Not the most reliable of sources mind you

JR was 38? bit more than that i suspect but may be wrong...

Upwind · 26/07/2008 15:54

I know several people who have taken fertility drugs (e.g. clomid) as a treatment for infertility. That can increase the likelihood of twins and IMHO is more common and more plausible than IVF for convenience

nooka · 26/07/2008 19:43

Well money can buy you many things, but it can't I suspect change your basic biology, like your menstrual cycle, or luck, because whether or not an embryo implants still seems to be the luck of the draw for what I can see. It can't make you younger either. I think Upwind is more likely to be correct - a lot of people seem to think fertility treatment = IVF, so it wouldn't be a surprising confusion IMO.

mehdismummy · 26/07/2008 19:46

does it really matter

belgo · 26/07/2008 19:51

No it doesn't really matter, it's their business and I'm sure they wish it would stay their business. However the babies were concieved I imagine it would be quite hurtful to have it suggested that having boy/girl twins solely for their convenience.

I remember a new father of boy/girl twins saying to me that a few people had suggested to him how convenient it must be to have a boy and a girl at once - but from his and his wife's point of view the complications of a twin pregnancy and premature birth were far from what he would describe as being 'convenient'.

mehdismummy · 26/07/2008 19:53

sad how some people cant just be happy for others isnt it!!

ladytophamhatt · 26/07/2008 21:46

Who said I wasn't happy for them?

Also I did say we'll never know if they needed ferility treatment but IMVHO I think its sad that they may have had treatment when they didn't need it.

But no, you're right, its not any of my business.....

ButterflyMcQueen · 26/07/2008 21:51

ivf very stressful and low success rates - yes but obly tru for sub fertile couples

brangelina no fertililty issues and i SO SO SO believe this is true

i wont judge becasue if i could choose - i would

RealityGap · 27/07/2008 00:39

I wish that more celebs would come out and admit that they had IVF it would make us mear mortals that have had to go down that road more acceptable in society, even my mum uses a stage wisper and says "they are IVF" when speaking about my kids - not that it matters how the hell I concieved my kids, but it might just get the idea that not every couple can just fall pregnan,

I have PCOS and don't ovulate and if I had just £1 for everytime I was told if I just relaxed it would happen it would have more than covered our £25k bill for all the fertility treatment that we had.

anyway have gone off topic alittle but I guess what I am saying is if they are going to love and take care of the children then why should it matter how they concieved them, surely that is between them?

True Pruners, I've known people to have IVF for reasons other then infertility and it's still incredibly stressful and the outcome is never guarenteed.

spongebrainbigpants · 28/07/2008 20:55

Pruners, thank you for standing up for us IVFers - I laughed and laughed and laughed at the idea that IVF was a less stressful way of conceiving and I'm pleased that many people on here have pointed out that the success rates are still woeful. It took us 3 attempts (first 2 miscarried) to have our beautiful DS but I have many friends in the infertility world who have taken many more attempts than that (I know two women who had 18 attempts between them).

As far as I know, J Lo has denied out right that her twins were IVF - although she could be lying! I have four friends who are one of twins, all conceived naturally - it does happen!

Hulababy · 28/07/2008 21:07

How do we know she has no fertility issues?

Fertility drugs such as Clomid have an 8% risk of having multiples. However, there are other risks associted with using these drugs and I can;t imaine any credible doctor prescribing them for no reason.

I can;t imagine anyone would put themself through IVF to avoid havign to get pregnant naturally, or to ensure they have girl-boy twons.

ButterflyMcQueen · 28/07/2008 21:15

i stand corrected pruners

hulababy i would. I do have experience of fertility treatment and know how horrific it can be but i would

Hulababy · 28/07/2008 21:17

BM - really? I am happy to try the Clomid (first month at moment) but have already ruled out further intevention as thing it would be way too much stress involved.

bundle · 28/07/2008 21:21

friend went through fertility treatment to select an embryo to help one of her other children. can imagine doing that - but not just to have twins or to speed things up a bit

bundle · 28/07/2008 21:22

ooh good luck hula, hadn't realised

Hulababy · 28/07/2008 21:23

Thanks bundle Fingers crossed; got 6 months to try. Been 4 years since first started! But at least I have DD to keep me going

Gunnerbean · 29/07/2008 21:01

I didn't say I wasn't happy for them either.

I simply passed comment on them - as is my wont being as they are always in the public eye. I'm sure they'd reserve the right to do exactly the same about me if the tables were turned.

To be quite honest, it doesn't remotely bother me how many children they have, or how they come about them.

southeastastra · 29/07/2008 21:06

omg she called her baby knox!

TwoIfBySea · 29/07/2008 22:01

Wonder how far she'll go before her collection is finished? Which colour will she go for next? She has made a mockery of genuine adoptive parenting.

Angelina also isn't really giving herself time to enjoy the children she has got but then again I suppose that would be the nanny's job. Or nannys' as will be.

CoteDAzur · 29/07/2008 22:18

They would of course be better off if left in the third world orphanages Angelina got them from

TwoIfBySea · 29/07/2008 22:27

No, they would be better off adopted by families who want them for who they are and not how trendy they look.

It is disgusting the way it is almost like "this season its Africa." They are children and not a fashion statement.
