Any on looking to start ivf/icsi in the new year?

Just wondering if anyone would like to keep me company and share the ivf/icsi journey. DH and I are both 35 years old and have been trying to conceive our first child for 10months. DH has lowish sperm motility and I have a low amh (7.24). We haven't had any luck so far and so the next step will be ivf with icsi in the new year. We are thinking of starting end of feb or march. Would be great to share the journey with others in similar situations and hopefully make some friends along the way Smile

I started injecting today! Yippee! No matter what happens now the loooong wait is over and for that I am truly grateful. I haven't really got my head around the idea that I have to inject again tomorrow I'm not really over the trauma of this morning Shock

Whatlife, where do you live (if you don't mind me asking) that you get four cycles? Is that on the nhs? We get max two, including cancelled cycles....

whatlifestylechoice · 20/02/2015 10:23

What's the teacup ride warrior?

Congratulations on starting injecting Galinda! I was so excited when I started too! Grin

I'm In France, so we get a good few rounds paid for by the French equivalent of the nhs. We're very lucky in that respect, as I don't think we'd have been able to afford it otherwise.

BadgerFace · 20/02/2015 11:32

Not too long to go then warrior, I hope you're enjoying a glass of wine or two on the teacups...

The tablets are taken orally whatlife which I have been very grateful for up until the moment of actually having to take them - I've just realised that injecting twice a night at home (like I did when stimming on my fresh cycle) is actually way more convenient than having to a) remember to carry the tablets wherever I go and b) take them in the middle of the day when I am at work/on a bus/running around after DD! I get to start the pessaries in 2 weeks and will be on those 3 times a day too soon enough. [whispers although I might use the back door for them, from experience it might be more uncomfortable for a few minutes each time but then there is no wax leakage which used to drive me nuts...]

Good luck with jab number 2 Ga!

warriorbot · 20/02/2015 13:04

Ah, the teacups, whatlife, that's because I had to freeze my lot because of OHSS. So no more ups and downs this month, very relaxing, but I'm not actually going anywhere for a couple of cycles (contrast with the IVF rollercoaster!)

No wine yet, Badger but lots of blue cheese and coffee! Happy injection time, Gaaaaalinda.

lucieloos · 21/02/2015 13:59

AF has just arrived 2 days earlier than predicted which means I'm not going to be able to take enough time off work to start ivf as planned in March and will now have to wait until April. It's always something Hmm

whatlifestylechoice · 21/02/2015 14:08

Ah crap, sorry to hear that lucie. Is there no way around it?

I had one good embryo transferred this morning, so now I'm on th 2WW and praying for stickiness.

lucieloos · 21/02/2015 14:28

No I don't think so whatlife I am having ivf abroad and don't have my new annual leave allowance until April. It was looking ok as I could take 2 flexi days for the last 2 days in March when I needed to be out there but now af has arrived earlier I would need to go out there earlier so it's not going to work. Just feel like this journey is never ending when friends are falling pregnant all around me!

Good luck for your 2ww got my fingers crossed for you Smile

BadgerFace · 22/02/2015 07:33

Oh no, lucie, how frustrating for you! I know you didn't want to tell work but is it worth a conversation with HR to say you need 2 days sick leave for an operation and get the clinic to write a letter if needed? Although I understand if you'd rather wait one more month and then not have to tell them. I've not told work I'm doing it, and (I believe!) they are still none the wiser after my secret fresh round three years ago.

good to hear one is on board whatlife!

lucieloos · 22/02/2015 07:38

Thanks badger I've had a chat with dh and we are going to wait. It's only 3 more weeks as I have short cycles and it will make things easier. He doesn't have the time off to take in March either. Bit disappointed and upset yesterday but we will get there!

So, I have tested today as instructed by my clinic, and it was a resounding negative (which is rather what I'd anticipated).

On the plus side, this does mean I can get the stairs painted - I pulled up half the carpet a while back but got bored before I finished, and had only just realised that finishing the job probably wouldn't be an ideal activity during pregnancy!

I guess I'll give the clinic a call tomorrow and think about next steps...

lucieloos · 22/02/2015 11:38

Really sorry to hear that Persipan. Hope you are ok and can have a nice relaxing weekend and look after yourself.

OP posts:
warriorbot · 22/02/2015 12:03

Hugs for you Persipan - well done for finding things to throw yourself into while also getting back on the rollercoaster. Hope the conversation with the clinic yields positive advice and practical next steps.

GalindawithaGa · 22/02/2015 12:24

Persipan really sorry to hear that Thanks good idea to concentrate on a project in the house.

I'm on day four of injecting, gonal f and cetricide. High risk of ohss so going in tomorrow for scan and bloods. Haven't really felt anything so far but am hoping something is happening in there!

BadgerFace · 22/02/2015 13:11

Oh Persipan I'm so sorry to hear that. Good idea to throw yourself into a project and I hope that the clinic have some good suggestions for the next stage.

