Not sure either but I do wish the Democrats would take this as a sign to massively move up whatever plans they may have had to find their next Presidential candidate. They need to find a big hitter who can take on whatever is left standing in the White House at the end of this term. No shade to Harris, who I thought did as well as could have been hoped with a last minute campaign, but it'll need to be a man to stand any chance too given the sexism she faced.

Vance is scary but like Musk, he has a likability problem. The MAGA crew will fight to the death, bizarrely and irrationally, to defend Trump. People don't have that for Vance. Unless he swerves very quickly in the 'let's not even bother with any more elections' direction, then he could have a problem if the Democrats find anyone decent to stand. Aware it's a big if though.

If they are not already, they should be. They should be scanning America for a worthy candidate to wipe all visions of Trump and Vance out of mind.

Unlike British politics, we do not hear a lot from the Democrats. They do not defend themselves from the accusations, which could indicate they are true, or do we not get that in UK TV?

The Dems are currently in disarray and don’t know which way to turn - a function of not having a shadow opposition I get. They are rudderless so individuals are just ploughing their own furrow in the absence of actual joined up policy.

Will they get it together ahead of the midterms, who knows. The one consolation is that at this stage of their respective election cycles no one was considering Clinton or Obama, so a viable candidate may yet appear.

Trump has never faught in any war. Bone spurs.

I know. That is why I did not consider Carter as one of his business men's ilk when I compared Trump to previous presidents, brought up as future president all day every day.

They have to get their act together before Musk creates his own political party.

I dread the Muslim Council of Britain creating another party in UK. We should have some warning, though, if we see a lot of muslim MPs and others in high office resigning.

As I pointed out, nor was Reagan...

I don't know a lot about Jimmy Carter except that he had a peanut company in Africa and that he fought in the Korean War

Jimmy Carter's peanut farm was in Georgia, USA.Confused Famously so.

And Wikipedia tells me his military service was in the US Navy as a submariner then in the Atomic Energy Commission within the US, so I'm not sure where "he fought in the Korean War" comes from.

Have you confused Carter with someone else?

Heh, if I were the Dems I would be keeping my head down right now.

Donald Trump has been urged to nationalise Elon Musk's SpaceX after the pair had a huge fallout last night.
The pair had been lobbing verbal insults at each other on their respective social media platforms, Trump's Truth Social and Musk's X.

Things culminated when former Trump advisor Steve Bannon called on the President to seize control of SpaceX as well as demanding the Republican to deport Musk.
In response, Musk threatened he would start "decommissioning" his company's Dragon spacecraft in response, something which is is vital for ferrying Nasa astronauts to and from the International Space Station.

Good point! I do hope they're starting the search for their candidate on the quiet though.

Let me get this right: the great capitalist champion and best ever BUSINESSMAN Trump is being told to nationalise a private firm? What a pinko commie idea. Interesting how it becomes acceptable when suggested by one of their side.

@llizzie Vance was elected, not appointed. He ran on the Republican ticket Trump/Vance. He would take over in the case of death or (real) disability, but would not take over the presidency in the case of election interference because he was elected with Trump and any problem with the outcome would also necessarily effect him. Trump went to the University of Pennsylvania, which is a very fancy private university and part of the Ivy League. He does not have the common touch at all; he's a chaos merchant and a shit-disturber.

llizzie · 06/06/2025 22:28

I wonder if this row is a diversion. Trump has done nothing else this week, except a telephone conversation with President Ji.

He may have 'stalled' and they have cooked up this row between them because Trump doesn't know his next move. Perhaps the war in Ukraine and the Putin's loss is making him withdraw a bit. He wanted success, has had success, but now is looking failure in the face and he doesn't know which way to turn.

No one else in the administration is saying or doing anything. I suspect it will all be over bar the shouting, unless Trump nationalises Space X (Or Musk changes the name to Space Z.

Now that would be interesting.

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2025 22:37

No, this all kicked off with Trump's Beautiful Big Spending Bill which passed through the House of Representatives on May 22nd with a majority vote of 1. Trump is now working hard to get it passed through the Senate. Musk is very much against this bill.

Musk admitted that he knew Trump was a paedophile and happily allowed him round his children, including his daughter. He also admitted he knew that the tariffs were going to be a disaster and would cause a recession, yet kept quiet, presumably as he was getting something in return. I reckon he comes across a lot worse than Trump here, and that's some achievement!

It's also going to tricky to row back from and be best pals again, when he's called for his impeachment, as well as calling him a pervert. I can't imagine why he'd have done that unless it was a temper tantrum and he was so busy trying to attack him that he didn't really consider how it made him look. I can't see why he would have done it on purpose because Trump asked, unless maybe Trump has some extremely good dirt on him he might spill...

knitnerd90 · 06/06/2025 23:12

Trump isn’t self-taught. He learned from his father, who gave him his startup funds. And he has an Ivy League degree, Penn, though he transferred in from Fordham. He’s also declared corporate bankruptcy 4 times.

Jimmy Carter grew up on a peanut farm (not a wealthy one) in South Georgia before attending Annapolis. After his military service he returned to run the family farm and later entered politics. He was famously modest and although he sold his farm when he became president, he returned to Plains and lived in the same home for the rest of his life.

rumblegrumble · 06/06/2025 23:16

And now he's calling for a new political party:

"The people have spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle!

And exactly 80% of people agree 😂

This is fate.

...

“America Party” has a nice ring to it.

The party that actually represents America!"

Wait, what?!? Where is this Trump being a paedophile stuff coming from and what's the evidence ?

I think it's well established that he was on the Epstein flight logs.

Also, Virginia Guiffre (of Prince Andrew accusations) was working at Mar-a-lago when she was recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell.

I really like Ro Khanna. He is left wing economically & supports women's & lgb rights. He has written three interesting books.

Also like Marie Gluekensamp Perez, Gretchen Whitmer & Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. They are all socially liberal but importantly will help struggling workers. I do have a couple of doubts about AOC tho, I nerd to check some questions I had about her. Marie Perez seems v sensible.

Did everyone see how Merz dealt with Trump in the WH yesterday? Classy. And apparently gave him a present showing him his German ancestry - you too are the child of immigrants.

It was hilarious when he referred to the fact that yesterday was D day, and Trump tried to sympathise with him on the basis of it being a bad day for Germany. Merz, however, reminded him with great dignity that D day was the beginning of the end of a horrible Fascist regime and the allies did Germany a big favour.

Mind you, I suppose in Trump's book throwing out the Nazis was indeed a highly regrettable action.
