possible supply problems in the UK

where I live, in Portugal, since last night people have been queuing for petrol/diesel.

Diesel has now run out in most petrol stations in my town - some are closed, and they are still queuing (at 6pm) for petrol.

Me and Dh "panic" bought last night. We have enough for a week. The truck drivers are striking to force the gov to cut taxes on fuel, and of course, the knock on effect is that we all rush out and buy.

Interesting phenomenon, don't know what will happen.

My tank is nearly empty and I haven;t had a chance to go out and get any. DH said it was busy earlier and some pumps had run out of diesel (we both have diesel cars).

I remember the panic buying from a few years back and I really can;t be bothered.

I will try and get some tomorrow when I go to work, for us getting to / from work is the only issue, otehrwise we can walk or bike.

Already using the car less. Will just make sure there is enough for emergency trips to the hospital and we can always walk.

Pumps 1-6 had no unleaded where i went earlier. There was queue.

I had to fill up today because the tank was almost empty.

And I was shocked at how much it cost! I don't use the car much so don't have to fill up that often, and have been used to it costing around £48-£50+ to fill up. Today it was just a few pennies short of £60!

we have to put less petrol in so we can spend mpney on food (you know, to live) DP will need to travel a lot in next few weeks. if the petrol "disappears" he can't so he can't work so he doesn't get paid, so we don't eat!

magistrates and police and nurses etc had letters taking them to the front of the queues last time iirc

We have enough to do us - filled at the weekend (when car said it had 26 miles left) cost £70 but that'll do us for a good month. (are very fortunate dh cycles to work)

dh is in Spain atm - most petrol stations are closed due to lack of fuel... He has to fill his hire car up before returning it at the airport or will face a fine . Thankfully he has a company credit card with which to pay it.

I got to jump the queue last time - I was working in a food testing lab and we were considered important to the smooth running of the country. I had a letter from the home office and everything [important]

This really ticks me off. Once again we are held to ransom by UNITE, who should really name themselves UNTIE as that is what they are doing.

If people panic buy then there will be problems, if people continue their normal routine then nothing will happen. I put just over 1/2 tank in every Monday or Tuesday (used to be more but that is how much my budget buys me now!)

Who is for a bet that the prices will jump again? I want unleaded to reach diesel prices because then there will be a flurry of protest. Since the Grangemouth fiasco the price has just gone up every 3 days or so. Probably since the speculators realised how much money was to be had.

Last time it was queuing behind people with a car and seven petrol jerrycan thingies all carefully being filled up....I bet they're still putting in the lawnmower years later.

I filled up yesterday, because I had no petrol left. Colleague came in at lunchtime today and said she stopped at Sainsbury to fill up and it was manic, wanted to know wtf was going on.
And my fill up cost me just over £70 , ok so I was basically dry but £70. arggh.

I had to take my id card last time (nurse)

If it gets bad I will lend all of you my card - for a fee (joking ok, )

We did fill the tank last night but in our defence, we never ever ever use the car except the very rare times we go away, and we are off to stay in a caravan in Norfolk next week, so buggered if I was going to get stranded with an empty tank. We would have had to fill up anyway in the next few days before we go.

People are actually panicking then? I got petrol today, no queue, no panick, no fuss. Took 5 mins.

Went to fill up on the way home from work. no queue. Didn't realise there was panic buyng until further on down the road the radio news came on. So anyway £35 filled up three quaters of my crap little car. will keep me going a week or so.