Good luck tomorrow Ga.

I'm on Day 2 of the oestragen tablets - they are rather disconcertingly bright blue! I have horrific headaches this week, which I think is from the Buserelin but who knows. Am also very teary at nothing which is very out of character, and very annoying - hope it doens't continue at work next week!

mrswishywashy · 22/02/2015 17:25

So sorry to hear that Persipan, hope you take some time four yourself over the next while.

Hope everyone else is having a relaxing weekend.

Nothing to report for me. Still quite tired from the stimming drugs but no signs of anything happening on the inside.

Jessewalt · 22/02/2015 20:21

Sorry Persipan. Thinking about you x

We had seven eggs collected on Monday, all seven injected, 5 fertilised but one looked "odd" so was discarded. 4 left - 2 high grade and 2 low grade. We were using a special camera technique called EEVA which predicts blasts before they are blasts IYSWIM, so I had one of the high grade transferred on day 3 which was Thurs. The clinic were supposed to phone me over the weekend to tell me if any of the others made it to blast, so they could be frozen - but I heard nothing. Hopefully they will phone tomorrow.
I don't feel any different but I bloody hate the crinone gel! Clumpy and gross.
Test day a week on Tuesday. How on earth do I make it to then without climbing the wall. Torture.

Hope you have all had a relaxing weekend, I am back to work tomorrow after a week off, really looking forward to it!

whatlifestylechoice · 23/02/2015 18:06

I'm so sorry, Persipan. Did you manage to talk to the clinic today?

That sounds good, Jesse. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

Is the crinone progesterone? I'm on progesterone tablets and they're just wiping me out. I think I could have happily slept all day today.

mrswishywashy · 24/02/2015 08:32

I've done a really silly thing and tested this morning. Clinic has given me a test day of next Tuesday. My period app says it's due in four days. I did a first response, waited a minute and saw nothing so jumped in the shower. When I jumped out there was a faint, but clear second line. I'm pretrified and so cross with myself. Trigger shot was done 12 nights ago and was 10000 of pregnyl, I think it should be out of my system. I've no symptoms in fact last night felt quite emotional as I do in the lead up to my period. Just my luck it's a chemical. I can't tell my partner, she will flip so can only come here. I was clearing out cupboards yesterday and found seven tests and told myself not to test but I didn't listen. Argh.

BadgerFace · 24/02/2015 09:49

Oh MrsWW, it's so hard isn't it! Don't be cross with yourself, hundreds of others will have done the same. I would try not to analyse symptoms (easer said than done I know!) as pre-period symptoms and pregnancy ones are so similar.

Stay with us, and vent until next Tuesday. And give those other tests to your partner to hold onto!

Jesse good to hear you have one on board. I hope the clinic were able to freeze some of the others.

I am so intrigued as to what makes the clinics to decide on injections/nasal sprays/tablets/pessaries/gels - so many different permutations and we all seem to be on different combinations. I wonder if it's specific to a clinic preferring one source to another or if it's specific to what our fertility issues are, or if it's just pot luck...

Jessewalt · 24/02/2015 16:01

Nothing frozen at all. Fairly gutted about it and feeling a little like we could be no further forward. Test day Tuesday but I suspect I will test Sunday Monday. I don't want an afternoon phone call from the clinic at work to lead to tears etc.
I am just not sure why none of them made it to freezing. Makes me really worried about the quality. We are both 33 and I swear if I cut anything else out of my diet (alcohol, caffeine) I will be eating only salad!
Just need to keep my fingers and everything crossed for the one on board.

warriorbot · 24/02/2015 16:21

Hi Jesse - not sure about your clinic, but the one we're using (CRGH) was great at letting me speak to embryologists. If you can speak to one of them and ask for more details it might put your mind at rest.

Keep in mind, too, that the one on board is in the best possible environment: far better than the clinic!

Jessewalt · 24/02/2015 20:56

Thanks warrior x

lucieloos · 25/02/2015 19:33

Eeek clinic has confirmed I can start icsi in April! They have recommended short protocol so only about 10 days of stimms! Getting exciting now!

OP posts:
mrswishywashy · 26/02/2015 07:51

Badger face, I too would like to know how clinics choose the drugs and protocols they use.

Jesse, great that you've got one on board and hope you're doing well on the 2WW. Frustrating about the no frosties but it only takes one and I hope the one onboard is your one.

Warrior, how are you doing?

Lucieloos, I hope the next few weeks go fast for you.

AFM, I've done another test this morning and have a double line. AF is due in two days, official test date is next Tuesday. I'm nervous, don't want to get excited but maybe this could really be a gosh I don't even want to tempt fate and say it. I also am having vivid dreams, seem to alternate between hunger and nausea and am quite tired. How do I get through the next days?

lucieloos · 26/02/2015 08:46

Wow that is so exciting mrsww. Try and keep busy and your mind off it although I know that's going to be impossible! Are you going to keep testing? Fingers tightly crossed for you!
