I have a clinic appointment tomorrow, I think to start injections, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, looking for others experiences and general chat/support.

This is the first cycle, anyone else in a similar position??

Bessie Healthcare at Home delivered my meds too. I don't know if any of yours need refridgerating, but mine did and came in an enormous polystyrene box that took some smuggling out of work.

Nonconformist great response. Hope the insemination goes ok (just like a smear really). Find some boxsets/good books to read to while away the 2WW.

Nonconformist34 · 21/10/2014 15:38

Hi everyone,

Vic Sorry AF got you, fingers crossed you'll be successful now you're all nicely flushed!

Well, insemination went well. Most stressful thing was hoping DH was able to do his sample on time (we didn't mention it until after the event) and then me to get it there within an hour during rush hour. Honestly, I would pay good money to a specialist wank and drive courier to save the stress!!!! What I've found interesting is that since my otriville injection, I've had textbook CM, really clear and stretchy which I'm taking as a good sign.

After the sperm was washed, he had a 60 miilion count (the lab was v pleased) which they inseminated after an hour. I just felt cramps whilst they pushed the catheter in a few minutes after. As per it usual took them ages to get the speculum in place as it kept slipping because of my tilted uterus!

I've been given progesterone pessaries to use for 2 weeks (only because I asked if they were going to inject). I have a blood test to be done on 2nd Nov.AF/BFP will be two weeks today. It's going to be a long 2ww.

Best of luck to the rest of you x

mrswishywashy · 21/10/2014 17:36

Oh yay nonconformist let the 2ww commence. Sending you all the positivity.

My wife and I are paying for our treatment as in our CCG we have to be 35 or under and I was nearly 36 when we started the process. Msg unfair the funding is divided equally.

So far we have paid nearly £8000 that includes two IUIs, a HyCOSy and other blood tests which the gp wouldn't do. Our clinic charges £850/shot of sperm so am hoping it work soon. Natural IUI is £795 and medicated IUI is £1200 plus drugs will be at least £1000. Sigh, can't even think about it but hope it works soon. Ivf which we will do if Novembers IUI ends in a negative is minimum £6000. We will look abroad if ivf here doesn't work.

But I'm thinking positive for no embers cycle and hoping for a positive before Christmas.

ChandlersFarang · 21/10/2014 18:16

Nonconformist - wow! That did sound pretty painless all things considered... Well done for getting the swimmers to work on time, lol!! 60 million is a great count, all sounds fab. Did you not usually get EWCM in your cycles before using otrivelle then? Also how long did they suggest you lie down after the insemination for? Is the progesterone to lengthen your LP? sorry for a million questions, just find this so fascinating! Super excited for you and your TWW now, please feel free to keep us posted with all your symptoms - imagined or otherwise!! GrinGrin

mrswishy - massively got my fingers crossed for you and your wife, sounds like you've really gone the extra mile to get your baby. Good luck!! Keep us updated...

Victoria - I thought it was you!! So what exactly was this 'infertility diagnosis'? From your current painful AF is it something to do with endometriosis...? X x x

Nonconformist34 · 21/10/2014 19:48

Thanks so much for all the well wishes :)

Chandlers I do normally get more CM around ovulation but it's more opaque/white and a little stretchy (not like my textbook EWCM today), makes me think maybe it was hostile to sperm??

I lay down with knees bent for 10/15 mins, then wiped myself down, put a sanitary towel in knickers, dressed then went.

The progesterone pessaries (which can be used either in vagina or anal, haven't decided which yet!!!) are to encourage the right conditions for implanting such as endometrial lining and I assume raise temperature? They can cause side effects of PMT so must warn DH about that.

Mrswishy I've never taken our treatment for granted but seeing the cost of what you've paid has made me appreciate it even more. I truly hope you have some positive news soon.

