I'm getting a bit confused here... are you talking to me???

Snorbs · 04/02/2010 18:22

noddy, DP's a bigot because she's just a pro BNP bigot. It's not because she's RC - that just provides a cover story for her innate bigotry.

sasamaxx · 04/02/2010 18:26

(not really here as cooking dinner)

...round here the BNP is a bit of a Catholic-hating organisation...is that just here then??

noddyholder · 04/02/2010 18:26

Snorbs I have always known that shame she doesn't admit it really.

FreddoBaggyMac · 04/02/2010 18:37

I do not want to become too involved in this discussion again but have to point out that it is not homosexual references in the bible you should be looking at but in the Catholic catechism. I have been completely ignored when stating this fact so far so I am posting a link in the hope that at least one person will have a look!

here is the link Scroll down to look at what it says on 'chastity and homosexuality'.

I know what is there will be torn to shreds and disapproved of. But please do notice that it says ' They [homosexuals] must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.'

which is why I say the Catholic church does NOT encourage homophobia.

BethNoireNewNameForPeachy · 04/02/2010 18:39

You know, I gotmy lowest ever grade on paul becuase I quoted from the bible and failed to distinguish the sections that wenre't written by him.

So really, I can assumePaulisn;t allapul anyway.

Although obviosuly had I made the lecture on that no doubt I woudn't have got a bloody C

have A Book somewhere, I think. Possibly. Buried under allthe MA stuff thougyh so would have to dig.

daftpunk · 04/02/2010 18:40

Snorbs..

Not really sure what that pile of crap disguised as a post means..

Are you saying that I'm pretending to be a catholic....?

noddyholder · 04/02/2010 18:40

I saw that the last time this arose.there are a few parts of the catechism DP chooses to ignore and gets very touchy if they are mentioned but is happy to refer to it if it suits her odd

topher40 · 04/02/2010 18:41

Must say I do like no2352

"that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action"

Thats me fucked then.

FreddoBaggyMac · 04/02/2010 18:43

Yes topher I know it says lots of things that you disagree with, but can you at least acknowledge that it does not say 'all gays should be stoned to death'

FreddoBaggyMac · 04/02/2010 18:46

noddyholder - not sure if you are referring to my link or not? Is this thread purely for daftpunk bashing rather than anti-gay bashing now then?!

Chandra · 04/02/2010 18:48

" Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.'"

So... why is the Pope taking such stance then. I believe that previous popes and church leader have moved forward with the times, but the new pope is so fundamentalist that no matter the views of the past, he is taking steps back.

I don't think he is Chandra, I think the British media just hate him and want to twist his words in order to sell papers and provoke controversy... but that's just IMO! If he is actually saying anything contrary to the catechism then I certainly don't support it, but i doubt that he is personally.

FreddoBaggyMac · 04/02/2010 18:55

Riven are you talking to me???

sasamaxx · 04/02/2010 18:55

Freddo - liked that link.
It supports the general Catholic view to love everyone, regardless of race, creed, gender, sexuality etc.

Quite anti-persecution in general...

Thanks sasamaxx. To be honest I wish i'd posted it at the beginning of this thread as it is much more worthy of a 27 odd page discussion than some newspaper article.
People have every right to disagree with what catholics believe, but they should at least know exactly what those beliefs are before they do that.

noddyholder · 04/02/2010 18:59

odd views! not just odd

FreddoBaggyMac · 04/02/2010 19:00

Riven - phew, had me worried there!

daftpunk · 04/02/2010 19:01

Riven;

I've never said I don't want them to have equal rights.....all I've said is you can't have openly gay people working within the catholic church and it's schools.....because homosexuality is against our religion....what is wrong with that..?

Would the Muslim council of Great Britain have a Jewish homosexual working there..?

topher40 · 04/02/2010 19:01

FreddoBaggyMac
I cannot remember ever saying it does say anything of the sort and I am quite happy to acknowledge that. This topic is about equality in all aspects of life. I thought we had agreed that it is not about forcing the church to accept openly gay sexually active priests. The bill is about equality for lay people, which, I believe, is the term used for those who work in and for the Church but who are not ordained.

As to the following the rules of the cathecism well the one I pointed out is truly hurtful, destructive, repressive and damaging to both men and women.

daftpunk · 04/02/2010 19:04

Noddyholder;

Really not sure what I get "touchy" about on here..

why don't you tell me...?

noddyholder · 04/02/2010 19:05

There are lots of things that the catholic catechism objects to that would rule a lot of people out of a lot of jobs etc.Why just choose this one?

noddyholder · 04/02/2010 19:06

I think you know I am not going to bring it up again.
