""her point was that the most vulnerable will fall through the regulated cracks as well""
Yes and thats why, I stipulated earlier on, that sex workers should be offered the opportunity to move away from solicitation. This could be achieved through the implementation of a schemes which enable prostitutes to resolve any drug dependency issues, offer vocational training, counseling etc."
thing is, though, tsh, you're already dealing with damaged people by that point, women who have already been abused by men. i'd be delighted for them to receive help, of course, but i see no reason as to why that support shouldn't be available to women even as the men who want to pay to fuck them are criminalised. it's not one option or the other, surely, that doesn't make a bit of sense.
bigger picture, though, as i see it, is that part of the reason why so many men are able to damage women with such ease is because prostitution, lap dancing clubs, even stupid adverts about career women all combine to indicate to them that we are lesser beings.
just telling them that no, actually, they can't transact in our bodies without becoming criminals i think would be an important step forward for society. it's quite a ship to turn around, and there will be casualties as there are casualties with the current system, but it cannot be good for women and for men to have it constantly broadcast that women's bodies are for sale and that our society is absolutely okay with that.
