Just read the update today on the trial, witness statements for her parents and a friend. All three say she told them she had been raped by RB, and she had to stay with her parents for several months after the attack because she was so upset. Her father talks about how she told him as he was driving her somewhere, just after the event but he’d only recently found out it was anal rape. My heart breaks for that poor woman.

This evidence means the jury will have to decide this woman has lied to her best friend, her mum, dad, the police and the court. Or they believe RB. I know who I believe.

Yeah it looks damning.

However the defence will argue there is still no definitive proof of lack of consent despite the appalling nature of the sex (no witnesses). I also think the defence will look to the complainants mental health and general psychological state. There are suggestions the complainant was an alcoholic at one point, she had drank heavily during one encounter and had drank before the alleged attack. Obviously drinking would potentially limit exact remembrance of events which plays into the defence's hands. There is also the fact she engaged in meaningless sexual activity while still with a boyfriend. The defence may argue that the huge shame and the result of the utter humiliation by Brand, coupled with uncertain mental health, may have conflated extremely regretful and painful sex with rape with seeing herself as a victim as a psychological escape route. Also looking at the media stream a lot of people were telling her it was rape with the suggestion she may have been undecided in her own mind.

I just feel with this amount of evidence why was Brand not adviced to plead guilty and show remorse with a view to sentencing unless his KC has a strategy? I dont think Brand will stand as he can't say anything to make himself look better abmnd at this point it would be a bad idea from his perspective....

I do belive the woman I am just conjecturing on what the defence will look like and I dont think it is going to be pretty.

I know it’s not about the trial but I was talking to my friend (vicars wife) about the trial and she said he will still get to go to heaven as Jesus died for his sins! I’m not a Christian but surely this is not true? Why do people believe this crap if people like RB will forgiven?

Really really hope that he takes the stand. As others have said it will be his final decision not counsel's - here's hoping his arrogance prevails.. But they will surely advise against for all the reasons mentioned. It could be his downfall if he does.

Today seemed to go well from what was reported. The level of trauma reported from numerous contemporaneous / ensuing years' witnesses really strengthens Complainant 5's testimony IMO. It very much detracts from the defence's narrative of "the Dispatches doc has caused a rewriting of history by some who had consensual sex or contact with him that they ultimately regretted". The only slight negative was the ex-boyfriend who appeared to have said in his original statement that she had "given in" to the anal sex. But he subsequently reframed that to succumbed rather than active consent (my paraphrasing).

God I will be gutted if none of the charges succeed.

I assume that, as with her parents and her friend, the boyfriend was told by her at the time what had happened to her, which means it can be shown that she started to tell people about it as soon as it had happened rather than not until twenty years later or until a documentary about similar bad behaviour by him was broadcast?

I really don't know what defence can be put forward now....I wonder if RB has the opportunity to plead guilty with remorse but surely it's too late?

The only desperate defence I think RB can put forward is a rough sex argument where he alleges a conversation was held with the woman where they both agreed to 'rough sex' and she consented to that but nothing in the testimony given suggests that all.

The opening scene of Fleabag seems to have ages badly given today's testimony.....maybe the horror of today's testimony shows anal sex can't be viewed as some sort of 'natural' extension to vaginal sex and both can't be donated to at the same time?

I haven't followed closely but I have a question. There are those that say the women are out to make money etc. But I'm thinking he isn't really that wealthy surely? Is he not a former TV presenter that hasn't worked in years?

I've never taken much notice of him; he always left me cold. I was only vaguely aware of him until he and Ross pulled that despicable and intensely immature prank on Sachs. But now I am following the trial, and I've watched the first part of the Morgan interview, and the few minutes that I could bear of his "comedy". I noticed that it was relentlessly sexual, including sitting on an older man's lap in the audience and informing him that he had developed "a stiffy." 🤢

I find Brand profoundly sinister. He's a dangerous madman, imo. He's exceedingly immature, silly, childish, and those are his best points. He's dark, manipulative, and basically tickes all the boxes for the dark triad traits. He's playful in a mirthless, malevolent way. Really, really creepy.

The women's testimonies are utterly appalling. Those poor, poor things. I believe them 110 percent. The woman who experienced Brand just anally raping her with no lube and no warning....JFC, that is absolutely horrific.

He is vile and repugnant in every way and I sincerely hope that he goes down for the maximum amount of time possible.

Based on what I heard today, i cannot imagine the jury wont convict for the anal rape at least. The evidence is compelling
