I have a clinic appointment tomorrow, I think to start injections, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, looking for others experiences and general chat/support.

This is the first cycle, anyone else in a similar position??

Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind me joining you as you all seem like a friendly bunch? (Waves to vic)

We have unexplained infertility, I'm 34, DH 37, ttc approximately 18 months (NHS think over two years). All bloods, SA, ultrasounds and HSG have come back normal.

I attended a fertility appointment today (without DH) to chat about treatment and as I was Cd4, they offered me to start IUI straight away. I had another internal ultrasound which indicated my womb lining was fine, I was shown how to inject myself (did my first one today), have scans booked in with the hope of insemination within 2 weeks!

I feel very shell shocked and feel I am playing catch up to all of you wise ladies who have probably researched more than me. On the other hand, I'm really glad to start treatment ASAP as it saves more time when every month is a let down.

Are there any extra things you think I should be doing theses two weeks??? My acupuncture is booked in, we're both on supplements anyway and are eating loads off fruit and veg and high antioxidant foods. Do people recommend the pineapple core around insemination to help implant??Last minute help would be very much appreciated.

mrswishywashy · 13/10/2014 19:47

Thanks Bessie.

Nonconformist it's probably good in a way not to have time to research so much before hand. I had two failed naturals earlier this year but am planning a medicated next xpcycle, a bit disapointed that I didn't take the chance to start on Friday. Sounds like you're both doing as much as possible, I do think we can plan to do so much and that it overtakes our whole life's and we lose a part of ourselves. Fine if you're lucky on your first go but if you get a few negatives then it hits hard. Good luck with your treatment I won't be far behind you.

SecondSunrise · 14/10/2014 14:50

Good luck to Nonconformist and WishyWashy. We are hoping to start in about a week too, if we can get everything ready in time. Just want to crack on with it now!

bessie84 · 15/10/2014 12:09

eeeeeeeeeeekkk - got our injection training and counselling re-booked for THIS friday! OMG. excited and scared. x

Nonconformist34 · 16/10/2014 13:27

Thanks for the best wishes!

Good luck bessie tomorrow. The injections are fine, you can hardly feel them.

First scan tomorrow morning to check how my follicles are responding to the FSH.Will report back to you all.

bessie84 · 16/10/2014 14:50

Thank you nonconformist. so excited to be starting finally. will be having 10 days of norethisterone first to bring on stupid period, the only cowing cycle that its gone awol! (stress i think)

eeekk, good luck with your scan :)

mrswishywashy · 16/10/2014 17:35

Exciting Bessie and nonconformist and secondsunrise. Good tonhave people I'll be following in treatment.

What drugs will you be using? We will use gonal-f when we start and I hope I'm brave enough to do it.

PinkyLovesCake · 17/10/2014 04:42

Hi Everyone!

I haven't had any notifications of new messages, so haven't been on for a while, so what a pleasant surprise to see so many new messages and lots of exciting news!

Bessie and Nonconformist good luck today!

Chandlers how are things going for you? Do we need to start calling you Dr yet??

Mrs WW it's not long until November. I'm sure you'll be brave enough and fingers crossed this is the cycle for you!

SecondSunrise good luck for next week. I hope you get everything sorted.

I'm feeling a bit left behind now! It's still 6 weeks until we see anyone. But at least we're still having fun trying naturally!!

SecondSunrise-you asked if I was was on thyroid meds- I'm on 175mcg thyroxine. Been on thyroxine around 9 years now, and been stable on this dose about 2 years. I'm due to have my levels checked though. I mentioned it to my GP last time I saw her, but I was also getting her to do a pre- employment recommendation letter, so bloods got forgotten. I must get them done.

Bessie- you mentioined having some meds for anxiety? I hope you're feeling better now. I suffer with depression and anxiety. I'm on Citalopram 10mg. Will this be an issue with fertility Drs? I know there is no real evidence either way for pregnancy and citalopram. I've not had many conversations with my GP about getting pregnant- it's been mostly through my DH's GP and Uroology Dr. I know when I started it I did ask my GP about pregnancy, and she said if I got pregnant we'd have to look at things; if it'd be better to stay on with possible risks, or if I'm well enough to come off at the time. I also occasionally take diazepam, when I have panic/ anxiety attacks. Will there be any issues over starting treatment while I'm on depression/ anxiety meds do you think?

Anyway, I've written an essay...

Good luck everyone!!! Grin Flowers

Nonconformist34 · 17/10/2014 13:05

Hi everyone!

