pebbles I was hoping I won't need the hysteroscopy as we don't really have €1500 to pay for it, but really it would be the best if I did. I am sorry you have to go back next month for another one. Did I understand it correctly that you would than start the IVF the same cycle? Don't you want to try naturaly first? After all this surgeries you are having? Did Penny sugest anything like that? Sorry too many questions

swlondonnanny · 29/04/2014 18:15

Sorry another question to all you lovely ladies who've been to athens - which hotel did you stay in? Would like to book soon for june ( it will be instead of any holidays this year) and just can't decide where to book?

Arianrhod · 29/04/2014 21:09

Oh, so you have to fly out again next month? That's a pain, in more than one way! Still, if it does the trick, then well worth it :).

Scan is tomorrow and OH's Dad sadly passed away just this evening. So terribly sad, no clue how to tell DD as she loved her grandad. :( :(

Well that will tach me not to check to see if there are more posts over the page, sorry ladies! mel I really hope the radiotherapy goes well for your mum.

nanny I've stayed at the Airotel Alexandros all three times I've been out to Serum, I'd recommend it. An easy 8 mins stroll to Serum, very friendly and helpful staff, rooms are nice (although warm! they seem to like it a lot warmer over there than I do!) and 24 hour free wifi. pebbles where are you staying, do you like it?

Oh Ari I am so very sorry, what sad and emotional time for you.
Best of the luck with the scan and thank you for finding time to advice us on athens etc.

BellyD · 29/04/2014 23:12

Ari so very sorry to hear your sad news, what a horrible time for you and your family. Thinking of you and praying the scan tomorrow brings a ray of hope to you all. Thank you so much for taking the time to pop in here and continue to advise everyone.

Pebbles crikey, you have been through the ringer over the last couple of days, but so glad you now seem to have your answer. You must be filled with renewed hope. So pleased for you that you have your next steps sorted, although sorry it involves additional procedures.

Mel hope your mum got on ok. Thinking of you too.

Nanny Antibiotics are never pleasant, but it could make all the difference, and as you say, it's another thing ticked off the list.

Thanks for all your support and comments lovely ladies. Have emailed a load of questions to the clinic in Spain, so waiting to hear back. Duggs in answer to your question, I normally mc between 8-9 weeks because the embryos stop developing at 6-7, so for this to happen at 4+6 is odd - more of a chemical I suppose.

Sending big hugs to everyone who needs them this eve x

Mel3062 · 30/04/2014 04:35

Ari my sincere sympathys to you all so sorry. Hope the scan brings a ray of sunshine for you.
Nanny, I too stayed at the Alexandros as recommended here! I went last May and it was lovely.
Waves to all x

duggs1976 · 30/04/2014 06:33

Pebbles great you have a way forward something tangible. If I knew then what I know now id be straight to serum forget NL. Get that IVF under your belt Cant some soon enough! Belly - sounds similar to my first failed IVF with chromosonally perfect embryos. 2 replaced and wk 4-5 mc dropping HCG and 1 FET negative bfn. Full immunes and no other reason given. Had serum hidden infections via dr G then and then a chemical and a chromosome 16 mc and another failed IVF since then before this pregnancy. So it doesn't make sense why some work and some don't. Have you had uterine environment work ups ? Nanny get those anti bs down you and get saving for serum I think IVF with them could be your answer? Mel how long left on dr G protocol? What's next? Sue - hope you are ok what dpo are you now?

duggs1976 · 30/04/2014 06:33

Oh and Ari hope DD takes news ok and very best of luck for scan today. Thinking of you x

Mel3062 · 30/04/2014 07:39

Duggs got another 3/4 months then I guess it will be another consultation charge to say to have ivf or I go to serum x

VillageMum · 30/04/2014 09:59

Ari I'm so sorry about your FIL. Hope you and your family are doing ok, and that your scan brings only good news.

pebbles you've been amazingly brave and persistent and it's great that you are getting the right treatment!

mel hope all goes well for your mum at her radiotherapy session.

nanny after a month of antibiotics you'll be that much further on the way to realising your dream - and then Serum in June - it will happen!

belly big hugs to you too. Hope you get the answers you need soon.

duggs hope you and baby are flourishing.

I have SO follie scan later today - so we'll see what this round brings.

suemays · 30/04/2014 10:30

ari sorry for your news, I guess you knew it was coming but it's still a shock.

pebbles glad you have got some answers at last!

Out of interest, why have so many of you decided to go to serum over all the other overseas clinics? Does anyone know their success rates for DE? I am still veering towards ivf Spain for next spring but open to suggestions!

village good luck with this SO.

belly when you think that its common to have a miscarriage even when you are younger this could have been the case with a defective egg. Can't remember what the stats are for a healthy 20-30 year old but I doubt its anything to do with the environment. I guess that's why ivfspain have a success rate of 75% over 3 cycles of DE ivf as it doesn't always work first time.

Arianrhod · 30/04/2014 11:26

Thanks ladies - quick update (in a meeting at the mo, supposedly), scan was good, two babies measuring exactly right for dates and good heartbeats. And I saw the consultant, who I'm now under as I'm considered 'high risk'. Only downside of this is that I have to have more hospital appts, which I'm going to struggle to explain to my boss. Oh, and we just got told yesterday there's another huge round of redundancies about to hit us, so now have that worry again! It never rains but it pours ...