ChandlersFarang · 22/10/2014 11:08

That does sound quite straightforward Non! I hope you're enjoying being 1 DPIUI! Symptoms..?! Lol GrinGrin

Can I ask you ladies a question? And apologies if you've already said, we're all in rather complex situations so it's hard to remember why everyone's at this stage! Anyway do any of you having IUI have PCOS? My doc has told me today she doesn't recommend IUI for me anymore as I've not responded to oral ovary stimulants, and injections are likely to make me grow way too many follicles to be able to go ahead with IUI safely. She's saying I should go straight to IVF. Which is a bit of a bitch because at the hospital in Thailand it's £6k!!! Which we can't afford. I've checked out our local healthcare policy in the UK and we would be eligible for 6 free IUI rounds and then 3 free IVF, so seems mad to pay here when we are moving home in June.

Anyway it wild be great to know if any of you are proceeding with IUI even despite having PCOS. It's looking like I'm gonna have to take a break from all this til I go back to the UK... Confused

bessie84 · 22/10/2014 13:06

chandlers i have pcos and my cons just starting me off with a low dose and taking it from there. its worth a shot, push it and tell her you'd like to try.

Just picked up my drugs. BIG box indeed, wasnt expecting that, all in fridge now... eeeeeeeeeeeek! xx

Nonconformist34 · 22/10/2014 17:25

Chandlers I have no PCOS.I am having a blood test 7dpiui to check hormone levels, they said that these results can be used to tweak the next cycle to be even more suited to you individually via doses. Ask them if they'll do this too. No symptoms to report as yet, just really tired but I think it's relief :)

victoria401 · 22/10/2014 21:03

I blame u non, had a dream about insemination last night! It was horrible actually, I had the insemination but then realised I'd not had any drugs or scans and that also it was only cd3 (my current stats!). I tried to complain but no one was listening and I couldn't believe that was one of my goes was gone! Anyway, back to reality!

chandlers our 'infertility diagnosis' was male factor which really hit us for 6 and we were very depressed for 4 months but got our referral during that time. Then when we had more tests to check suitability for ivf they realised they'd cocked up dh's previous results and he's fine! We were fuming as u can imagine! We are now unexplained. It made us suitable for iui tho luckily as only get 1ivf here. I may have endo, due to the amount of pain I get, but undiagnosed. Dr said as long as its not blocking my tubes they don't investigate further.

mrswishywashy its a bit tough that they have cut off of age 35 in your area. Its like you get written off then. Hope you get some good news soon so u can start spending your hard earned cash on the nursery instead!

Watching with interest for your 2ww symptoms non!!!!!

Good luck with the box of drugs Bessie!

SecondSunrise · 23/10/2014 13:23

We start injections tonight and first follie scan next week. Here we go.....

mrswishywashy · 23/10/2014 21:12

I find the unfairness of the post code lottery really frustrating and yet can't fight it as time is running out. I guess it's what they count on for no one to fight it. Never mind we have savings, I've just spent the last nine weeks working six days a week so no stress for finance this time. Two weeks until I'm due and we can start, reading all your journeys makes me excited. Let's hope for a positive for us all before Christmas.

Nonconformist34 · 28/10/2014 14:53

Hi everyone, how are you all doing?Where are you all with regards to treatment?

I'm 7dpiui today so had my blood test. I've started with some symptoms but I'm putting it down to the cyclogest/progesterone pessaries. This time next week I'll know if it's worked!!!

bessie84 · 28/10/2014 18:19

omg, non keep us posted. good luck that all the symptoms are for a good cause. eeekk. exciting. bet your 2ww feels forever.

i have to wait til monday to start taking norethisterone for 10 days to start my period, then we're all systems go. (cons been on holiday, nice)

quick question though, what is the starting dose of gonal f?

Nonconformist34 · 28/10/2014 23:29

bessie Thanks for that.I started on 75miu then they review it on your first scan.If there aren't enough follies/some but too small u think they can up it.The injectable pen can go up to 250miu but doubt the does would ever be that high.Good luck with it all.

SecondSunrise · 29/10/2014 09:10

Good luck nonconformist. The days really drag don't they? Thanks for asking, I am on CD8 and off to see what follicles are brewing today. I am really nervous and feel sick. I have been pretty laid back about it all up to now, but I guess now it's really happening and we will know what our chances might be. Botched a couple of the first injections and have quite a bruised tummy but feel ok generally. I'm on Menopur Bessie at 150miu but I am a poor responder. They can up your dose depending on what they see at your first follicle scan. Wish I had the pen, I have the primitive mix up the drugs and old fashioned injection!

bessie84 · 29/10/2014 09:54

good luck second let us know your scan goes.

