Quoting daftpunk i am saying that the link between the MMR and autism is untrue, and that the parents who fell for it probably feel abit foolish.

No, actually I DO NOT feel foolish. My children have had and are having the single vaccines and we are very lucky that they seem fine.

Another time when a username is apt.

Peachy · 09/02/2009 13:04

Yes nab- why do you think there is always an assumption no mmr means no vaccination?

I can understand wht people do choose not to have anything, but those of us opting for alternatives seem forgotten

NAB09 · 09/02/2009 13:16

There are a number of reasons that we had the singles.

I think those that are saying there is no link and their children have had the MMR and haven't been affected by it, should think themselves fortunate instead of insulting those of us who have chosen a different route for our children.

EyeballsintheSky · 09/02/2009 13:18

Sorry, I know, I don't mean to cause any offence. I will search the threads and read for myself.

daftpunk · 09/02/2009 13:19

NAB09....i'd do abit more research on single vaccines if i were you.

read this

arcticlemming · 09/02/2009 13:21

Peachy - re herd immunity - I've only been involved in immunisation programmes in developing countries, an in the situations I've worked in it is always said that there is no herd immunity effect for measles immunisation (unlike some diseases). The only way to prevent to virus circulating in a community is 100% vaccination. This may be because of different levels of individual immunity (i.e. lower than in the UK), but because the virus is so infectious it does make sense.
But as you say, no MMR does not mean no vaccine.

NAB09 · 09/02/2009 13:23

No thank you daftpunk. I get the feeling you are not trying to help.

daftpunk · 09/02/2009 13:27

fair enough...i guess you'll believe what you want to believe.

NAB09 · 09/02/2009 13:28

I am doing the best for my children. Comments like that don't help anyone, except you I guess.

NAB09 I did what was best for my children, i had them vaccinated. that not only protected them, but the wider community including pregnant women...er, that makes me stupid does it?

NAB09 · 09/02/2009 13:42

I never said you were stupid!

I have had my children vaccinated. What is your problem?

silverfrog · 09/02/2009 13:44

daftpunk, the only person calling people stupid or idiots is you.

No one has said that to vaccinate your children (whichever way you choose) is stupid.

I would love to be able to vaccinate dd2 for some illnesses. Sadly I can't, because I am not allowed that choice.

But I would never say another person is stupid because they do so (and neither has anyone else iirc)

Peachy · 09/02/2009 14:38

thank you dp but i still think having read that the risk to my family, with our history is greater from mmr.

'that they are ignoring coincidence, that they are wrong when they say their children might not have regressed were it not for the MMR. I can't shake them and their words out of my head. And nor should I. ' you know-
I have no way of knowing whether it was the mmr that caued it either, I can tink of two other possibilities, one discounted by a Paed (head injury) and anotheralso counte das crap science as related to Wakefield's woprk (csein intake- DS3 was prescribed the wrong formula when he should have ahd casein free; I will laugh in the face of anyone who says casein and asd are unrelated as I know the effect it has on me).

I'm justdoing my best to protect my kids in an atypical family.

Peachy · 09/02/2009 14:40

arctic you'r right, i'm no convinced by herd immunity either but haven't gone into it in detail as non immunisation not an option for us (basically mum lost a baby to rubella damagre so I have too many infl;uences iyswim)

2shoesformyvalentine · 09/02/2009 15:19

"daftpunk, the only person calling people stupid or idiots is you."

think if you read the thread she was called daft....surely DP is allowed to have an opinion

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 09/02/2009 15:25

Where? Sad act that I am, I've been back through the thread and I can't find anywhere daftpunk has been called daft - other than as part of his/her username!!!

silverfrog · 09/02/2009 15:33

2shoes, of course DP is allowed an opinion.

I just objected to being called (and I paraphrase) a middle class fool for questioning that ALL children shoulld be vaccinated.

And I stand by what I said - the only person who has called anyone names is daftpunk herself. No one else has called anyone and idiot or stupid.

daftpunk · 09/02/2009 18:00

silverfrog;

if you read this thread back you will see that (as usual) i say something that 10 people before me have said, yet i get jumped on?

i have not called one person on this thread an idiot or a fool....i have said that some parents may feel foolish for believing the original claims, that is not a personal attack.

NAB09 · 09/02/2009 18:34

OKay, so why should we feel foolish?

Peachy · 09/02/2009 18:36

Actually you did say probably will feel foolish.

Whereas I have yet to meet anyone who thinks they amde the wrong decision.

I have also yet to meet anyone whose single jab opting has been recorded so iw ouldn't get too huffed up about immunisation rates until we know who does opt for the swingles: out of the three non-opters I know (can't be othereds being another thing entirely) all have single jabs

2shoesformyvalentine · 09/02/2009 18:54

but surely, if you are told something and you then find out, after believing it, that it is untrue..you would feel foolish.

daftpunk · 09/02/2009 18:55

yes, i did say that peachy. (confirmed it in my last post)

why would parents feel foolish?.....because they put their trust in a doctor who turned out to be fixing data.

anyway, this discussion is years old, nothing anyone says will convince certain parents.

Peachy · 09/02/2009 18:55

No I don't think I would tbh

I think i'd feel OK that I ahd done the best I culd with the info I ahd acess to.

Is that really a foolish thing to do?

Peachy · 09/02/2009 18:57

Nope you went from probably to may- but I guess that's pedantism to an extent.

perhaps since youa re the fiont of all MMR nowledge you should pop over to the American courts they seem to be making a mistake atm with regards to this