I had my scan today (cd8, day 5 of using gonal-f mrswishy) and have 2 follicles on either side, one measuring 1.1mm and the second 1.3mm with thick uterine lining. They seem pleased that I've got that level of growth already (and I'm relieved not too many of them). Will be re-scanned on Monday with hope of insemination next week! I have to continue injections over the weekend and dtd Sunday.

However, they have warned me that the radiographers and sonographer so may be striking on Monday, joy!

Let me know how you get on bessie

bessie84 · 18/10/2014 09:04

good news about follies nonconformist - oh dear, what a time to go on strike!!

pinkylovescake - im on sertraline, i think its a tiny bit of an issue, best to mention it to your fertility doc, i think they like to know so they an keep extra care on you WHEN (see the positivity) you get a bean on board. there will be no issues to start, we saw fertility nurse yesterday and consultant is aware of my meds and all is ok. like i say, they must know to keep a closer eye on you. im also on 100mcg of thyroxine, have been for 10 years now, another thing they have to keep eye on. good luck pinky.

yesterday went ok, took FOREVER. injection training was easy peasy, we're going to be on gonal f and ovitrelle. dont know dose yet til baseline scan. took forever filling forms in and signing life away, but all worth it. got a couple of blood tests to do as they werent up to date but will be starting in next couple of weeks, i want to get a cycle in asap as fertility centre close over xmas - which is not so far away!! esp in terms of cycles!! ordering drugs monday - cant wait.

good luck to all. im praying this works xxxxx

PinkyLovesCake · 19/10/2014 06:33

Good morning folks.

nonconformist great news about follies. Good luck for your scan tomorrow- let us know how you get on.

Bessie thanks for advice on meds. Being an eternal worrier I always over stress about things, and am convinced they'll find all sorts of reason to turn us away. Good news you finally got your training in. I hope you get a cycle in soon, before Christmas too. It's really not that far off now. Wouldn't it just be the best Christmas present ever to have two pink lines?! Hoping and praying for you too.

ChandlersFarang · 19/10/2014 18:12

Ha ha no sadly I'm definitely not going to be calling myself Dr Chandlers... The soy did bugger all! Had my scan on CD11 and no follicles. Dr told me to go away for 10 days and come back for another scan just in case - the metformin in taking for my PCOS led me to have a natural period so it's possible it might help a follow grow, we'll see. Next scan is on Weds this week. If nothing there I guess we may decide to induce AF and then I'm getting started on the gonadotropin injections!! I've been told these WILL work, but carry a risk for me of OHSS due to my PCOS (I had one cycle where all my follies grew bigger rather than one or two, so it seems to be a risk). Dr knows what she's doing though, and will start me at very low doses and monitor me frequently... Fx that leads to follies and my first IUI!! Just need to get this weds out the way first - pretty sure I won't have grown anything myself, so hoping to get to the next cycle ASAP. Smile

Good luck to the rest of you (sorry, on phone so tough to remember where everyone is at, but lots sounding promising!).

Glad injections training went well Bessie!!! Fx!!! X x x

bessie84 · 20/10/2014 07:30

aaahh chandlers good luck hunny. its so frustrating isnt it x

ChandlersFarang · 20/10/2014 08:53

Nonconformist - that's fab news about the follies - basically exactly the response you want to have! Good stuff.

Question: are you guys getting your treatment free on the NHS? I move home from Thailand in June (to London) and am starting to wonder what the hell I'll do about treatment if I'm not pregnant by then. We are trying for me and DH's first... I have PCOS, he has low motility, and we are both 32. I think that would make us eligible... I guess if we were lucky out here, we would be trying from scratch for number 2 in the UK and having to pay for that ourselves. Does anyone know how much a medicated IUI cycle costs? Shock

ChandlersFarang · 20/10/2014 09:58

I think I've answered my own question about costs via Dr google... around £1000 for medicated IUI and approx £5000 for IVF. Ouch! I also found lots of info about going abroad to get it cheaper - Czech Republic sounding good... Lol..!! Grin

bessie84 · 20/10/2014 10:09

we're paying £700 for medicated IUI.

roughly £5000 for ICSI.

if you have no children (both of you) then you should be entiteld to free NHS? then subsequent children thereafter have to be paid. (i have children from previous marriage) x

victoria401 · 20/10/2014 10:42

Some councils have stopped funding any cycles whatsoever. A friend told me the other week it has been removed from Norwich, not sure how many others have zero funding or whether its just for ivf and not iui as its tons cheaper. The joys of the post code lottery again huh? :-( If you're moving here from abroad I think I read you needvto be registered at a GP for 12 months before you can qualify for nhs help. Also some area (like mine) allow one partner to have children from a previous relationship if they dont live with them!

