I'm going to be cynical here ....

Is he dead? Or is it a way of (finally) getting out of the public eye?

He seems to have been always a very disturbed man. I didn't like his music but respected his influence until the child abuse stuff ......

Shame that people can go from so happy and talented to such a weird extreme. I'm sorry for him, his kids and his family.

SweetLorraine · 26/06/2009 00:41

Yes sleepycat. It's not just about him...it's about what he represented.

harleyd · 26/06/2009 00:41

maybe not to you bree
but it will be a huge loss to his little kids
and his family
and the gazillion fans he had

SolidGoldBrass · 26/06/2009 00:41

Qually: I do see what you mean. But I think there;s a big muddy grey area in terms of minimizing the damage done to children and young people from an inappropriate relationship (and I am not saying AT ALL that it's OK for adults to be intimate with children. It isn't, because children are not in any way capable of giving a properly informed consent, so it's an abuse of power).
WRT Michael Jackson (for instance) it's not known if he ever engaged in anything explicitly sexual with these boys ie whether there was ever any genital contact, so again it's a matter of: what is and is not appropriate or right?

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/06/2009 00:42

Ok "possibly" a loss to his children, but a loss to society and the community at large.....no way.

I would not let my DS within an asses roar of him, regardless of his "perceived" striaghtness.

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/06/2009 00:42

straightness even.

myredcardigan · 26/06/2009 00:42

But whatever you think of him it is a loss for his family esp his kids.

SomeGuy · 26/06/2009 00:43

Another Thriller video:

DD likes this one.

Pan · 26/06/2009 00:43

Bree - you are coming across as unbalanced as Jackson.

FAQinglovely · 26/06/2009 00:45

LGJ - your comment about his "straightness" made me initially think you had a problem with gay men

ilovesprouts · 26/06/2009 00:45

its the kids i feel for

Pan · 26/06/2009 00:46

Thriller dance performed on the Tube

FAQ

Not at all, but he was just the wrong side of weird as far as I was concerned.

Twinklemegan · 26/06/2009 00:47

I'm at this news - MJ was a cultural icon of his time. Did I just see someone mention Jeff Goldblum. Is he dead too?

Pan · 26/06/2009 00:47

DD is a sreet dancer - routines often rely on MJ blasts - 30 years after they were released.

FAQinglovely · 26/06/2009 00:48

how are you btw - haven't seen you around for ages (or maybe I just haven't been paying attention)

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/06/2009 00:50

Pan

I have a long way to go before I embrace that level of........... expletive deleted

FourKidsAndCounting · 26/06/2009 00:50

I can't understand why people are treating him like a hero and a 'wonderful person' I'm getting a bit pissed off as this news has been continuously rolling on BBC News channel for the past hour or so.

Why did the man take children in his bed if he just wanted affection?

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/06/2009 00:55

Gwenick.......

I am fine, not working at the moment, so spending a lot of time at school helping out.

I have discovered my vocation / pleasure in life is reading with YR1's, now clearly I can not do this as a school job, so I have ventured into other years to pad out my CV.

But I spend about 10-12 hours a week in school, and twixt getting there and getting back, it takes a lot of time. IYKWIM.

All well with you and yours ??

Pan · 26/06/2009 00:55

and Thriller dance in Tesco even

FAQinglovely · 26/06/2009 00:57

sounds like fun

Twinklemegan · 26/06/2009 00:58

I don't really care about MJ the man tbh. He was such a significant figure in the entertainment business and that transcends anything else in this context IMO. I wasn't a huge fan particularly, but this is as big as the death of Elvis isn't it?

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/06/2009 01:02

Eh no

Elvis was talented.

He could sing with just a guitar for backing.

MJ was mildly talented, but worked the graphics phenomon aextremely well.

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/06/2009 01:03

extremely well. even
