sorry, I read it as pay not being a factor at all, then freezing or putting it up wouldnt affect retention.

beem in lots of armed forces housing. some as bad as average local council stock, as you describe and some much better than private stock.

HerHonesty, I have only ever lived in one MQ, it was so bad, it was actually laughable, we should have been paid to live in this house, not the other way around!

Mold growing on several walls, stained & disintegrating carpets, cooker that we later found out had been condemned years prior to us moving into house, unable to flush toilets properly, water pouring down the wall between house and cupboard attached to house - provided nice damp living conditions for a very friendly toad!
Every kitchen surface/cupboard damaged - although kitchen was approx 30 years old, so not surprising.
I could go on and on,

I am now living in my own home, hundreds of miles away from where my husband is based.

And on the subject of pay, only those who are deemed to be on an operational deployment won't be affected by the proposed changes to pay, I asked dh about this. His seven month deployment won't count as it isn't classed as operational.

The below market rent is also to prevent those on low pay in the Forces having to claim HB to meet the market rent.

If the MQs were let out for market rent, then pay would have to increase to fund that, or a housing allowance would have to be given, and believe me, it wouldn't be spent on renting an MQ if there were a decent private alternative available.
