Baby is due in September

So baby could possibly be born at No. 10 Downing street....

The electorate are voting their pockets not baby bags, has no one told you we are in a recession. Floating voters are a fickle lot but they are not that fickle.

Spidermama · 22/03/2010 23:56

I have read it and read it again and how anyone can possibly describe Fizz's post as 'vile' is quite beyond me.

Northernlurker · 22/03/2010 23:57

Oh I can't bear this.

There is an empty place at their dining table, in their car, in their house and you smug cunts just want to keep on talking about the votes and getting all hoity toity about it. I am so glad my imagination doesn't sink so low. They are bereaved parents having another child. I can't comprehend how corrupted and cynical you must be.

Spidermama · 23/03/2010 00:27

Northernlurker I see no 'cunts' on here.

I was very sad for the Cameron's when the lost Ivan. The whole experience was very moving. I'm happy for any couple who have another chance to create and celebrate a new life after such a painful time.

I can also see that the political gain from the timing will not be lost on them. It's not so black and white as you seem to be inferring.

CheerfulYank · 23/03/2010 00:50

Wait so, someone gets to "decide" when elections are? They're not just a set date?

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm totally playing into the "Americans don't know shit about other countries.

CheerfulYank · 23/03/2010 00:50

Wait so, someone gets to "decide" when elections are? They're not just a set date?

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm totally playing into the "Americans don't know shit about other countries" thing. I try, really I do.

CheerfulYank · 23/03/2010 00:51

Damn repeating posts!

ajandjjmum · 23/03/2010 04:16

Congratulations to the Cameron family.

kif · 23/03/2010 05:37

Yank - setting the date of the election is a privilege of the party in power.

Off the top of my head, I think you are required to call a new election within 5 years of taking office. Generally it is done in May-ish of the fourth year. I guess the ruling party places faith in the contentment imbued by spring sunshine! Can be done earlier than 4 years, if the government feels it is losing the confidence of the electorate and needs to renew its mandate, or about to embark on something major.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 23/03/2010 06:09

Four weeks maximum of campaigning is allowed. ie election date is never officially announced more than four weeks before it takes place. Although we all know that first Thrusday in May is almost always when election is called - statistically the chance of getting most voters out (not too cold, not too many peopel on holiday, often local elections held on this day too...)

As for Dave, well of course he will capitalise on Sam Cam's pregnancy. Though why anything SHE does has got anything to do with who we elect to run the country is beyond me. How does designing £800 handbags qualify you for that?

StuffedFullOfNothing · 23/03/2010 07:00

Can I just give a big shout-out to all of those who have posted 'May I just say how completely uninterested I am in this whole subject? Am I the only one who has trawled through 150 posts on a topic of no interest to me just to tell you all how uninterested I am in all this? Now that I have had my say, discussion should now cease on this very dull issue'.

Those who believe this was a cynical election ploy, I like to think of myself as a cynical person but Christ in a Jar. I really hope none of you ever go through what they've gone through. I'm a human being first, and a Private Eye reader second! I think some people here are so busy thinking how clever they are 'I've seen through their little scam!' that they that they can be as nasty as they like on a public forum. You'be happy with SC reading your comments, would you?

Eve4Walle · 23/03/2010 07:07

I am shocked at how many people think this is some kind of publicity stunt. They are simply anopther family chossing to add to their family. They may have been trying for a while and it might not have happened until after the election mightn't it?

Personally, it makes no odds to me whether they have another child or not, and I find it hard to believe that as a nation, we are all so obsessed with cute babies that it may actually swing the election for them. That way of thinking is just bananas IMHO.

CockShore · 23/03/2010 07:14

Congratulations to them both. I wish them well for the pregnancy.

And I certtainly would not think it is to get extra votes. That is a bit sick.

Donkeyswife · 23/03/2010 07:51

Really pleased for Sam, Dave and kids, it's wonderful news, particularly after what they went through losing Ivan.

However, much as i find Sam and Dave charming, I have to keep reminding myself they are the face of the Tory party, not the Sam n Dave party. A vote for Dave is a vote for the Tory party. So on the note, I won't be voting for them, baby or not, but they seem to be awfully nice people.

