Please never serve on a jury. If you really believe that no-one brought to trial is ever innocent, how do you account for all the known miscarriages of justice?

Yes - they both should have been cancelled for good then

how could they not think it would distress Andrew Sachs…says so much about brand and how out of reality he is

Let's no forget Jonathan Ross was in his mid-20s when he got together with the 16-year-old Jane Goldman that he's now married to.

Yes it is. Its just always reported and acted upon. Where as rape and rape trials aren't.

No, it is not always reported and "acted" upon.

And been married to for 38 years. What's your point?

Ive never looked in to it because my husnand simularly thought i was blaspheming even thinking it

It does seem if people like the perpetrator (or alleged) they don’t get so outraged. Look at people taking their kids to the Michael Jackson film.

Nursingcare · 14/10/2026 23:10

you are telling everyone to stop having their opinions and reserve judgement because we have to wait for what the court says

we are trying to discuss what we think now whilst you guys saying “no you cant possibly say” over and over again

that isn't a discussion, its censorship of others

You don't seem to know the difference between 'censorship' and 'expressing an opinion'.

Or, it's expressing an opinion when you agree with it, and censorship when you don't.

SevenYellowHammers · 15/10/2026 09:37

Confession: I liked Brand in his heyday. He had a working class accent and spouted about philosophy and critical theory and I thought that was cool.

I did tire of him, obviously.

He is undoubtedly a total sleaze but on the news his flatmate said he boasted he wanted to sleep with 5000 women and that he could be charming to get his own way and then be creepy and cruel.

I mean totally yuk but not crimes in themselves.

Can you imagine if it were? All the apologies of men we hear about on here banged up. Put like that there’s a certain appeal.

But unless actual abuse is proven I don’t think Mr Brand is going to be locked up. We will see.

Did he actually rape anyone? or was it cases of the women having sex with a known sex - obsessed celebrity, where she inevitably ended up finding the sex a bit weirder than she was used to. Afterwards she says

‘I didn’t enjoy that as much as I thought I would’ I’m going to squeeze what I can out of this guy because he’s rich and famous.
There is whole world of difference between that and rape.

Have you read the accounts described in yesterday’s opening statements? They are very graphic and deeply upsetting, but I think may change your view on this.

Beachtastic · 15/10/2026 09:55

He has ADHD and bipolar, doesn't he? I think that's what has made him so appealing, because his manic refusal of boundaries made him come out with some vivid reactions on live TV.

But that extreme lack of inhibition can also be dangerous. I don't envy anyone the job of unpicking the clusterfuck of mental illness, self-medication and hypersexuality.

I've always found the women's personal accounts very disturbing to read, especially the little details that convey just how sinister and menacing it was (e.g. drooling saliva into her mouth) and the consistency of their experience (e.g. his eyes going black).

That's exactly why there is a trial ongoing - at the moment it is the prosecution's word against Brand's - all we have seen are reports of their allegations and reports of Brand's denials - no one can make a decision based on allegations and denials alone, no matter how disliked the alleged perpetrator might be and how much the allegations might seem to be in character.

I find RB repulsive and always have. But you can bet that his defence is that being repulsive and a sex addict doesn't mean you're guilty. He's relying on his misogynistic persona as his defence. All he has to do is create some doubt in the jurors minds and he'll get off. It worries me that there are 8 men and 4 women on the jury. The fact that Laura is sticking by him also goes massively in his favour whether she privately believes him or not.

I'm sure his defence team will have advised him to do that slow walk, head held high into court hand in hand with his wife

ShiftingSand · 15/10/2026 10:01

Why does his wife stand by him? (Sorry if this has been asked already)

ShiftingSand · 15/10/2026 10:01

Because she loves him, and at the moment he has not been found guilty of anything. He has denied the allegations and his wife believes him, which is not unnatural unless a wife has concrete evidence to disprove the denials.

Cos she can't publicly admit (or admit to herself) that she's got dreadful judgment. So she's doubling down with the "he can't possibly have done any of this". She probably believes that too. They have 3 children and (had) a calm zen lifestyle.
But she'll feel differently when all the evidence comes out, I'd hope.

This thread just gets worse, especially naming others who’ve never been either charged or found guilty of any similar behaviour, why do certain MN posters believe they’re entitled to comment in this way?

Now we have the inevitable ‘why is his wife standing by him? Unless you’re his wife, why assume you have any right to comment on this situation at all, especially when there’s a family with young children involved too, perhaps stop and think before you post?

BillieWiper · 15/10/2026 10:56

Nursingcare · 14/10/2026 22:47

It could be a perversion

Gawd yeah. I just remember lots of stories about him wanting women to wash all the time. Maybe it's like oh, I can be disgusting and dirty but you have to be clean? Either way he is horrendous.

He did this really unfunny and morally appalling show where he bribed this homeless man with drugs to film with him and do humiliating things like get in the bath with him and go to the ideal home show. Brand always seemed to have this really naive pathetic notion about class A drugs. He never hit anywhere near rock bottom and he was filming and encouraging this poor guy. Then suddenly he's 'clean' and onto another obsession.
The guy died not long after.

Its an online forum where people are entitled to their opinions and discussions, i dont see how asked "why does wife stand by him" is not appropriate, its just a discussion point.

Im sure shes shes read far worse sadly.

JasmineMac · 14/10/2026 21:38

Quite.

There was a dreadful case here in Scotland fairly recently, whereupon an ex first minister stood trial on charges involving 9 women. He was found not guilty of all 12 charges. Many consider the toll of the trial to have contributed to his death.

The most awful was not proven. Not "not guilty". His death was nothing to do with it.

SuzieKew · 15/10/2026 11:56

There's so many 'apparently' and 'I've heard' posts on here, it does seem a bit of a witch hunt.
Just because someone has uncombed hair doesn't make them scummy / smelly, it's just his brand (pun intended). A lot of you are really coming across as snobs basing your opinions of him on how he looks.
I've always liked him and will be sad to have to change that if he's found guilty.

He wrote about that in his first book. Grim reading and explains a lot about his attitude to women.
