Yes it's awful
Etc.
But we don't need a McCann-esque thread frenzy all saying the same thing.

the school comparison is quite good

the school isnt the building it is the pupils and staff

that is what people buy into

so people who built up mn are really the posters

and it has been a libertarian community largely

so people who have joined later in its evolution are inheriting and earlier posters are bequeathing whatever way you slice it

Sticking my beak in on the tails of a massive row... I do think this droning on about how it was all much better it your day is fantastically rude, and you shouldn't be surprised when it pisses people off.

zippitippitoes · 15/11/2008 15:27

and yeah i did flounce further down the thread but i am doing a trelkovsky thing here and coming back up the stairs to jump out of the window again

so it's changed from competitive saddening to competitively maddening.

what a fucked up thread.

blueshoes · 15/11/2008 15:33

I don't know about joining and and leaving. People dip in and out of mn for whatever reasons. It is like a tower of babel - there is no fixed membership. Some have more time to come and here and do so more regularly. Perhaps these people feel a sense of ownership whereas other posters who don't have that time or commitment are more laissez faire. Anyone is free to take a break and to come back. It is no big deal.

zippitippitoes · 15/11/2008 15:36

my point was that bitch fests are becoming what mn is

as shown earlier by the assumption that i must be on one side or the other

the point is

im not on one side or the other

it just makes me sad that there are these fucking sides

and trying to lighten things up and be a voice of reason is just bewcoming a waste of effort

and depressing

and i dont need more depression

and yes i am old i was old when i first came on mn so that aint changing

Beetroot · 15/11/2008 15:36

Mn was a brilliant place built up by many witty bright and interesting people. That is why it has become so popular because it has an amazing reputation - so I think many of us oldies can be proud of being part of the foundations of MN.

RaspberryBlower · 15/11/2008 15:39

What on earth are you lot going on about? Someone who isn't on this thread who posted on other threads in the past? I really have no idea as I'm quite new to MN. Clearly I've a lot to learn. I agreed with the op because I think there is a serious point to be argued in there, and a few people, whether they agreed with the op or not tried to have a discussion. I'm quite disturbed (and confused) by what this has degenerated into, especially considering the original subject matter.

It is a nature of conversations, raspberry. That is just what a message board is. You start with one topic and it meanders, takes on a life of its own. Feel free to bring the flow back to the original topic.

blueshoes · 15/11/2008 15:46

Was it better before? I really haven't noticed the difference. I come on mn for information and views. Sometimes the old guard can be too clapped out to answer helpfully on (yet another) thread on the same subject except to launch an attack. There is still a huge diversity of views, all the better for mn.

Yes I did try that before, but it didn't work.

blueshoes · 15/11/2008 15:59

I know, it doesn't always work. When things get heated, people ignore posts other than those that address their then concerns. The best is not to take things too seriously around here.

2shoes · 15/11/2008 15:59

why are you turning it all into oldies v newbies. can you not just accept that some people don't want the whole of mn full of threads about a awful thing.

RaspberryBlower · 15/11/2008 15:59

Well I can't be bothered with any of that dittany - I'm off!

RaspberryBlower · 15/11/2008 16:03

My first flounce!

zippitippitoes · 15/11/2008 16:08

snap raspberry i have never flounced

i take on board what people have said about l;eaving if you dont like it

normally when i report threads or posts i dont announce it on the thread either

but as i dont think this thread will get deleted thats why i put it on the thread this time

i am in a fragile place at the moment so mn is not the place for me to be

policywonk · 15/11/2008 16:20

Well bon chance zippi, if you're taking a break. I'll miss you.
