What do you think about celebs looking brilliant days after giving birth?

Apparently the papers are full of pics of Victoria Beckham looking amazing today. I've got to go on a radio station and spout about pressure on new mums to get back in shape etc. etc. (being a talking head is occasionally part of my day job). Happy to do that, but thought I'd ask you guys for your opinions. I was going to say something about how depressing it is that some celebs feel the need to hide away for months until they can emerge, looking like their pre-pregnancy selves. And that the rest of us, who can't afford personal trainers and dietitians, feel we've achieved something if we manage to get dressed when we are coping with a newborn, let alone looking fit for the paparazzi!

they were talking about VB on one of the breakfast programmes today and were discussing the 'tummy tuck, post caesarean' what also came out in that discussion, which I found shocking, was that some women who elect caesareans also elect to be delivered between 36 - 38 weeks because its in the last 4 weeks that a lot of the weight goes on and stretch marks either appear or get worse - so if they deliver early its easier to get back in shape !

spinelli · 29/03/2005 12:11

I don't think she cares more about her looks than her sons beacause she is skinny! that would be ridiculous! Its because she looks so groomed and wears uncomfortable clothes that i think she is vain..nothing to do with her weight??
Plus I don't think posh is a "natrual" size 8. before the spice girls she was a ggod size 12 and this I think is her natrual weight not the half starved 8 she likes to show us.

northerner · 29/03/2005 12:13

Kama - I was meaning in VB's case I don't think it's natural that she snaps back into her size 8's. She is not a natural size 8 anyway. Lots of weird diets are needed for her to maintain her figure. She has admitted to having problems with food.

So no, I wasn't implying that you were anything.

Kama Why are you making this about you? Iam not judging you! If every time you leave your house you are head to toe couture and made up to perfection then good for you. But Iam talking about posh spice not you.

piffle · 29/03/2005 12:20

With ds my 1st I gained about 1.1 stones, as I improved my eating when pg so did not put on so much and lost a lot of the flab to be honest
After he was delviered I had to be weighed to go home and weighed less than before I got pg!
But stuffing that marshmallow belly into jeans took a bit longer.
I simply do not care how long my body takes, dealing with a newborn and my other child took all my care and attention and had VB being walking her newborn the mile or so to school there and back 2 x a day as I did 2 yrs ago , and breastfeeding 8-10 feeds a day, she would find it very easy to lose the weight and still eat a mars bar from time to time.
Considering her wealth and power, I feel slightly amazed that she feels the need to project such a perfect image. And slightly saddened!
i mean she is obviously not breastfeeding as if closer is to be believed she is eating sod all and if Heat is to believed she is breastfeeding
?????? confused

spinelli · 29/03/2005 12:22

Kama Iam a size 8 and my sister is a size 26.
I find it insulting that you think being skinny is in anway as bad a being obese. When i see the things my sis goes through it really upsets me and I would never have the audacity to "moan" about being skinny.

piffle · 29/03/2005 12:23

oooh and more....anyone recall the pic of Gwyneth and Chris Martin with their dd the day she was born, the photo was perfect, they both looked tired overjoyed and so in love, I never even looked at her ankles
I was so jealous as dh looked slightly indifferent after our dd was born...

snafu · 29/03/2005 12:23

But kama, surely the point is that VB is not naturally skinny? She is not naturally a size 8 (in fact I would say she's currently more of a 6 anyway!) - if you look at photos of her from say 5 years ago she's a totally different shape.

So I would dispute the ideas that a) weight has just naturally fallen off 5 weeks after birth and b) that commenting on the fact that she obviously feels incapable of being seen in public looking less than perfect (for whatever reason) is somehow insulting to her.

orangina · 29/03/2005 12:24

slightly controversial question here..... does it MATTER if vb is or isn't b-feeding? To us that is?

suzywong · 29/03/2005 12:26

My mate said she looked skeletal

I think there is an underlying concern here that she has put all her attention on her looks, for what ever reason, and standing guard over David and not her new baby, and don't let's start on about her being at "work"

suzywong · 29/03/2005 12:28

no no it doesn't matter

It just matters that she has put herself on view for all to see and the image she is projecting is not exactly one that is realistic for new mums to emulate, and as a role model and a woman in the public eye we are debating whether or not that is the most sisterly thing t do

spinelli · 29/03/2005 12:30

I thought it was very telling the interview David gave a couple of weeks ago.
His comment on Victoria was something along the lines of "she is doing well and losing lots of weight" Like that was the most important thing??
Very sad I thought.

orangina · 29/03/2005 12:31

suzywong, not wanting to start debate AT ALL! Just querying the sort of information (conflicting or otherwise) we (general public, not informed MNetters) are being fed by celeb magazines....
As soon as we are fed this info, we are sort of being asked to form a judgement.... which frankly I can't be arsed to do. About vb.

orangina · 29/03/2005 12:33

... and sisterly? Bless you, vb doesn't give out sisterly vibes at all... would love to think she has some girly mates, but can't help thinking she is more a mans woman than a womans woman.
Dammit, I'm thinking about her and expressing opinions! This has got to stop!

crunchie · 29/03/2005 12:34

JoolsToo, most elective c-sections are done at 37 weeks. Since that is when Dr's agree that 'full term' kind of starts. Also if you are having an elective c-section you usually want to do it before there is a chance you will go into labour, again why it is done early. VB had hers early as it was THE ONLY WAY she could do it in semi-private. It is not necessarily, as has been suggested, so they don't get stretch marks. Again this is media bull*t. It really annoys me that they do this.

Sorry, kama, where did I say you were making anything about you? [think rolling eyes emoticon needed here]

She's worked damn hard to make sure she's in the public eye everywhere she goes. 'Brand Beckham', anyone? So I'm afraid I can't weep too loudly for her when people make comments based on a media perception of her. Whether that perception is actually correct or not is the irrelevant part, imo.

spinelli · 29/03/2005 13:48

if we want to comment on posh then we will kama . She puts herself in the publis eye and uses the media when it suits her.
I Really don't see why you sre taking this so personally. This thread is not about you, its I this and "I" that. enough already!!

I would hardly say we are slagging her of kama.
A lOT worse has been said about about posh in the press . Like I said before if you don't want to get involved in this disscussion then don't its as simple as that!
But please don't presume to tell other posters to "give her a break" After all we hardly have her down as a child abuser or anything, its just a light hearted exchange that posh herself is highly unlikely to ever read.

vickiyumyum · 29/03/2005 14:43

spinelli and snafu after reading this thread and all of the comments i felt that i had to say something to back you up! Kama wheteher you can see it or not you are trying to turn this thread into talking about you
could it be that you are VB or her sister as you are far too protective of saomeone that you do not know
Anyway as has already been said if you don't like the tone of the thread then don't join it, there are plenty of other threads for you to join or why not start a new one on how you feel VB is being victimised!