/waves to everyone, hope you're all doing ok, will try to catch up later.

Lovely news Ari SmileSmile what are you now ? 8 or 9 wks maybe?

Arianrhod · 30/04/2014 14:09

9 weeks 2 days today.

Mel3062 · 30/04/2014 15:30

Ari that's lovely news x

BellyD · 30/04/2014 17:13

Oh Ari that's brilliant news, has brought tears to my eyes. So relieved for you.

VillageMum · 30/04/2014 19:41

Ari that's just fantastic. I'm sure it puts even the job stress in perspective.

Sue thanks. Had the SO scan this afternoon and was utterly amazed to find that I had four good follies this time. Now one of those eggs has to be (a) successfully fertilised and (b) chromosomally normal! Seems like a tall order.

Pebbles73 · 01/05/2014 13:39

Happy to answer any questions Nanny , Penny advised to start ivf soon afterwards because the adhesions can start growing back. She said start the next cycle but at least within three months of op. We may try naturally for a couple of cycles just to see but keen to get going as have been at this for many years and 41 in September!

Hopefully you want need the hysto but if she recommends it I would try and do it as in my case has been a complete revelation.!!

Defo a pain Ari having another hysto but can totally see why after watching dvd and going of something implants at next ivf it will actually be able to continue now ! So stru about your fil but fantastic news re the scan. When is the next one?

I stayed outside of the centre at Zeas Marina in Pireaus. (spelling might be a bit wrong!) which we really liked as very un-touristy and no holiday makers. Was nice being by water and made it feel more like a holiday. We did have to taxi around a bit though but they are quite cheap.

How your mum got on

Pebbles73 · 01/05/2014 13:44

Bugger posted too soon ! Was saying hope your mum got on ok today mel. Definitely consider going to Serum, wish I had gone years ago!

Belly did your clinic get back to you? How soon can you have the frozen ones put back?

Duggs with you on NL, can't believe spent all that money on ivf with them and had all those scans and they never spotted anything??!

Great follies Village!

Arianrhod · 01/05/2014 13:51

Thanks ladies.

pebbles Ah yes you did mention staying near Piraeus, I remember it being quite nice around there (from many years ago). Did you have a good break (recovery from the hysto aside) and are you now completely recovered? Have you booked a date to go back for the second one?

belly Have your clinic got any answers or change of protocol for you?

village That sounds great to me! Surely one of those four has to be the right one? Crossing fingers for you!

duggs How are you feeling now? Bump getting noticeable yet? :) I feel like a Michelin man at the moment, my tummy is seriously bloaty plus I've put on weight from the wretched steroids. I hope to goodness I can shift that, I am not the svelte and elegant type when pregnant (think Baby Hippo instead) so the last thing I need is extra weight this early on.

pebbles No date for another scan, I assume the standard 12 week one. I have to go back to see the consultant again next Wed (she asked for a copy of the blood tests I had done under Mr S), but not really sure what for.

sue, brown (if you're still here?) and mel Hope you're all doing ok.

Pebbles73 · 01/05/2014 14:09

Haven't booked yet, I have been put on the pill which I need to take for a couple of wks and the af should arrive about five days after that. We may have to wait for the following cycle to sort money out etc.
Feeling a bit bruised but otherwise fine, was knackered yesterday as got up at 5am for flight and previous day 5:30am as had to be at hospital. 6:30am!

How are you feeling about twins? I guess you haven't had much time to take it in really.

Arianrhod · 01/05/2014 15:08

Mostly trying to ignore it for now, but panicking like hell whenever I think about it. Practically, logistically and financially it's a complete disaster to be honest, I have no idea how we're going to manage.

That's the honest answer, I hope it doesn't offend anyone here!

OP posts:
swlondonnanny · 01/05/2014 16:13

Ari why should it offend anyone? That's how you feel. But I am sure it will be all fine - not easy to start with but it will be fine Smile
Pebbles I was thinking about you quite a lot, hoping you feel much better now. Makes sense to do IVF - didn't realize the adhesions can grow back!!!
I booked tickets and hotel for last week of June, should be right time for aquascan and if not we'll just have blood test/sperm tests etc and I'll have to go another time - and that will be our holiday this year. Booked hotel by sea for 5 nights, should be nice there at the end of June.
Have phone consultation booked with Penny so will see how that goes. Katie wrote in her initial email that Penny will want my DH to be on some antiviral tablets for a bit before they do any tests on him due to his medical history so guess we'll discuss that as well. Looks like he will not be doing anything else but taking tablets for next few months... Poor him
When you took the antibiotics did you wait till your period started and started then? Am 5DPO and feel I'd better wait till I am sure I am not pregnant this cycle as those antibiotics surly can't be good in pregnancy?

Arianrhod · 01/05/2014 17:33

nanny I just didn't want to upset anyone inasmuch as I don't want to seem ungrateful that we've been blessed with the chance of two babies when we've been trying and failing for so long now. it's just I honestly don't know how we can manage with two. Anyway, that's a worry for another time. :)

Re the antibiotics - is it doxy and azithromycin you've been prescribed? if so, Penny prescribes them during the run up to ET on an IVF cycle and switches to just using azithro after ET. I know however when OH and I did the 25 day course we were told no unprotected sex during those 25 days, so we wouldn't have been BD at that time anyway - have you not been told this too?
