Cant believe there is another story like this:

news.aol.co.uk/family-dogs-maul-baby-to-death/article/2009020713191350252763

OP posts:

When DTS were about 2yo, we were in the park and the boys were toddling around. A staffishire terrier (is that what it is called) came running up and barking at the twins. They started screaming and I tried to pick them and shoo the dog away. The owner sauntered up, took the dog and did not even apologise.

My DTS did not provoke the dog and this could have ended horribly. As a consequence, the boys who are now 4yo are still terrified of dogs.

spokette · 09/02/2009 16:09

To those who say Staff dogs turn when provoked, how can a 3mo baby provoke anybody let alone a dog?

alphabetsoup · 09/02/2009 18:03

Staffylover, re your post at 12.44 - please read onChannel4- News - Tributes to dog maul death baby.mht .

Obviously I can't tell which of the two dogs was the "main protagonist" but the fact of a post mortem report which makes it clear it was TWO dogs is enough surely ? I think protagonist is the wrong term anyway when we are talking after all about how easily dogs revert to type ie a pack.

I am no more blaming the dogs than I am blaming guns for shooting teenagers or fast cars for running people over. But the humans in charge of dogs/guns/cars have to get a grip (literally) and stay in charge.

staffylover · 09/02/2009 19:49

Highlander Salesmum was writing a piece about something very tragic and you pick her up about her spelling? twot sorry twat!

expatinscotland · 09/02/2009 20:32

Dogs are vile.

Staffies especially.

staffylover · 09/02/2009 20:38

expatinscotland explain!

expatinscotland · 09/02/2009 20:42

Explain what? They stink, they get hair everywhere, their poo is vomitous, they lick shit and eat shit, oh, and have I mentioned they pong?

I can't understand why anyone would want to keep one of these vile creatures as a 'pet'.

FIL had a staffy and it was hyper as hell.

Dogs are bad enough, but hyper ones just need shooting.

SOLOveMeTenderLoveMeDo · 09/02/2009 20:46

Personaly, I think cats are vile creatures, spiteful and unpredictable. I wouldn't have one, but many do and don't find them 'vile' at all...
I don't think you can generalise and say that all dogs are vile. They aren't, but it is a personal choice as to whether or not you like something.
Common sense needs to prevail when it comes to keeping dogs and having children in the same vicinity as one another. You shouldn't trust any dog with a child. You supervise them together at all times. It's incredibly sad that these things happen to anyone, but especially a baby/child.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 09/02/2009 20:48

Ah, but the world is divided into catagories:

Cat lovers and dog lovers
Tories and Labor
Democrats and Republicans
Smokers and NonSmokers
Texans and Californians

expatinscotland · 09/02/2009 20:48

Well, good for them! I find dogs minging myself.

expatinscotland · 09/02/2009 20:50

I also have a near pathological hatred of most primates and some apes, especially macaques, and would love to see baboons and chimps exterminated from the planet entirely.

Clowns are okay, though .

BlueSapphire77 · 09/02/2009 20:55

expat lol i usually agree with you too

First time for everything.. my dog isn't vile he's a darling and i wouldn't imagine life without him, he is better than most humans tbh IMO.
Far better mannered then most men i have met

Still, no one can like everything and if for you it's dogs then i applaud you for at least being honest

WinkyWinkola · 09/02/2009 20:55

My cats aren't at all spiteful.

expatinscotland · 09/02/2009 20:57

My sister thinks her Yorkie is a person. And her toy dachshund, too.

I admit the dachshund does have a certain appeal about her - she is rather cute.

But then I think about cleaning up her poo and am glad she is with my sister.

BlueSapphire77 · 09/02/2009 21:01

Hi wannabe

I don't give the dog chocolate lol he gives the kids his fluttery eyelash thing until they do I know choc and onions are poisonous to dogs but the TINY amount he gets out of them (trust, kids don't hand out big bits of chocolate) hasn't seemed to hurt him, i do tell them re chocolate but at the end of the day IMO he is more likely to die from swallowing a butter/yogurt pot which he gets given regularly..i admit it is not the best of things to do or allow but hey
I'm not gonna lie about it lol don't do ass-covering

ronshar · 09/02/2009 21:03

It made me want to vomit as I was sitting with my 17 week old baby listening to the news.

Dog are animals and so can not be trusted. Ever.
Dogs originally bred for hunting etc should not be allowed to be kept with children.
Ever.

BlueSapphire77 · 09/02/2009 21:05

Lol expat

I am one of the school of thought that treating a dog like a person is one of the most dangerous things you can do.
I love my dog to bits but L/R is out of bounds as are bedrooms/beds.. he is a terrible scrounge though and is one habit i have never managed to break, but have trained him to take things calmly which is a happy medium i guess.
Definately cleaning up poo is a good enough reason IMO to be glad a dog belongs to someone else, mine does horse sized ones.. pah, you need a sodding carrier bag not a nappy sack as i see some owners doing, but at least they are picking up so hats off to em ..

expatinscotland · 09/02/2009 21:17

I just can't get that little baby's photo out of my mind .

My own wee man is 3 and a half months old, too.

He's been cooing and laughing and starting to suck his little toes.

sweetkitty · 09/02/2009 21:19

I know what you mean expat, the thought of that poor wee helpless baby
