Newspaper Readership Poll

Swedes · 31/01/2009 19:52

Please answer the following questions - please post once only. And do not comment so as to deter Daily Mail readers.

  1. Which paper do you mostly read Mon-Fri?

  2. Which Sunday paper do you read mostly?

Please answer with one paper. No pretending - if you feel you should answer Guardian and Observer but in reality read the Daily Mail and News of the World, please namechange and answer truthfully.

I had forgotton about the Express and not many people are owning up to the Mail even though I know lots of mumsnetters read it. Maybe the are out chav shooting.

thumbwitch · 31/01/2009 23:46

---- - pmsl TSAP!
I mean, how judgeypants of you!

Cies · 31/01/2009 23:52

I skim read Guardian online every day. I have to admit that I actually click on fewer and fewer articles. But I do receive their podcast and listen in daily. So I suppose my daily news fix does have a leftish flavour to it.

twinsetandpearls · 31/01/2009 23:52

I am sure they are able to make jokes about me weaving lentils or being a do gooding bleeding heart liberal

RachePache · 01/02/2009 09:36

Although I read the Telegraph on Saturdays I consider myself left wing (I can't ever see myself voting conservative; only ever Libdem or Labour). I like the way it's written and it counterbalances the left wing BBC reporting. Plus is the only newspaper that doesn't fall for all the government GP bashing, and seems supportive of doctors. Its Saturday supplements are better than the others, too. I find the Guardian dull dull dull.

cory · 01/02/2009 09:44

Guardian in the week. No Sunday paper.

Tn0g · 01/02/2009 09:54

The Irish Times, Monday to Saturday.

Don't bother with a Sunday paper.

Botbot · 01/02/2009 10:03

When I buy a paper in the week (not that often these days), it's the Guardian. Always get the Saturday Guardian, which lasts me all weekend, so I don't bother with a Sunday paper.

LaDiDaDi · 01/02/2009 10:06
  1. The Times

  2. The Sunday Times but I rarely buy a newspaper on a Sunday as I prefer the Saturday Times and I don't need two newspapers that size in two days, one might as well go straight to recycling if I bought both.

curlygal · 01/02/2009 10:15

1 - rarely buy a paper during the week but if I do I would get teh guardian or perhaps the scotsman if I were job hunting

2 - read the Observer EVERY sunday and hate to miss it, it takes me all week to read as read a secion a day

Sunday - main paper and mag(s)
Monday - cash
Tuesday - escape
Wednesday - review
Thursday - read all bits missed in main paper on sunday

I just throw the sport section away (wish you could do a pick n mix with sunday papers and jsut get the bits you want!)

TrillianAstra · 01/02/2009 10:36

Um, what about Saturday? The only paper I buy regularly is the Saturday Times (and they've just changed the format, very irritating).

Swedes · 01/02/2009 11:07

DP and I are perfectly suited when it comes to the Sunday paper. He gets Sport, Business and Travel sections and I get Homes, Style, Your Money & Review sections. The teens get the culture section. We all share Art & Books and the main News section. Appointments & Motoring always go directly to recycling.

The Guardian Monday to Friday but I'll have a very happy look at the Current Bun if it's ever around

The Guardian and Times on Saturday (hate the new layout)
The Observor, Sunday Times and News of the Screws on Sunday...although the News of the Screws and Sunday Times feel like the same paper to me now

These are non negotiable and I am a spoiled bitch who tantrums of they are changed/unavailable etc

BlaDeBla · 01/02/2009 12:02

If you shred The Times into bite-size peices, horses can eat it as the ink isn't poisonous. It's not a reason to read it though. I like the puzzles at the back.

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/02/2009 12:08

The Times
The Sunday Times

PortAndLemon · 01/02/2009 12:17

Tend to read stuff online now. When I do buy a print paper it's normally Independent, Times or Guardian (used to always be the Independent but they've gone downhill IMO so now I am shamelessly swayed by whichever looks most interesting that day).

cocolepew · 01/02/2009 12:22

Times online/ Daily Mirror in work

Sunday Times

muminthecity · 01/02/2009 14:54

Guardian in the week, also usually have a flick through The Metro and The London paper on the tube. Oh and The Mirror if I'm at my parents house. Nothing at the weekend as don't have time to sit and read, usually just browse The Guardian online. When I drop DD off at dance class on a Saturday, I sit in the local cafe while waiting to pick her up and will read whatever is on the table, usually The Sun or The Star

Nagapie · 01/02/2009 15:06

The Times

Use to read the Sunday Times, but DH and I just don't really have the time on Sundays to spend reading a rehash of the week's events ...

policywonk · 01/02/2009 15:09

I doubt you need me to answer really Swedes but

  1. Guardian
  2. None

I've just received my Guardian subscription vouchers and am very excited.

Desiderata · 01/02/2009 15:11
  1. The Daily Mail
  1. The Grauniad, for wiping my pert, right-wing arse on.
barbarapym · 01/02/2009 15:21

1 Guardian

  1. Observer only if didn't get Sat Guardian - lots of the stuff is often painfully similar ( same retaurants reviewed, same interviewees etc...)
Saltire · 01/02/2009 15:24
  1. The Daily Ranger Record, but only because we can't get The Scotsman
  2. The Sunday Post - again we can't get Scotland on Sunday.
atowncalledalice · 01/02/2009 16:27
  1. The Times. But I photocopy the Telegraph cryptic crossword!

  2. Telegraph.

bagsforlife · 01/02/2009 16:44
  1. The Times but read Telegraph and Guardian online.

Guardian on Sat because got fed up with Times on Sat.

  1. Observer but sometimes also Sunday Times or Telegraph.