Donkeyswife · 23/03/2010 07:53

And no, I certainly don't think it's a ploy to get into no 10. I don't think they're that devious and I don't think the voting public would be fooled by such a stunt.

I wish them well.

mummytinks · 23/03/2010 09:08

I'm def not trying to delude myself into thinking that I'm super intelligent for thinking that this fits in a bit too nicely with the election campaign I actually think it is stating the damn obvious.

I have to agree with donkeywifes, Dave C is still the Tory leader and would sell his own granny down the river if it meant becoming Prime Minister.

I wish them as a couple all the very best but would ask them to keep the family life private & stick to the politics of our country for headlines not the politics of their family living room.

morningpaper · 23/03/2010 09:14

Well it's nice for them, but for some reason, I now keep thinking about David Cameron having sex, which is really putting me off my breakfast

Maybe it's not his

lukewarmcupoftea · 23/03/2010 09:15

Gosh, isn't it a lovely day today? I can see the daffs coming out and everything.

And other things of more interest... (and less bitchyness)

morningpaper · 23/03/2010 09:17

I was shopping in Asda the other day when it occurred to me that his face looks like a Billy Bear Sausage

scaryteacher · 23/03/2010 09:28

Having read comments on the Telegraph today about the pregnancy from several men, I thought that MN would at least say congratulations to her, as we are all on here because we are either mums, or want to be so. I am ashamed of several of you, and very saddened by the sheer bitchery displayed by some on here.

So, congratulations to them; I hope there are no problems with either the pregnancy or the birth and I wish them happiness with their new baby.

ABetaDad · 23/03/2010 09:36

Good for them. They are going to be busy if Dave wins the election!

There are some nasty little spiteful comments already appearing on the political blogs I read saying that they had to use IVF as if it diminishes Daveid and Samantha Cameron as people. They have made no public statement to that effect and so what if they did?

Why is it that people from the left just cannot for once have some humanity and not make everything so viscerally peronal?

Disagreeing with political views is one thing but this reminds me of those people who write that they will 'dance on Thatcher's grave' when she dies. How utterly vile.

Clarissimo · 23/03/2010 09:45

Excuse me Abeta some people OK? Plenty of us wish them well and hope that it brings them much deserved joy

Unfair to tarnish all with same brush, plenty of meanies on all political sides I think

tummytime · 23/03/2010 09:51

Congratulations to them. Babies are good news. FWIW, my sister died as a baby and my parents were immediately desperate for another baby. 3 years and 2 mcs later, my second sister was born. So obviously yeah, absolutely planned.

Also, if Ivan had a genetic disorder, why the fuck shouldn't they use IVF if it means that disorder can be screened out.

I agree with NL. I think this thread is a shame.

morningpaper · 23/03/2010 09:53

Here is a nice comment from Cristina Odone:

"I should add a personal postscript. Having had a severely disabled half-brother (Lorenzo suffered from adreno-leukodystrophy and his story was turned into a Hollywood film called ?Lorenzo?s Oil?) I feel that much more strongly that both Samantha Cameron and Sarah Brown are exceptional women and deserve the best. (As to whether Dave and Gordon are the best? that?s another matter.) The heart-ache, self-sacrifice, emotional energy and physical hardship of looking after a child with extraordinary needs would leave most of us drained. That these two women are capable, instead, of 24/7 care as well as of supporting their husbands and their campaigns is pretty humbling for the rest of us. Hats off to the two First Ladies of politics."

mummytinks · 23/03/2010 09:59

I haven't come across any comments that are awful, most Mns are wishing them well as a couple, however we cannot forget that this is politics.

So as voters we have to look at his campaign...lets look objectively. He has so far been marketing his family to the enth degree... we have to accept this, this news is welcomed with congratulations, well done, but also with when joined with his own political agenda.

Politics is very tabloid now and I wish they would stick to the politics, I wouldnt have an opinion on their private life if they didn't parade it around the place.

DC wants less maternity pay less leave...he is not on the side of mums.
