Alan Johnson for Prime Minister?

LupusinaLlamasuit · 03/05/2009 09:24

As reported on Andrew Marr show this morning? From ALL the papers apparently.

He's so... competent and persuasive and seemingly decent. And hasn't been to university (which is an asset apparently)

[and yes, I SO would with Mr Housewives' Choice ]

I wouldn't know Alan Johnson if he came up and poked me in the eye.

They've certainly ramped up his PR in recent weeks.

I had to look him up to see who he was. I like to at least have heard of the Prime Minister

LupusinaLlamasuit · 03/05/2009 09:29

I really would. He's very charismatic and charming.

But obviously it's ALL about the policies.

Mrsmaidamess, have you not seen him much on the news lately briefing everyone about, um, swine flu?

Heated · 03/05/2009 09:32

who?

tiredemma · 03/05/2009 09:33

I Like him- he seems to be a 'real' labour man. Not a Tory wearing a red tie.

wasnt he a postman?

ooh yes, I have had a secret crush on him for a while now. And he was fabulous on his Mumsnet live chat here for those that missed it.

LupusinaLlamasuit · 03/05/2009 09:35

He was a postman (I have a soft spot for them, DH being an ex-postie) and an active trade unionist I believe, back in the day.

Am a bit at all those saying "who?". He is the health secretary - not sure how much of a higher political profile one would need to be considered A Name.

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/05/2009 09:35

I can't believe you've never heard of him - he has been on BBC Breakfast squillions of times!

Seems quite a 'good egg' from what I've seen - refreshingly down to earth and appears to tell it like it is.

SammyK · 03/05/2009 09:36

He is local to me (his constituency in my town) and yes I could see him as Prime Minister, he comes across as well

look here like that he has worked as union leader and has a solid 'work' ethic background.

LupusinaLlamasuit · 03/05/2009 09:37

I know [also at people not knowing who he is]. It has been a bit hard for him to be low profile in the last week!

He was the best but possibly shorted Higher Education secretary we had for a long time [got promoted VERY quickly]

SammyK · 03/05/2009 09:37

I'm sorry that post is ful of typos I really should preview

happywomble · 03/05/2009 09:38

Haven't seen the papers yet today. However Alan Johnson comes across as a very decent chap. Have no time for the rest of new labour.

LupusinaLlamasuit · 03/05/2009 09:38

shorted?! Shortest, but I meant in time not stature.

I have no actual idea how tall he is.

How tall is he? Just for the record. And my 'masterful postman' fantasies
