If Brand testifies I wonder if the prosecution will refer to the ‘knobsticle’ part of one of his books which suggests that he has a proclivity to having sex with women who don’t want to, rather than willing participants. I wonder also if they’ll refer to his previously documented sex addiction and argue that his ‘urges’ rendered any lack of consent irrelevant to him.

Apparently when the women have been giving evidence she’s been raising her eyebrows/rolling her eyes. I think I heard this on The Times podcast. She fully supports him and presumes they are lying.

Wow. It'd be interesting to know whether anything they are saying is familiar to her.

I should imagine so, men like him never really change.

Darkershadeofpink · 22/10/2026 12:02

I would have thought his bible vehicle and indoctrinated wife would be clear to anyone watching and if anything sway the jury further from him even if they were aware. What sort of people spout the Bible at home, in the taxi there. It’s all so fabricated. He knows what he’s done. She has to cling onto some hope because otherwise has to face who she has married, who the father of her children are and what life is going to be like post trial.

Mamamia35 · 22/10/2026 12:07

I agree BrownCat. Giselle P has had a positive effect and her “shame needs to change sides” remarks have hopefully resonated with the public. Complainant 5 explained her ‘shame’. I really feel for that woman, she was only 21. I can understand why it would take decades to report. She has obviously had a lot of support and therapy.

I don’t understand how the Dispatches documentary can be continually cited and the jury have to pretend it doesn’t exist. There is evidence of recurring behaviour. That’s at least 10 women. Why aren’t the jury allowed to know the detail of the programme? It showed his character.

As an aside and if it’s not a positive outcome for the victims, I have enjoyed the fact they’ve made digs that will bruise his ego… he wasn’t well endowed, it was over in a few minutes. I hope these specifics are deliberate.

There was interesting commentary on the slew of podcasts that have sprung up around the trial on The Rest is Entertainment this week. They said that the Times absolutely BBC ones are hosted by experienced court reporters and have a team of lawyers who make sure that the content stays the right side of the line so they don't risk ruining the trial, but that influencers and other online commentary, such as by Brand himself, have no such guard rails. It's surprising the judge hasn't stepped in but maybe they have no control about what he says on his social media?

I find this interesting too. Why would want to risk contempt of court? I'm surprised the judge hasn't put a gagging order on him.

ItalianChips · 22/10/2026 11:57

I should imagine so, men like him never really change.

I misread that as "men don't like him" and was thinking about the men on the jury. But I think that does go against him as I don't think men do like him.

SwedishEdith · 22/10/2026 12:49

The complainant who had the boyfriend, I wondered what he'd think listening to her testimony. Presumably, he was still fond of her when she told him but to then hear that's what happened to her would be really disturbing.

eastegg · 22/10/2026 08:17

Unless the complainants have been absolutely destroyed, and it’s not coming across to me that they have, he’ll pretty much have to give evidence. It will be interesting to see how he does with all his long words then.

I don't expect the judge will entertain such responses.

Look up YouTube Sunday Service with the Brands. Completely bizarre.

I saw some of the one this week. How any one could watch it and not think he’s utterly deranged is beyond me. I felt sorry for his cat. Get that cat on the stand she knows it all.

