but back to the point of the main discussion - the footage of the protestors storming the gates is just awful.

How on earth can you protest against a democratically elected politician from appearing on a political discussion programme?

It is the height of hypocracy

Nancy66 · 22/10/2009 22:13

Unfortunately with any protest you always get the rent-a-mob crowd. they've mostly no idea what they're protesting about they just love a good ruck.

mamadiva · 22/10/2009 22:14

Daftpunk I am totally with you on that we all have our own views and people will use their vote how they wish, it is what our ancestors fought for... freedom of speech.

BUT I am just a bit puzzled why you say you would vote for them although you don't want them to gain power. Surely the point is to vote for the party whose views and policies you believe in?!

You don't seem to be a believer in what they say so what is the point in helping them gain power is that's not what you want to happen?

I know on my part that is the problem I have with what you are saying.

(and chin up what happens on a thread does'nt get carried over IMO)

moffat · 22/10/2009 22:16

mamadiva I thought that too, how wonderful that there are people standing up to and protesting against this sickening party.

poshsinglemum · 22/10/2009 22:16

I am proud of my dds heritage and I am glad that I knew her dad even though he turned out to be a twunt.

His being in Iran is an unfortunate effect of global travel but the same could have happened with an English man. Blame foreign travel. Not multiculturalism. DDs dad is Christian btw ( a so called British religion?) and not Muslim. He grew up in Athens.

When I was pregnant my friend was reeling because her white British dp was banging some lady in Thailand. As much a consequence of global travel rather than multiculturalism.

Katiekitty · 22/10/2009 22:17

I would have protested if I was there

Would have done the same should Jordan ever be on the panel.

Ignorance is bliss

Where did NG get his suit?

Who made it?

What about his house?

His medicine, if he ever needs it?

The food on his and his family's table?

His car?

poshsinglemum · 22/10/2009 22:17

Global travel has benefits and disadvantages just as multiculturalsim does.

poshsinglemum · 22/10/2009 22:20

Moondog - I wasn't married to him, and he is half Iranian and grew up in Athens. His late mum was Iranian. His dad was Greek. They were together for 30 years until his mum died. So yes, not all foreign men are liek my ex.

Get yer facts right.

Heathcliffscathy · 22/10/2009 22:22

hello everyone.

nick griffin is a nasty and thick piece of work. his party is NF masquerading (not very well) as something more palatable (bearly).

He has 6% of the popular vote.

Of course he should have a platform on the BBC.

The protesters are doing their cause a huge huge disservice.

Haunty27 · 22/10/2009 22:23

DP - but why do you support the BNP? What is to be gained? I've always respected your posts in the past and now I'm absolutely horrified.

Is someone going to start a QT thread?

nancy75 · 22/10/2009 22:24

i wish the protestors would realise they just play into the hands of groups like the bnp, if nobody turns up there is no news -

the bnp had a rally in where ever today and nobody turned up and nothing much happened is not going to get rolling coverage on sky news is it.
the coverage is what they want.
it was the same with geert wilders(sp) visit last week - a man comes here saying all muslims are fundamentalists, protestors outside carry placards saying death to free speach, muslims rise up ect, alot of people watching the news probably thought that wilders was right after seeing the protestors.

Lizzylou · 22/10/2009 22:25

Ah, Sophable, you are so right.

Lizzylou · 22/10/2009 22:25

Ah, Sophable, you are so right.

Lizzylou · 22/10/2009 22:25

Twice, obviously!

poshsinglemum · 22/10/2009 22:26

Also I am sorry if I hit a raw nerve with you Moondog and I am sorry that you felt the need to attack me and my dd on such a personal level. I am totally disgusted by your ''appraisal'' of me and my circumstances and I bought up my circumstances as reason to state why I was so concerned about NG.

I don't wish to converse with people who have such vile things to say about my family.
This is one reason why I am beginning to see mumsnet as an excuse for vile old bints to tear chunks off each other.

Your mmama must be very proud of you.

Haunty27 · 22/10/2009 22:28

Posh - rise above it.

bodycolder · 22/10/2009 22:29

I agree the protesters have made a huge error of judgement but I think they are just people who passionately object to anyone of those opinions having a platform. Tbh their policies if you can call them that would never be passed as some of the immigration laws they think they can ovre turn are written in LAW but he is so thick he thinks it is just a case of all chipping in to 'send them home'It would be hilarious if he wasn't so dangerous. Be under no illusion he is on the BBC and is saying his bit for his following but he is the NF as sophable says tarted up tp be more palatable to those who aren't intelligent enough to find choice in other political parties

MrsArchieTheInventor · 22/10/2009 22:33

The BBC was absolutely right to allow Griffin on Question Time. It is a programme in which politicians and public figures air their views and are held to account for actions and words uttered by them and their associates. I detest Griffin and everything the British Nazi Party stands for, however he is right when he talked about "the rights of... people to listen to [him] being called to account by other politicians", and by the sounds of it, he certainly was.

I might not like what he has to say, but I defend to the last his right to say it. That's the beauty of democracy. Ironic that the ethos on which Griffin was invited onto Question Time - absolute democracy, free speech and freedom of the press - are the exact things that the British Nazi Party would strive to oppress in their indiginous white's only utopia.

It's now open season on Griffin and the BNP. His nazi past and white supremacist views have been laid bare for all to see. Game on.

mamadiva · 22/10/2009 22:34

Posh keep your head held high, it is'nt you who's made an arse of yourself and you have NO REASON to apologize!

Don't go thinking that all of MN are like that, very few are and it's just that some go to far with their 'beliefs'!

Take it on the chin and move on

mrsruffallo · 22/10/2009 22:35

I do think a response of bored tolerance, rather like a child having a tantrum is probably the appropriate response on this occasion. As it stands I think the protesters seem hysterical and the huge media build up to this is ridiculous.
Good viewing figures for QT though I bet.
The BNP don't even have an MP.

Lizzylou · 22/10/2009 22:36

Posh, you loon, you've done nothing wrong!!!
Don't worry about it.

2kidzandi · 22/10/2009 22:37

Can I ask what does the expression 'freedom of speech' actually mean to people? Do poeple agreee/not agree that it is a privilege not a right, and has limits.

Or do you believe it's automatic and has no limits.

I think people only start passionately defending peoples right to freedom of speech when actually it's something they want to hear even if its vile.

For e.g. Some paedophiles believe they are born with those desires and should have the right to speak about it. Would anyone defend their right to debate/speak for paedophilia as a legitimate sexual preference?

What about murders, rapists, I don't know anything.

My point is should freedom of speech ever have limits and if not why do you think not?

Just trying to understand those in favour of BNP being on QT.

monkeysmama · 22/10/2009 22:37

If nobody turns up there is no
news. So the protesters are the issue. Foolish and naiive. I am proud I got off my arse & went and protested against it.

chegirlknowswhereyoulive · 22/10/2009 22:37

Posh just dont let it get to you anymore.

It is not worth the stress.

Our kids are beautiful and wonderful we do not need them to be approve of by anybody else.

Fuck em.

Haunty27 · 22/10/2009 22:38

Oh well, I guess I'm going to watch it.
