admittedly not the world's most respected media outlet, but...

Wonder if this contributed to her resignation?

She didn't preach it Dittany I know, but the church she attended preached it, that it my book is a tacit approval of something. Now if it was a tacit approval of say only wearing blue on Tuesdays I wouldn't be that bothered, but creationism is dangerous.

OK fair point, but if she was getting divorced, it isn't the divorce that's the issue, nor any subsequent remarriage.

It would be any politician, male or female, running for President would have to be married. Obviously not a constitutional requirement, but if she was running for President (or VP) her position would be weakened by being single.

It would be absolutely the same for a male candidate.

But don't believe that because I despise her politics and hate her smugness is misogyny....

Oh Ok dittany, I'll give you that one. She didn't actually preach it as in stand at a podium and say the dinosaurs didn't exist, that we're not descended from monkeys and that she's directly descended from God, but by supporting the belief she gave her approval of it.

You're really going to pick me up on every semantic I know, so I'm not going to get drawn in to an argument. I dislike the woman, not because she's a woman. there are plenty of female politicians I admire and respect. She's not one of them.

Well Dittany, you are talking hypotheticals when you suggest that no one would start a thread on Mitt Romney.

It's OK for a woman to be powerful.

Just not Sarah Palin.

I'm sure people will be discussing Mitt Romney when the race for 2012 opens in earnest. I think it's more likely to be Jon Huntsman, myself.

Are you serious?

Don't like Margaret Thatcher either.

Must be a misogynist.

What do you call it if I don't like some of Gordon Brown's policies?

I don't like Palin's policies.

Doesn't make me a misogynist either.

This thread isn't about Palin's politics. It's about her personal life.

Report
violethill · 02/08/2009 16:32

Yes it is. When you have a political career, your personal life does tend to come under scrutiny. This happens to both women and men. The reason the thread was started was because of this connection between political and personal life.

I respect other people - even women(!) enough to allow them to make their own judgement about politicians.

Aw shucks, thanks, though I think you'll find it's actually quite pertinent to the discussion.

If the story about her getting divorced is true, I don't see that makes her a hypocrite. I once believed divorce and separation were for other people.

Nothing sanctimonious about respecting women. Just comes naturally to some of us. Along with respecting and liking men.