@Mamamia35
Re Laura
I am afraid that if you watched her youtube video recorded 4 days ago, you would see that she remains resolute in her loyalty and belief in her husband.
She very clearly states in the youtube video that when people she knows personally express sympathy towards her about how difficult this trial must be for her, she corrects them and tells them that actually she is grateful for this court process because it is bringing her closer to grace, truth, the power of God and that she thanks the court process for this. She says that she and RB are reading bible verses in the taxi on the way to court. She talks for a few minutes about how the media who are reporting on this trial are evil, that they are dark forces who must be ignored. This was filmed 4 days ago after already hearing so much in court. Additionally, the video sees her laughing frequently with RB, smiling at him regularly, sharing jokes with him, complimenting him, telling him he's right when he speaks. It shows her telling RB his court outfits over the past week have made him look "wonderful" and that she's received compliments about how "smart" the two of them look in their outfits for court.
This is not a distressed woman, nor a woman who is finding the details from the victims distressing. This is not a woman who is second guessing her husband.
There is a moment where RB laughs and says in a joking voice "I've had a lot of things said about me in the past week hahaha" And Laura replies instantly "Yes!!" and laughs along with him.
Meanwhile we see him tell her she is wrong when she corrected him about a day of the week; he says "Sunday" she corrects him and says "Monday" he jumps on that and literally tells her "I didn't just say Sunday, you're wrong" when he HAD just said Sunday and she was RIGHT. He tells her she's got it wrong. She instantly admits she's wrong and apologises "sorry" to him immediately. But I watched it. She wasn't wrong. What she said was right. But he told her she said something wrong and she accepted it and apologised. We see him making a crude double entendre joke at her about her liking 'beef fingers' and doesn't let it drop. He makes her tell viewers that her beloved cat is taken from her ex-boyfriend. He makes a big deal about her pyjama top being low cut and revealing and tells her he likes view (of her breasts) and adopts some sort of fake comedy sleaze voice for this and her reply to this is "Oh you're so sweet". Like he's being a sleazeball to her right on camera, pointing out to viewers that her PJ top is slipping and revealing and that he likes it, and she responds by telling him he's sweet? I think she means he's sweet to let her know her top is exposing her, because she then re-adjusts it. But Jesus, she clearly believes he is sweet. We see him get highly irritated and cross all of a sudden when he realises he's rambling on about something he already rambled on about on last week's video, and berated her for not telling him he's repeating himself because it makes him look like he's senile and challenges her about why didn't she tell him he'd already said this last week.
She agrees with
Every
Thing
He
Says
Every single word. The entire video is of her saying to him:
"Mmmm" whilst nodding in agreement.
"You're right" whilst nodding in agreement.
"Mmmm hmmm" whilst nodding.
"Yesssss" whilst gazing at him.
Literally to everything he says.

Some people feel we shouldn't be watching the video because our views mean he's earning money from it. But to me it's worth watching for the amount it reveals about them both.
It's called Sunday Service with Laura & Russell if you're interested, 18th October.

Just read the other thread and I can see that lots of people still don't realise that the freeze response is a normal and involuntary response to a dangerous situation.

It's one of the oldest in-built responses and can be seen in many animals.

This article contains a good explanation and links to videos of the freeze response the the wild - https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/alive-and-aware/202610/predator-prey-and-the-fear-system-in-the-wild

Not fighting doesn't mean you consented.

Predator, Prey, and the Fear System in the Wild

Natural mechanisms of recovery from trauma are evident in wild video examples and may inform therapeutic work.

I don't expect the judge will entertain such responses.

I don’t think he’ll take the stand, he’s lawyer has probably told him not to.
think it’s wrong that the victims get torn to shreds yet he can choose to not be questioned at all in court by the prosecution.

thebrowncatisback · 22/10/2026 13:53

Im not a Christian but i applaud their values and invoking the bible and christianity is offensive

You don’t get out of it that easily though. Adverse inferences. The jury would be legally entitled to hold it against him, and, in my view, would. Plus he will want to.

It’s true: advising a defendant whether to give evidence is one of the most important strategic decisions a defence barrister makes with their client.

RB’s defence counsel may:

Explain the advantages of giving evidence (for example, allowing the defendant to deny allegations directly or explain suspicious circumstances)

explain the disadvantages (for example, exposure to cross-examination, prior inconsistencies being explored, or a poor impression being made under questioning.

make a clear professional recommendation based on the evidence and the client's circumstances; and

discuss how the jury might react to either choice.

However, it’s ultimately RB’s decision - not his barrister’s. A barrister cannot compel a client to testify or to remain silent.

SpanishFly · 22/10/2026 14:34

@CoconutSwirl wow, that is terrifying.
I wonder what the Gallachers think of all this.
I know that Kirsty preciously supported him, but this must set off alarm bells.

I can just imagine him wearing some type of velvet scarf, shirt unbuttoned to his belly, pontificating fancy words, whilst rolling his Rs.

@CoconutSwirl I did watch it and I think she’s brainwashed. He’s a bully. She’s so meek. Commenting on her top as he sits with his bare chest.

I don’t think he’ll be able to resist taking the stand. And hopefully it will be his downfall.
