One of those news stories that makes me think 'Do I live on another planet to everyone else?' I mean, I like a bit of bargain flat-pack shelving as much as the next woman, but...

Why on earth did Ikea see fit to offer £40 sofas?...Ikea openings don't need incentives - a free cup of coffee would probably have been enough.

Would you really go to the opening of an Ikea in the first place? Its bad enough to trying to get into the one at Lakeside first thing on a Sunday morning!

The only time we go near Ikea is early (as soon as it opens), preferably in the week, and without the kids. Some people are just insane It's a shop, FGS, not the Second Coming.

i thought it was silly coz they only had one little door open as there werent expecting the volume of people that came at midnight and it was shut half an hour later..

weird people! I heard about this, this morning on the news.

I don't go near ikea on the weekend. It's nuts. Even when i go during the week, I still can't find a decent parking space! I take DS though because it's very child friendly and he likes the swedish meatballs.

hehe. madness. though i would've loved a cheap sofa. was gonna go to edmonton store soon as its fairly nearby to me (as far as the wembly one is) but think i'll just stick with wembly.

I'm not suprised what is it about sales that send normally sane people into raving lunatics that would barge and push anyone to get a bargain.

The first time we went to Lakeside on a Sunday there was a 40 minute wait to get into the store DP was like "is it Alton Towers?" no we didn't wait it's only a shop FFS and not that great IMO some stuff looks nice but some of it looks cheap and nasty.

(pm mid week - best time to visit Ikea IMO.

Ooh those barriers really annoy me gingerbear. To avoid weekends I go with DS and DD on my own and its a nightmare to get the things back to the car.

Plus, if they are lucky enough to get through the door, the world and his dog will already have their houses "ikea-ized".

In a 10 mile radius from the shop every sitting room/lounge/front room (whatever you call it) will be the same. All the kitchen accessories will be the same....it'll be like being in some wierd twilight zone!

We live near the croydon and my family only come to visit on the promise that I escort them to the bloody place. The thing is 99% of the time they come at the weekend.....that last time they came it was bank holiday. I told them they must be mad, there's no way I'd got on a B.holiday even if they were giving stuff away.

They went home sad and without a single wiff of the place.

At the risk of sounding very Daily Mail, I think this says something so sad about people these days. It's a shop, fgs. It sells sofas and tealights. Where are people's priorities if they would stab someone to get some cheap Billy bookcases?
