Epping Migrant Hotel. Proof that protest does work?

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 20/08/2025 07:25

The high court ruled that illegal migrants must be moved from the Bell Hotel in Epping as it's been deemed unsafe.

Other councils are now intending to follow suit.

A victory for those protesters, and proof that taking to the street can be effective.

A group of police in high-vis vests stand outside a sign for The Bell Hotel in Epping.

Councils consider legal action over asylum hotels

Nigel Farage says Reform UK-controlled councils will do everything in their power to close the hotels.

Migrants want to be in London, where they’re told the streets are paved with gold and they’ll be given a really nice flat with a view of the Thames.

People traffickers rely on us, the taxpayer, to fulfill the promises they get paid for.

Migrants are pretty horrified by the time they get a flat that’s only good enough for a local that pays their bills and don’t get a free telly.

You're confusing migrants with Dick Whittington.

The government needs to build hostels for the migrants in areas/ streets where the median income is solidly six figures.

And there has to be discussion as to the continued viability of groups of men with nothing to do with no ties to a place being foisted upon populations without consultation.

Men with nothing to do , grouped together are too often a magnet for shithousery. Homegrown or not.

But the dumping of failed men via migrant, drug or drunkard hostels in areas where the majority live humbly has to stop.

Too often, the same people finger pointed at as intolerant are the same type who for the last eighty years have been at the coalface of social experiment in this country.

And are usually the same class of people who practice " multiculturalism" outside of " enjoying the food" the most due to socio economic proximity which they have little immediate resource to manoeuvre their way out of if they wanted to.

I see your points. One wonders if processing had such backlogs if these hotels were in areas where decision makers live.

Tbh one of the solutions would also be to use smaller properties and spread more. As another pp said, large number of men with nothing to do is never good...

I live close by. There are England and GB flags all the way along the high street, and have been for a couple of weeks. It's a very long road, which I drive along most days. It's actually quite intimidating. I know they're not celebrating anything. I know what the message is: this is our country, you need to leave if you're not from here. I'm not white, my kids aren't white. Their dad is an 'immigrant'. I feel a lot less safe. Yes, it's a victory for a certain group but not one that makes me feel safer.

This. I'm sorry for what this country has become in certain areas.

ArthurBloom · 20/08/2025 08:53

Nobody is saying white people don't do this, they are saying asylum seekers and immigrants commit these crimes at an inordinate rate.
There isn't an easy solution to stop natives from doing it, there is for migrants and asylum seekers. Such a reductive silly response you have.

LupaMoonhowl · 20/08/2025 08:49

House them with all the virtue signalling luvvies like SallyRooney.

I don't think Ireland will accept our asylum seekers.

LupaMoonhowl · 20/08/2025 08:55

Entering the country with no documents should be deemed criminal offence and they should be then never entitled to claim ‘asylum’. Why do we have to present passports at UK airports when the gvt will let anyone in?

Bumblebee72 · 20/08/2025 08:56

Good to see Reform are going to utilise this in their councils. It will enable to demonstrate making a difference to the people in their areas which will help in the build up to the next election.

Are all the people in this hotel men? I have seen no evidence of that.

About 140 men according to this.

Overwhelmedandunderfed · 20/08/2025 08:58

I wouldn’t say it worked. The protest surely was to say they weren’t happy about migrants in general being housed, all they’ve done is move to a different location.

You forgot the free goat. Or perhaps, given the Dick Whittington theme, a free cat in this case.

Yes, that's right, asylum seekers just fly in at airports and "the government" let them in. 🤪

One wonders why any bother with a treacherous sea crossing, really.

The vast majority of those are legal migrants who have come here specially because they are highly skilled. They are not "being housed" at a cost to the taxpayer, they are paying for rent and getting mortgages. Many genuine asylum seekers will also be educated and skilled as well.

@spoonbillstretford if they are highly educated and/or skilled, there are legitimate (and cheaper) methods of entering the uk.

Lots of categories, take your pick.

Absolutely Rubbish. You into any housing Department in the country! Explain the FACT 50% of social housing is given to first generation migrants? You look up the stats see the huge amount of universal claimants who are Asians, yes disproportionate to white British per capita. Same with Afghans sexually assaulting women. Look at the facts and figures per capita?

Because it's easy to say that and not so easy to do it. As successive governments have found.

We'll see what happens, but we may end up with a solutions that people like even less than what we have at present.

Indeed 👍

I m British, foreign-born, first generation migrant.

Even with my best assimilating intentions, I don’t and will never exactly live like a British-born person would: language, food, recipes, traditions, education, my perspective on some things is very different due to not being from here.

So, I fail to see your point.

Exactly if you’re highly skilled you can go anywhere. This narrative that’s they have PhDs and are highly skilled engineers is just a big fact lie. They’re uneducated and here to milk the system to give them and their families a better life (at the expense of our own people). Would this country be better off without them? I think so we are very over crowded. Have well educated and skilled migrants over but not this lot.

So how would you stop "this lot" from coming here?

This seems to be the unanswerable question.

You think this is ok? The British paying for a subsidised housing to huge amounts of foreign born people whilst our own are in hostels with families for year?

Sorry, I think you have misunderstood. Or maybe I am misunderstanding you? I am not sure!

Anyway, my point is that pp was posting inaccurate information spread by Philp that is being used to whip up hate towards migrants. I was posting the fact check on that.

Get out the ECHR
Stop the hotels, build prisons until their claim is heard
Stop benefits to non British who haven’t paid into the system
Have our Navy patrolling the water
Bring back the Rwanda scheme which I think Denmark or other country is now using.

Did you read the article?

Census data shows 48% of lead tenants in London social housing are foreign-born. More than two-thirds of those lead tenants born outside the UK hold a British passport.

Also, it is not surprising that in London 48% of people in social housing were born overseas. It reflects the general make up of the London population.