Thanks for the dose infor ladies, im the opposite, i respond too well (i have pcos) i worry about over stimulating and having to cancel cycles. so im presumung they can reduce the dose too if necessary.

Im cycle day 70 today, meant to be waiting while monday when consultant is back to stat taking norethisterone to induce bleed, BUT i have BAD cramps and convinced af is going to show her face before hand. if AF DOES arrive, what day do you start the injections?

sorry for all questions. xx

SecondSunrise · 29/10/2014 11:31

bessie I started mine on CD2, the day after period shows up. Can you chat to your clinic and ask if you can start injections before Monday if period does start? Have you got your schedule (dose of what drugs on which day) written up? Have you got all your forms and tests done before you can start?

Scan was rubbish. Nothing has really grown, so am doubling my stims and cutting out the Buserelin suppression. Rescan on Monday. Feeling a bit crushed and negative about it all really. Never mind, things can change rapidly over a few days so I'm not out yet.

bessie84 · 30/10/2014 08:16

SECOND - sorry your feeling pants, i really hope monday comes round fast and things have changed for you. your not out yet, like you say, things can change.

all our tests n stuff done. all paperwork ect done. the only thing we havent been told is what dose, but they tell us that apparently after baseline scan. AF hasnt reared yet, so hoping she stays away so can do things as planned.

people who get pregnant at the drop of an hat dont know how lucky thye are! ggrrr. x

NewEraNewMindset · 31/10/2014 09:30

Hi girls, total newbie here. Have been trying to conceive my second child for 18 months, two miscarriages but no BFP since April this year. My bloods have come back really good, we are awaiting my DPs sperm results. I suspect that might not be brilliant due to medication he has to take, but am hoping they are not dire.

We are looking into IUI in the Beds/Cambs area and just wondered if anyone was in a similar location and could recommend.

Thank you :)

Nonconformist34 · 31/10/2014 14:36

Hi NewEra Welcome to the thread, sorry but I don't live in your area so wouldn't have a clue!

It might be worth you starting your own thread in both sections of trying to conceive and fertility as I think you would be seen better therefore reach more people?

SecondSunrise · 03/11/2014 14:34

Sorry NewEra not in your area, good luck with it though. Might be worth trying supplements for your DP, plenty of scientific proof it can help. Lots on the internet about what to take, worth starting asap as it takes 3 months to produce sperm.

Scan today was also disappointing. Keeping going until Wednesday with the stims and if no joy we will have to cancel the cycle I think.

bessie84 · 03/11/2014 16:47

(((hugs))) second cant they up ya dose again? x

bessie84 · 03/11/2014 16:48

not in your area newera - wellman his hers conception have been brill for my other halfs sperm count. give em a bash, worth a shot. we've been on them couple of years.

me - started on norethisterone today for 10 days, so bleed should be here in less than 2 weeks - then we're off. eeekk! x

NewEraNewMindset · 03/11/2014 17:16

Thanks girls. I started him on a supplement called FertilAid about a month ago. I'm kicking myself I didn't do it before but I was convinced i was the problem.

I have read such mixed reviews about IUI, my head is spinning with what to do for the best as I do ovulate by myself so I assume I wouldn't need a stimulated cycle?

Nonconformist34 · 03/11/2014 19:03

Bessie How exciting!Hope those two weeks go fast for you.

Second Hope you'll have better news by awed.

Newera Like you I thought I wouldn't need any stims as I ovulate regularly however, the success rate is increased with them. A normal cycle would only release one follicle but with extra FSH more are released so increase your chances. It really isn't that bad, the hardest thing I've found is the taking the time to all the appointments and scans.

I'm 13dpiui, BFN last two mornings so not holding much hope for tomorrow. Never mind, will do next two cycle in the New Year and have found the process fine really.
