I watched him last night too with keith Allen cantankerous old bugger at times but still such a talent

FlyMeToDunoon · 15/09/2009 09:51

What he has died today?
oh dear how sad. I have to say that programme was very sad too.
And funny.
But I did come away thinking he had made a mistake in his handling of the daughter meeting.
The cooking programmes could stand repeating couldn't they.

I had the great pleasure of meeting him many years ago when he stayed with my family for the weekend, he was heard to ask if anyone had a mallet to shut me up!!

SolidGoldBrass · 15/09/2009 09:59

I met him -and interviewed him later -about 20 years ago (he had launched a video on hangover cures). He was just like you'd expect from the prorammes.
What a shame.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 15/09/2009 10:02

Just heard this on the news.

He has been serialised in the paper this week.

RIP Keith.

squeaver · 15/09/2009 10:03

I thought the programme last night was incredibly sad. I especially felt for his daughter.

TigerFeet · 15/09/2009 10:04

I watch that James Martin thing of a Saturday morning sometimes and always love the Keith Floyd bits

RIP

AitchwonderswhoFruitCrumbleis · 15/09/2009 10:06

och, that's a shame. i hope he enjoyed his last wee run of attention and affection.

jenk1 · 15/09/2009 10:29

Aw this is so sad,i loved his cookery programmes especially the xmas one where he,d put the turkey in the oven and said it was time to get p*ssed!!!!

RIP. i hope they repeat his programmes.

Hobnobfanatic · 15/09/2009 10:31

Very sad - the prog last night was difficult to watch - a great man in decline.

I couldn't believe, when I googled the news, that the Sun said he'd died of 'bowl cancer'. A Freudian (Floydian) slip if ever I heard one...

shootfromthehip · 15/09/2009 10:33

Oh no- what a day, Keith Floyd and Patrick Swayze- it's too much.

FlappyTheBat · 15/09/2009 10:35

That is really sad, I loved watching his cookery programmes and enjoyed his enthusiasm for something that he obviously loved.

Will have a glass or two of wine for you later!

RIP Keith.

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 15/09/2009 10:37

I watched Keith on Keith last night and thought it was very flat - got the impression Keith Allen felt it hadn't worked either.

How bizarre that the programme was broadcast only yeasterday. I just started another thread on it.
poor Floydy.

WebDude · 15/09/2009 14:05

Sorry, didn't spot this thread earlier.

Great comments from other TV chefs.

I have mostly positive memories (no TV for a while) and will certainly toast him with a glass or two of wine.

I remember when he used to frequent the same pub as us in Ireland (he lived there for a bit...)

2shoescarriedapumpkin · 15/09/2009 19:05

very sad

I learned to cook from Delia's books when I was a student but it was Keith Floyd who made me love cooking and gave me courage to experiment. No doubt he was an old rogue and made mistakes in his life but there is no doubt he added a great deal more to the sum total of humanity than he took away.

I always think of him whenever I cook Spanish dishes, glass in hand, making loads of mistakes but somehow coming up with a fabulous dish at the end.