Long story short me and dh are nhs for 3 iui 1 ivf as have never been preg. Hoping to ring up to start treatment next few days after amh results back. I know there will be at least a month's wait so I dont know if I will start this year because it doednt run over Xmas period. Argh! Turn the dreaded 35 early next year!

SecondSunrise · 20/10/2014 13:46

I'm paying for treatment as this is TTC2. First child was a result of IUI number 3 (so it can work)!

Good news Nonconformist - how are you progressing?

Sounds like you will be ready soon then bessie. We have completed all the bloods/forms/tests and I have my drugs stashed at home now. I'm on Menopur as I was a poor responder to Puregon. Just waiting for CD1 now...should be here anyday.

bessie84 · 20/10/2014 14:41

secondsunrise got my call from healthcare at home (drug suppliers) can collect gonal f and ovitrelle on wednesday......... eeekk. im tooooooo excited. i havent felt this positive in ages. its so nice things are moving. even if nothing is happening quite just yet. eeeeeeeeeek, im so glad you got your first baby with iui, i love positive iui stories :) we've done all tests n paperwork, just waiting on AF too - sigh!! cd 61 for me today, my only messed up cycle this year, probably the stress, so will be having norethisterone to induce it. sigh.......

good luck victoria401 - hopefully xmas holidays wont scupper your plans (and ours!!) in temrs of cycles, xmas is seriously close!!!!!

Nonconformist34 · 20/10/2014 16:40

Hi everyone!

Bessie I'm so excited for you, can't wait for you to start treatment! I think taking all the injections home actually makes it even more real that you're one step nearer to seeing a BFP.

Chandlers I'm the same as Vic,3 rounds IUI and 1 round IVF on NHS. In my area the female cannot be older than 42 yrs and had to have a good BMI too.

Exiting news, I had another dildo scan and my follies have come up lovely. Right side 1.8mm (plus 2 newbies at 1.3 and 1.1mm) and Left side 1.6mm. Endometrial lining 10.2mm!!!!
I dipped pee on an clear blue ovulation stick which came up Smile so did my otriville injection, insemination booked in tomorrow at 10am!!!!! (Dropping DH sperm an hour beforehand, keeping it under my armpit). Can't quite believe it's all happening.

Nonconformist34 · 20/10/2014 16:43

PS. I'm cd11 today, cd12 tomorrow. I thought it would be done nearer to my usual ovulation at cd14/15 but the gonal/FSH has obviously done its job earlier.

ChandlersFarang · 20/10/2014 17:17

I'm loving this thread!!! GrinGrinGrin Seriously, I (as I'm sure we all) have done SOOO much googling and reading of forums about all the various conditions and situations that have brought all of us to this point, and most of them are so gloomy - you girls are ace, and so positive!!

And why wouldn't you be - Bessie, I'm super envious, I can't wait to be picking up my meds to start my first round of IUI!! Yay!! You saw what happened to the originators of this thread - they all vanished to enjoy their pregnancies. It will be our turns soon!! GrinGrinGrin

And Nonconformist - seriously, that is some amazing ovarian work there!! Petty much textbook ideal situation, bodes so well for this attempt. I've got everything crossed for you. Let us know what the process is like, hope it's all a breeze!!

Xx x x

ChandlersFarang · 20/10/2014 17:21

Second - I too love an IUI success story! That's fab news, sounds like your body plays ball so good luck for this round too.

Victoria - I think I remember you from the busses? So you're at the start of those procedures you're eligible for - that's fab, so many opportunities for success. Also great that the NHS is covering it!!

The whole postcode thing is just nuts isn't it. It's only recently that I really understood it, looking into all this fertility stuff. Makes sense to move somewhere that you will get an easier ride, even with the 12 month appointment wait. Luckily I'm still registered with my GP back in London (in a relatively good postcode area for this from what I've read!) and working abroad for the UK Govt, which means I keep my resident status. What a minefield! I've got 8 months left away to get upduffed before I need to worry about all that though at least... and am working my socks off at it!! GrinGrinGrin

victoria401 · 20/10/2014 17:54

Hi Chandlers! Yes I was on the buses until the infertility diagnosis!

Af just started for me, 4 days earlier than expected at least and super heavy and painful :-( 25 days and 10day LP. glad we didn't try this month, had HSG on cd9, think it messed things up.

Omg! non tomorrow! Good luck hun and tell me all the gory details! Lol

Called the clinic today, earliest I can see the Dr is Nov 27th! So there goes pre Xmas treatment. Asked what the Dr needs to say to us as she already told us we needed iui and all I did was delay it to get my head around things. They said to call back tomorrow after someone looks up my notes to see what Dr suggested. Maybe we won't need to see her?! Hope not, she was not a very nice person!
