booked for Friday...

BadgerFace · 21/01/2015 21:18

Good Persipan for Friday. The injections aren't too bad, it's a lot of mind over matter I found!

Persipan · 21/01/2015 21:48

Yeah, I'm not really worked about them tbh.

Persipan · 21/01/2015 21:49

Or even worried!

SecondSunrise · 22/01/2015 08:42

Hello! Can I join you? I'm due to start my first (and only) pop at IVF this month. I've got my detailed planning meeting next week and pre-op assessment the week after. I start downregging at the end of the month.

I know wishywashy from the IUI fred . We already have a 3 year old conceived via IUI number 3. My AMH was around 2 4 years ago so am in denial about what it might be now! Oh, and we did try IUI again last year but had to cancel due to no response so fingers crossed we get something this time.

Nice to be at the same stage as a lot of you.

BadgerFace · 22/01/2015 11:43

Hi Sunrise, welcome! Chocolate handouts always accepted! Will the IVF be a completely different protocol for you or are similar drugs used in an IUI cycle? I can guess that the stimming bits are different but must admit to not knowing anything about IUI.

mrswishywashy · 22/01/2015 13:52

Hope you feel better warriorbot.

Badgerface, hope down regging goes well. How long do you do so for?

Persipan, good luck for Friday.

Hi, SecondSunrise, hope your planning meeting goes well and that you get to start soon.

I'm a self employed maternity nurse so have taken all of February off and my next booking isn't until mid March. All my IUIs ive worked through treatment and 2WW but since I work 24/5 or 6 I want to not have to stress about appts during treatment. I'm also worried about the lack of sleep and what it's doing to my egg quality. The bb I'm with at the moment slept two hours last night, I'm exhausted and find it so stressful knowing the lack of sleep can influence egg quality. It's a huge expense ivf and even more so when I am choosing not to work but I can't risk it. I also struggle to lose weight or eat healthy while working however this month have being trying my best. I work with lots of mums with anxiety that happens after bb is born and I'm worried that my anxiety is going to be high during and after birth because the whole ttc is exhausting.

warriorbot · 22/01/2015 16:23

Ooh! Badger! That's really exciting! We are hoping to exchange soon too (although the chain we are in is fearsomely long...) I am hoping we'll move during the TWW - that'll distract me Grin. What are you downregging with this time?

MrsWW, it sounds like a really hard time. When's your last day of work?

Good luck, Persipan and Sunrise.

My bug is buggering off. So far I'm tolerating the Fostimon and Menopur well. Drinking lots of water and taking omega 3 capsules as well as the conception vitamins as it seems to help with egg quality for older mothers-to-be-to-be!

I've started blogging...a bit half-heartedly so far but I'm hoping it'll be nice to look back on all this and laugh nostalgically!

Persipan · 23/01/2015 20:32

Appointment today was fine; I now officially know to stick myself with the pointy end. Here's hoping I don't have too many side effects...

BadgerFace · 24/01/2015 13:52

I'm going to be on Buserelin warrior. Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. Omega is definitely good to take.

I am very hungover today after my birthday dinner yesterday. I thought I might as well have one last hurrah! Fingers crossed the abstinence will need to go on until the end of the year...

Good to hear your appointment went well Persipan.

warriorbot · 24/01/2015 15:36

GrinGrinGrin at Persipan.

mrswishywashy · 24/01/2015 16:19

Happy birthday Badgerface

Just back from picking up meds. Huge pile. Poor body is going to get a shock. Got them from asda and am missing needles:-( Also need to get a sharps bin. Getting nervous now.

BadgerFace · 24/01/2015 18:01

You could try asking your clinic for needles and a sharps bin MrsWW, the nurse gave me both (for free) at my appointment even though I am self-funding.
