I have a clinic appointment tomorrow, I think to start injections, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, looking for others experiences and general chat/support.

This is the first cycle, anyone else in a similar position??

Well AF arrived yesterday :( We're both gutted so have decided to have a few months off and start next two rounds of IUI in the new year. I felt low yesterday but have picked myself up and am stronger today.

Good luck to you all, I'll be popping in now and again to see how you all get on but for now, will have a break from everything ttc related.

PinkyLovesCake · 05/11/2014 21:56

Big hugs noncon. Good luck for next year x x x

Hi Girls,

I see this thread is very popular so I will ask hear, hopefully somebody will know the answer.

My husband had a vasectomy 18 years ago. He 's undergone for the sperm volume extraction to test his sperm and results came back that his sperm is normal but I understand it will not still classify as a "good" sperm to get pregnant??

Ideally we want to avoid vasectomy reversal and have his sperm instructed and injected into me. But not sure if it is possible and then how.

Had a chat on the phone with one clinic, they said only IVF is possible or vasectomy reversal and then we can try naturally or monitor my cycle or whatever.

Does anybody knows anything about what I am talking about and why can't they just take his sperm from testiculars and inject into me at the best time of the ovulation? Is it because the success rate is low? I guess there are more chances for that then get pregnant naturally as it will be at the clinic and kind of the best conditions. Or is it now possible at all?

Thank you!!

So sorry nonconformist, it's awful to have a negative but I hope you can plan some restful and nice activities over the next few months.

Elle, I'm not sure about your question as we are using donor sperm but I'd have thought it possible to extract sperm and either freeze it or use fresh and Iui into you. Maybe talk to another clinic?

AFM it's first scan day and the injection training. Am hoping scan says things are ok. For those that have done Iui how long after trigger shot did the iui take place? Our clinic does 24 hours but I'm reading that many others have a 36 hour gap.

SecondSunrise · 10/11/2014 12:04

Oh no Nonconformist I'm so sorry. I hope the break gives you some headspace. I am impressed with how accepting and positive you sound. Did the IUI indicate any causes for it not working out?

Mrs I think our clinic does insem 36 hours after trigger (or maybe 30 hours?)

Elle could it be the volume is an issue? Sorry don't know much about it.

We had to cancel last week, follies were still under 10mm on day 13 after lots of stimms so we made a decision not to waste any more money on it. Not sure what next steps will be, maybe IUI again but starting with the high dose and no suppression. Gutted.

victoria401 · 10/11/2014 13:53

Girls, can I ask about iui? I'll be having drug induced (or whatever its called!) Iui. So when do you start and stop injections? And you get a trigger shot like I've heard about from ivf? On the insem day... How long does things take? Man gives sample and then they have to prepare it yes? What happens in this time? Do you just hang in the waiting room? Argh so many questions!

mrswishywashy · 10/11/2014 17:19

Sorry you had to cancel secondsunrise must be so frustrating.

Victoria I'm doing my first medicated cycle right now. I had a scan today which is day four and start injections tonight. Will have next scan a week Monday and then depending on follicle growth will have a few more days injections. Once follicles are right size I will take trigger shot and at my clinic they inseminate 24 hours after.

Was very nervous for scan but now fine. Injection tonight hope manage it.

SecondSunrise · 11/11/2014 09:32

Best of luck wishywashy, try to stab it in fairly quickly - less painful and less likely to bruise. And have a lump of chocolate ready to reward yourself afterwards!

bessie84 · 12/11/2014 07:18

wishywashy best of luck.

im day 10 of norethisterone to bring on af.... then we're off when af arrives (if scanning dept can get me in)

so glad this is last day of norethisterone, terrible stuff!

bessie84 · 16/11/2014 12:22

CD 1 - YEY! ringing ultrasound in morning to see if wee can jump aboard iui train before xmas. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkk.

anymore updates? x

mrswishywashy · 16/11/2014 17:25

Fingers crossed Bessie.

I've got scan tomorrow to check follicle growth fingers crossing that I've got two nice follies and that Iui can be this week. The injections are fine have teeny bruises on my stomach but they don't really hurt. Wish my partner was more involved but I think she's backing off to protect herself if the results negative. Really want to try this cycle as don't think I'd fit another in before Christmas break and clinic closes.

