Here's one prediction www.predict09.eu/default/en-us/state_analyses.aspx#united

Cheeringly, it reckons that the BNP won't win a seat. Here's hoping.

Here's his latest: 'A caution: we still have some big places to come including Oldham, Carlisle and Wigan where there has been recounting No fat lady yet'

Thanks Kate1956, I'll try and make it.

SomeGuy · 08/06/2009 00:12

It's a three horse race for 2 seats - Tory, Green and BNP

From your numbers:

47772 7 - Tory
46866 8 - Green
46809 9 - BNP

It very much depends on the remaining areas - if they are affluent (Tory) areas then the Tories will consolidate. If they are working class (Labour) areas the BNP will outpoll the Tories possibly in absolute terms and certainly in the 3-1 ratio they need given that this is the Tories 3rd seat.

And between Greens and BNP it's a straight fight.

SomeGuy · 08/06/2009 00:12

just to clarify BNP 46809 is no seat. There are only 8 MEPs, 9th place is no seat.

Wonderstuff · 08/06/2009 00:12

Off to bed, fecking hope it gets better.

policywonk · 08/06/2009 00:14

I'm guessing Oldham, Carlisle and Wigan aren't Tory areas (well, maybe Carlisle)

Not being funny, but I voted on Thursday. WHY recount on Monday morning? Why can we have a general election result the next day and yet for this - much lower turnout - we have to wait nearly 5 days?

policywonk · 08/06/2009 00:17

epithet - I guess the thinking is that people in other countries might be affected in their voting decisions by the way results went in other countries.

Same reason they don't release exit polls in elections here until the polls have closed everywhere. Or, why US television networks now try to desist from calling elections until polls have closed in all the states (following ructions when they called Florida too early in the 2000 presidential election).

ie, we voted on Thursday but other countries were still voting over the weekend

London result within 20 mins

Ah, yes, thanks, policywonk - that makes sense. I'm just flummoxed by the recounts. I want to know the full results before I go to bed, I guess.

And I want to know, categorically, that there is no BNP presence in my constituency too.

policywonk · 08/06/2009 00:22

Yes, that would be good... where are you?

OP posts:
Spidermama · 08/06/2009 00:26

Damned computer error in the South East. I want to go to bed!

epithet · 08/06/2009 00:26

South West - usually a Tory/Libdem carve-up, but I worry that people might have been tempted by the BNP manifesto of two streetlights for all problem estates, or whatever.

policywonk · 08/06/2009 00:31

Some info about SW is dribbling through but no one is saying when it might declare

OP posts:
Quattrocento · 08/06/2009 00:32

Go to bed Policy

policywonk · 08/06/2009 00:33

I had a lie-in until 9.30 this morning

All I have to do tomorrow is a PTA meeting and then a little light toddler-herding

OP posts:
SomeGuy · 08/06/2009 00:34

I've added together the numbers in NW, looks like Green 7th, BNP 8th.

epithet · 08/06/2009 00:35

Don't think I can go to bed before declaration - which bodes ill for helping dd1's swimming group tomorrow.

I love living here, but there is an awful lot of 'arr, too much immigration here' (looking around at the one non-white face in the street).

Local schools argued until quite recently that they did not need an anti-racist policy.

policywonk · 08/06/2009 00:35

Anyway I want to know the NW result and find out whether my recommendation to vote Green, which was followed by legions of loyal followers BitOfFun and YanknCock will turn out to be a terrible Nader-style error

OP posts:
epithet · 08/06/2009 00:36

Hmmm, 35 out of 38 have declared. Labour 5th behind Greens. So Tory, UKIP, LibDem then. OK.

madlentileater · 08/06/2009 00:37

yes I want to know too, but tis getting late, may have to go to bed and listen to radio....

SomeGuy · 08/06/2009 00:38

No BNP in London

policywonk · 08/06/2009 00:40

Hurrah for London, for it is not full of YOKELS

OP posts:
SomeGuy · 08/06/2009 00:41
