I never wanted this many children. I wanted babies.

Another 'is it bad for the environment to have more than 2 chidren from the BBC website 'magazine' (which I quite like) but what really gets me is this quote:

"I never wanted this many children. I wanted babies. They got to a certain age and I wanted another. I love newborn babies"
says Emma who has 6 children aged 10 and under

Isn't this a bit like loving kittens and ending up with 20 cats because they don't stay as kittens for long?

And how would your children feel if you said you really only wanted babies (small, nonverbal beings) and that now they can talk and have personailties you're not so keen?

Or am I being a bit harsh here?

Kitty I NEVER believe what I read in the papers any more having been misquoted myself. Journalists that do it don't realise the effect it can have on someone. I hope you're not too hurt by some of the things people have said on here, they were responding to a quote without knowing the accuracy of it.

I know someone like this. She has 4 children & doesn't have that much time for them, often saying she hates the more challenging of her children, but says she would have another one because she likes them when they're little!

I thought the quote was quite sweet actually. It's the kind of thing I say (I do quite like the children stage too- in denial about teens though).

why change your name? you have done nothing wrong

you have been misquoted in the Beeb , you have defended yourself and asked for an apology.

nothing to name change for

kittywise · 18/02/2009 17:36

Does it matter that people know who I am in RL?

Lulumama · 18/02/2009 17:51

but i think people knew before, if they were interested, due to other things you had linked to i.e your birth stories.

if you feel uncomfy, then change.

TrillianAstra · 18/02/2009 17:53

It's totally up to you if you want people to know who you are in RL (to be honest there aren't many people on this thread and most of us will forget anyway). The reason earlier posts with your MN name were deleted was (I think, it wasn't me who reported them) so that you had the choice of having your RL name and your MN name together or not.

I'm a bit that the BBC would be rubbish to you. It's the BBC! They're supposed to be trustworthy.

I see they've changed your quote to something a little less sensationalist.

I don't actually think it was a particularly bad quote to start with - I think many women have babies bacause they love babies - obviously that doesn't mean that you don't love the children they grow into.

It's up to you if you chage your name. I'm recognisable on mumsnet, so I just make sure i don't say things that could be hurtful to people I know.

Thanks

Well, I'll stay as I am and will have to make sure that I behave myself

belgo · 18/02/2009 18:24

and try not to feel upset about it, anyone who knows you will know how loved and wanted your children are.

Thanks belgo

We know you love all your children so don't worry. Glad they've changed the quote. Reminds me never to be interviewed again (actually the only time I was, she made up stuff I didn't say too)

Pixel · 20/02/2009 14:58

I say this to dh all the time when my children are being particularly trying. "I never said I wanted children, I said I wanted babies"

He knows it is a joke.

Hopefully.
