sad

OP posts:

no, but that doesn't make it OK either. Would you defend an adult sharing a bed with the Matthews children just because Karen Mathews is their mother? It is OK for paedophiles to seek out victims whose parents are inadequate?

I don't get the vehemence of Michael Jackson fans - especially parents - who are so keen to decry his critics when the man himself admitted sharing his bed with children!

hocuspontas · 27/06/2009 09:47

The whole of his quote about sharing a bed is somthing like ' why wouldn't you share your bed with your friends, I would let them have my bed and I would sleep on the floor, that's what sharing a bed is about'.

daftpunk · 27/06/2009 09:47

edam...you can be in bed with someone without doing anything sexual.

violethill · 27/06/2009 09:49

edam - you are ignoring the key point that MJ was aquitted of all charges. You are also making a dubious assumption yourself (along with kerry) that the central factor here is that the children were unrelated.

Most child sex abuse is committed by relatives. Therefore, sharing a bed with a child who is related to you would be seriously dubious and downright wrong if abuse is going on. Equally, sharing a bed with a child who is not related to you would be seriously dubious and wrong if abuse is going on. If there is no abusive behaviour, what exactly is your problem? Why are you trying to suggest that it's abusive?
It might not fit your idea of what is 'acceptable', it might not fit mine, but that does not make it abusive or criminal behaviour.

I am torn by this news. His music was fantastic but he was a bit wierd. He had that body dismorphia thing and the baby and balcony incident was plain wrong.
Listened to his songs on the radio on Friday and they are timeless classics.

edam · 27/06/2009 09:51

Quite, that's why I haven't said he was definitely a paedophile. But his admission of what is, at best, extremely dubious behaviour does make it all the more bizarre that so many parents are quick to defend him and blacken the name his accusers.

What kind of grown man routinely shares his bed with a whole series of children? If he wasn't such a massive celebrity, everyone who is slagging off his critics would be very quick to fill threads full of condemnation.

bobbysmum07 · 27/06/2009 09:56

I wouldn't say I was a Michael Jackson 'fan' particularly.

I liked him, and his music certainly provided the soundtrack to my childhood, but I wasn't really a 'fan'.

I do have enough humanity in me however to feel compassion for a tortured, broken man who spent his entire life surrounded by people who were out to destroy him for their own gain.

violethill · 27/06/2009 09:58

'What kind of grown man routinely shares his bed with a whole series of children? '

Erm... I think this has been discussed at length. A man who has never experienced a healthy well balanced childhood, who has been manipulated by the adults around him who should have provided guidance, and who is unable to make the transition to adulthood.

violethill · 27/06/2009 10:00

Absolutely agree bobbysmum. I wouldn't call myself a fan either, certainly not compared to many people, but clearly the man was a creative genius.

He was the victim here. The victim of bastards who set out to make money through false allegations.

whoingodsnameami · 27/06/2009 10:06

Agree with violethill, I believe in MJ mind, he was'nt babysitting those children, they were friends who were having a sleepover, he was desperately trying to have a glimpse of a belated childhood.

Kerry, am well aware of that, but equally there are many men/woman falsely accused.

HE HAS NOT BEEN CONVICTED OF ANY OFFENCES.

Yes, some people who commit crimes don't get convicted. Does this mean that anyone who doesn't have a criminal record is fair game for being called a peodophile/child molester?

Nobody on here has been an 'apologist' for abuse. That suggestion is quite frankly sick. In fact, I find this sicko Daily Mail mentality the scariest thing of all, far scarier than MJ even with his rebuilt face and weird and wacky lifestyle.

I really think people who have a personal agenda or issues with abuse should seek help through the appropriate professional channels rather than take out their knicker-wetting-rants on people who are innocent.

I think parents who encourage their children to visit, stay with and get bought presents by another person, while planning to screw that person over by making a malicious, untrue allegation, simply for financial gain, are the ones who are guilty of abuse.

Didn't Jordan Chandler actually file a lawsuit against his own father in later years (after colluding with him in the lies about MJ?) Christ, what a family. MJ was a sad and pathetic individual who was screwed over first by his own parents, and then by other people's parents.

'people who have issues with child sexual abuse are psycho. yep. love it.'

Your words Kerry. Not mine. I said that people who have issues, or some personal agenda, should seek to deal with it through appropriate channels. Not take it out on innocent people. If you interpret 'seeking professional support' as being 'psycho' then it says a lot about YOU. Get back to the Daily Mail.

Dittany - for god's sake, can't you do better than start criticising whether someone uses the caps lock?!! And no, I'm not upset, just amazed at people's ignorance and venom.

Anyway, I think MJ was sheer genius. Let's celebrate that.
