Just wondered. A little bit political...
a) how did you vote last time (if at all?)
b) how will you vote this time (if at all)?
c) what to you is the deciding issue of this election?
d) if you had to make love (not war) with one politician (past, present, senior or backbench?) who would it be?

The Tories DID support the war. They voted for it. I would never ever trust them.

But who signed the papers? Who signed the death warrants? Never forget.

paolosgirl · 12/04/2005 20:32

Also think most of the support came from his own party. Those who didn't support him were swiftly dealt with.

yes, never forget. But since both Labour and Tories were equally in favour of war - and it is such a big issue for you - why aren't you voting LibDem?

Anyone just seen the Tory election broadcast? It was all MH could do not to whisper 'Fava beans and a nice chianti' at the end. Brrrr.

Yes, I know, reasoned and mature political debate has no place at my table. Don't vote for the spooky man, ladies

paolosgirl · 12/04/2005 20:37

No - instead vote for the smirk!! Or maybe not - Gordon/Tony - who the hell are we being asked to vote for?

Unsurprisingly, another vote from Toryland here.
Usually I've either voted Tory or Green (latter for local elections). Did vote Labour in a local election, they stayed in and then made a huge cockup of the local finances, and implemented loads of poorly thought out initatives to drive out businesses from the area...

As for suitable Conservatives, he's too old for me, but I do have a soft spot for Steven Norris ever since I saw all the unused footage from the Mayoral race - wonderful sense of humour, raoming around in an open top bus asking for votes as he needed to have a job to support the 4 women in his life...

Essbee - you should speak to my dh. He is on a Govt tax advosiry panel. He can tell you more about the ins and outs of it, but he says that what they have to comment on is frightening - and the majority of people are actually worse off than 10 years ago in real terms.

Prufrock · 12/04/2005 20:46

Labour
Lib Dem - V safe conservative seat so figure I am safe to send the dual message to Blair that I think he is a wanker and that proportional representation would provide more democratic government - not that I think he'll listen of course.
Blair has let down the Labour party, Howard is Hannibal Lecter and poor old Charles Kennedy was not even in the queue when they were handing out charisma - I think all the parties, for their own good, need to get back to telling us what their stances on "issues" really are rather than making it about personalities

Alistair Campbell without a doubt

SecondhandRose · 12/04/2005 20:47

Just to try and even things up bit.

a) Tory
b)Tory
c) Anything the Daily Mail doesn't like
d) Cecil Parkinson (has to be 30 years ago though)

Have to say I am quite relieved. Thought I was the only one harbouring filthy thoughts about the King of Spin.

Shall I get him?!

just been checking how many Tories voted against the war - 3 compared to 85 Labour MPs - see here . That's 2% of Tory dissenters compared to 25% Labour dissenters, so the Tories' record is pretty poor. You can check what your MP voted on theyvoteforyou.com website.

Caligula · 12/04/2005 20:51

Essbee I'm in the same situation. Without tax credits I couldn't afford to work.

Anyone remember when unemployment was permanently about 2 million? That's because there were no tax credits!

Ah yes - and the dissenters from the Labour party are now - where? I really have heard everything - it's actually the Tories fault that Tony took us to war!

Caligula · 12/04/2005 20:55

But PG, we would have had a war with or without the labour party. If the Tories had been in power, there would have been a war in Iraq.

But there would have been no Working Tax Credits, no Child Tax Credits, no increased maternity leave, no paternity leave, no right to have a request for part time working considered seriously, and no vast increase in the overseas aid development budget.

To name but a few.

I think we would have just had all the bad things that we've had under Labour, with none of the good things.

WideWebWitch · 12/04/2005 20:55

I remember 3 million unemployed. Snafu, you do make me larf (spooky man)
