The Restore Britain March seems to have gone pretty well today from what I can glean online.

It could be a faulty algorithm, but the trouble the PM seemed to think would happen doesn’t seem to have materialised. I’ve seen clips from the march where a diverse mix of people have marched, not just football hooligan types.

Didn’t hear anything about Rupert Lowe accepting a £5 million donation, tell me more…

Farage did

If it was a racist march I very much doubt they would have had black people speaking there 😂

Are you saying black people can't be racist towards, for example, Muslim people?

SpryTaupeTurtle · 17/05/2026 12:41

Rupert Lowe has an estimated net worth of 25-30 million. He can clearly afford to give his MP salary to charity. Others can't. The SNP MP group have been giving away their yearly pay rise since 2015.

Yes, it's not unheard of for populists like Lowe to pretend that they're serving "the people". Far from it! Anyone who thinks a multi millionaire with a dodgy interest in cryptocurrency giving away what to him is pocket change (and making sure we all know about it) is being altruistic needs their head read.

That would be Nigel Farage. Lowe is a multi millionaire with enormous wealth.

MrsSlocombesCat · 17/05/2026 12:48

Sounds like people want Starmer to be able to predict the future now 😂

What party would you like in Government?

I like Kemi Badenoch. The only thing I’ve heard her say so far that I haven’t agreed with was that doctors shouldn’t be allowed to strike. I think they absolutely should be allowed to strike. I’m sure there will be things I don’t agree with, I haven’t listened to all her policies, but I like that she isn’t scared.

So you would like a return to a Conservative Government.

What's your opinion on Conservative MPs who deflect to Reform and how can Badenoch stop it?

No I’m saying that if everyone on this march was as racist as people on this thread are trying to make out surely a black person speaking on the stage would have been totally unacceptable to them.

JassyRadlett · 17/05/2026 12:54

ThatPeachQuail · 17/05/2026 12:35

Yes.

What's your point?

You think these people are Christian nationalists?

They're not even Christian let alone Christian Nationalists.

I've told you what the imagery is about.

Even if you accept your assertion (big if), the idea that the invoking the Knights Templar is not "Christians in any way, shape or form or claiming to be" is fanciful.

Christianity and Christian supremacy was quite a big element of the Knights Templar. And these marchers are clearly aiming to align themselves with that version of Christianity.

You can argue all day long that it's not true Christianity, that they've misunderstood it, etc, but when you've got people showing up with Christian iconography on their placards, wearing Bible verses printed on their T-shirts, carrying banners that read "Jesus is the way, the truth and the life", chanting "Christ is King" and actively aligning themselves with the most famous Christian crusaders in history, it requires quite a lot of mental gymnastics to try to claim they're not claiming to be Christians.

Anti-Muslim sentiments and ant-Semitism were on display as well

What's the name of the person? Asking so I can then see what they said and ehat has been said about his/her reception.

SpryTaupeTurtle · 17/05/2026 12:56

Restore Britain are the people who want to cut all benefits for foreign nationals and would deport foreign nationals who claim benefits even if they have indefinite leave to remain?

I personally think there is far too much tip toeing around the subject of whether people like Lowe or Farage and the like are racists. In my view they are

Actually you said "if it was a racist march" why were there black speakers (plural). Personally, unlike you, I don't doubt that it was a racist march, not least for the reasons I gave and you ignored, so why would non- or anti-racists attend?

Who were the black speakers?

Anyone can be racist to anyone.

A huge amount of Black British/Caribbean descent people in the UK are racist towards Black British/African people.

ForWittyTealOP · 17/05/2026 12:39

Every time eh?

Who do you think constitutes the government and what do you think the role of backbenchers actually is?

Well in Labours case I think the back benches are a load of extreme left Corbonites, but I’m sure you wouldn’t agree. What do I think they do? I think they block their government from implementing the policies that their constituents want. What do I think they’re meant to do? Well they are MPs, so I would assume serve their constituents and scrutinise the government.

They’re chanting it because they’re pissed off. They would chant the same to any politician that looked as though they were running the country into the ground. You’ve only got to look at the local elections to see that people are protest voting. I don’t think any of them REALLY want Farage to be PM. They are voting for less word salad and more common sense.

How is the country being run into the ground? The economy is okay, there is no recession currently. We have new renters rights, less immigration, reduced NHS waiting lists, wages rising, shall I go on?

Marieb19 · 17/05/2026 12:58

Starmer never spoke out against the left wing terrorist supporters chanting antisemitic hate week in week out. When a right wing march is planned, he condemns it out of hand as racist thugs rather than normal people who are sick if his Government and what it is doing to the country.

I’ve told you I like Kemi Badenoch. I think she straddles current hot potato topics really well whilst still talking common sense. I assume she knows what a woman is. That’s always an excellent start.

It wasn't called the Restore Britain March.

You are correct, Restore is Lowe's new party. The march was called Unite the Kingdom and was organised by Steven Yaxely Lennon, stage name Tommy Robinson.

It was very confused tbh. People draped in the Israeli flag in the same march as anti-Semitic ZOG conspiracy theorists.

The ZOG nutters were quite a nice unifying force between the two main marches. Not sure I'd choose that as a means to unite the country, mind....

There were Islamophobic flyers distributed yesterday at that march but you are trying to say the people who attended aren't racist because a Black person spoke to the crowd

The Knights Templar were Catholics, supported by the Papacy, though their downfall was sealed by Pope Clement V.

They were wealthy and ruthless mercenaries for two centuries.

Yup. The MPs are supposed to represent the electorate who elected them.

The electorate in the UK do not vote for the PM. You know this.

Oh and you didn't answer my question regarding deflection of MPs to Reform.