PinkyLovesCake · 17/11/2014 05:09

Good luck Bessie and wishywashy! Only 10 days until mine- well dhs apt with andrology to see what they suggest (iui or not!).
And mrs ww, it must be hard. I sometimes feel my dh doesn't care or isn't bothered, but then he comes out with really sweet stuff and I know deep down he does. I bet your other half cares a lot more than she lets on x

bessie84 · 17/11/2014 14:17

yey - i get to start this cycle. had cycle day 2 bloods done this am, got my baseling scan on wed cd4 and start injections (gonal f) that evening too. eeekkk.

mrs ww, men arent very emotional are they, i feel the same, but i know my OH wants it just as much (if not more) as me. ps: how did folly scan go?

isnt it poo how they close over xmas/new year, i see there point but it sucks, but glad we get a chance before xmas, i hope we all have bfps for xmas. if now, extra wine and chocs to prepare us for new year hey. thing positive girls.

good luck pinky x

mrswishywashy · 18/11/2014 07:50

Scan went well, two good follies on one side and two smaller ones on other side. Another scan Wednesday with hopeful Iui on Thursday. My partner is much better this week which is making things easier although there is a chance she will miss the Iui if they do it Wednesday afternoon she would be so disapointed if that happened as the other two I've done she has injected the sperm. Can't believe that by the end of the week I could be in the 2WW.

Good luck everyone.

bessie84 · 18/11/2014 13:21

oh poo, sorry mrswishywashy, i called your partner a man, sorry, im slow on the uptake, women can be crap too :-) i hope she doesnt miss it. and yey so glad the scan went well. how long you been doing the injections now? what meds are you on?

mrswishywashy · 18/11/2014 21:20

No worries Bessie, I knew what you meant. I guess whether man or woman having to support your partner through treatment is stressful. Just wish she would talk about it but we are all good. I've just 8th gonal-f injection I don't find them too bad. A bit nervous of scan tomorrow but am hoping trigger shot is tomorrow and Iui on Thursday. Very tired though tonight.

bessie84 · 19/11/2014 09:49

ooohhh good luck with the scan, mrswishywashy come back and update us please. aahhh, bless your mrs, just know shes there in her own way.

im starting gonal-f tonight 75 whatevertheymeasure lol.

baseline scan all went well. we're good to go. tooooooo excited. xx

mrswishywashy · 19/11/2014 12:49

Exciting Bessie. Are you doing the gonal f pens?

Scan went well, one dominant follicle and two smaller ones. Trigger shot this avo and Iui tomorrow. Just done and ovulation test and surprisingly have a positive, they don't usually work for me so seems like timing is good. Have a headache so after trigger shot will take a wee nap.

bessie84 · 19/11/2014 14:47

aaahhh wow weee - im so excited for you. eeekkks! fab news. oh poo, get some sleep, that should cure the headache. do u feel crappy with the injections then?

yes, gonal f pens. totally forgot what im doing but im sure when dh comes home, we'll figure it out. :) i feel so positive today. :)

please update on how insemination goes, eeeeeeeeeekkkk. i wanna come with you lol x

mrswishywashy · 19/11/2014 16:40

Positivity is great.

YouTube also has some good videos of how to use a gonal pen, once you've done it once you'll be a pro.

Had nap and feel a bit better headache mostly gone. Can't say for certain if it's the gonal f I think with treatment you feel just more conscious of everything. Since starting treatment I've had some mild headaches and have felt more tired than usual and also twinning and a fullness feeling in lower tummy. Today it feels like I've a cold coming on.

I'm sooooo glad that Iui is tomorrow as it means my partner can be there and the last two IUIs she's been able to squirt the sperm in so she feels included so am hoping the same this time.

Good luck with your first injection it will be fine.

bessie84 · 21/11/2014 09:54

how did insemination go mrswishywashy? x

mrswishywashy · 21/11/2014 16:55

It went well, the speculum was a bit painful but I don't feel the catheter going in or the sperm. My wife and I waited about fifteen minutes in the room and then went and had lunch. Today I've rested and had a walk and done some grocery shopping but no lifting. Feeling quite tired and am sore above my pubic bone which must be the Cyclogest. Have promised myself I'm not going to go crazy symptom spotting so just keeping relaxed although have googled and if things are going well the sperm should have found egg and be moving down tube while dividing. Argh, test date December 4th.

mrswishywashy · 21/11/2014 16:56

How are you getting on with the gonal-f, Bessie.

bessie84 · 22/11/2014 07:55

aaahhh wow - good luck mrswishywashy, been thinking of you. its so hard not to symptom spot isnt it. keep your mind off things, get into a good book or something.

gonal-f - going brill, my DH doing the injections, no pain, no side effects and left wondering if its working. (when on clomid i had so many side effects ect)

bessie84 · 22/11/2014 18:37

changed my mind about the side effects. headaches, dry mouth today! and had a bit of spotting along with been bloated. stopped now. was only a bit. had hot water bottle n a lay down. always happens on a weekend when i cant phone anyone. hope your resting mrs x
