I know there was loads of speculation about this at the time

i think you could bet its the dad that sold the story -btw he has 7 kids not 10, this is one of those cases where the papers didn't print/omitted lots of things in order to make the story as sensational as possible.

Kimi · 26/03/2009 10:54

Was just talking about this with friends over coffee yesterday... we all said he could not be the dad.

I think all 3 of these children need to go in to care as their parents are one step off of pond scum, kids have no chance in life

drlove8 · 26/03/2009 11:00

the sad thing is they are not the only underage kids to find themselves in this situation... i know of two young girls who are in similar thing( although none have pre-pubesent "dads" for their babies).

Yup - there is no way to read this tory without thinking about the parental attitude involved, and to at least suspect that the attitude is somewhat instrumental. Which isn't nice.

Sad, sad, sad.

And again, it's one of those things that drags us, the audience, in as participants and somehow colluding in a situation that treats children as objects.

Not nice. Again am slightly p*ed off to be drawn in.

bleh · 26/03/2009 12:11

And Alfie's "father's" quote at the end: I think it's time to give him the birds and the bees talk. A bit late if he's running around having sex (allegedly) at 12/13. What a plonker.

For both sets of parents, I believe that they would be guilty as accessories (that is, condoning) to underage sex. Personally, and I know this is a bit harsh, the mother should be done for acting as her daughter's pimp.

Those poor children, Alfie, Maisie and the mother (can't remember her name).

well there's a surprise then
Last time I checked I'm sure you had to go through puberty before being able to father a child.
How awfully sad though for all the children involved. Especially Alfie.

I agree Fio, And for all his naivety, reading the articles he seemed determined the baby was his. He must be extremely confused, poor lad

edam · 26/03/2009 12:56

poor sods (girl and boy), must be so humiliating.

If Max Clifford is involved, he'll be doing his level best to do what's right by these poor children. I wouldn't trust him as a moral arbiter for adults, but he doesn't do kids over, and he would be exactly the right person to have on your side if you were in the middle of a tabloid bunfight.

noddyholder · 26/03/2009 12:57

I would think the main priority would be finding out who the dad is in case it is an adult as she is under age and obviously in a vulnerable family situation.Awful

nappyaddict · 26/03/2009 13:01

Well that's hardly surprising! He didn't look like he'd be capable of makin a baby at all.

I take back what I said about it seeming almost paedophilic because she looks quite old for her age and he looks quite young. If they started seeing eachother 2 years ago they probably didn't look like an odd couple at all. At 13 years and 11 years of age neither of them probably would have been very developed and it probably wasn't as obvious there was 1.5 - 2 years age difference between them.

DisasterArea · 26/03/2009 13:06

what a surprise
sincerely hope social services are very involved.

BatmansWilly · 26/03/2009 14:03

Poor kids. Wondering if the rest of the 'suspects' are going to be splashed around the tabloids. Don't suppose it makes such a good story when the lad looks old enough to father a child.

smallorange · 26/03/2009 14:13

I think there is going to have to be some statutory privacy protection for children in the future.

Especially as the sheer amounts of money now changing hands seem to make it worthwhile for parents to hawk the kids round the tabloids for other peoples entertainment.

Dunno what the PCC can do. Slap some wrists, probably.

orangehead · 26/03/2009 14:21

Poor Alfie. Someone said at least he can walk away now. I know what you mean not having to physically and fiancially support a child. But what is he supposed to do with those feelings. I presume he must of developed some feelings over a baby he thought was his. You cant just put those feelings aside. (Although writing this I realise many fathers do)

noddyholder · 26/03/2009 14:30

This will lead to a stream of boys selling their stories to the tabloids highest bid.It is truly awful and M Clifford should be ashamed of even touching a story like this. What message does it send to other teenagers about what is and isn't for sale

this whole story shows the adults involved have no redeeming features what so ever.

The Mirror seem to have removed this story from their website, and most of the other stories about it are from foreign sites.
