Is this actually possible?

this woman has 12 children (nothing wrong with that, i'd keep going if I wasn't such an old crone) but two of her children are just 9 months and 9 days apart. Can you actually conceive days after having a baby, even if you aren't breastfeeding, which I don't think she was.

Maybe one was premature?

cornsilk · 18/05/2008 08:47

Yes it's possible. I've taught siblings in the same year group.

HeadFairy · 18/05/2008 08:48

oh I hadn't thought of that, though they didn't mention it in the article, they implied the next one was conceived within days of giving birth to the previous one.

My ex was 10 months younger than his sister though....

HereComeTheGirls · 18/05/2008 08:49

(and neither of them was premature!)

HeadFairy · 18/05/2008 08:49

Cor! I can see how you can have siblings in the same academic year if the second one was conceived when the first one was 3 months old, but days old??? She's some woman, that's more than I could manage!

Some people obviously get home from the labour suite and get right on with it again!

I preferred tea and toast...

TeaDr1nker · 18/05/2008 08:50

don't think we are getting the full story here. Perhaps one of them was born early?

And if pregnancy is so bad why keep having babies. Also - there are other forms of contraception.

Each to there own though.

Tiggiwinkle · 18/05/2008 08:50

I don't think it's unheard of for women to be already pregnant when they have their six week check up.

cluelessnchaos · 18/05/2008 08:53

Arent you mega fertile straight after you have given birth, when I miscarried I was told to be extra careful because I obviously wouldnt be breastfeeding.

HeadFairy · 18/05/2008 08:54

It is odd she keeps having babies when she hates being pg... but I can totally understand the bit about loving new born babies, they are lovely

one of my friends had her 2nd ds and was at it that night!!!!!!
She has 2 more now LOL, her 3rd is 10 mths younger than the 2nd........

cornsilk · 18/05/2008 08:56

They tell you to use contraception when they come round to check you in hospital though, don't they? At the time I thought, 'What are you talking about? I'm never, ever doing that again.'

fym · 18/05/2008 08:56

yes - you can ovulate this early. I have been temperature taking while TTC and OV on day 10 of a cycle so I'd say it's completely possible!!

SlightlyMadSweet · 18/05/2008 08:57

I have heard of 2 sets of twins just 8m apart.

Both sets were prem....whilst Set 1 were in SCBU they entertained themselves in bed (i.e. didn't have the usually baby is making me too knackered roll over and zonked in hibiting them).

Second set were born v prem, making the gap less than 9m.

Also remember you are only actually pg for 8 1/2m.

The first 2 wk of a 9m pregnancy is actually pre-conception.

2point4kids · 18/05/2008 09:04

i have a friend with 3 kids under 2.5 years. the first 2 are in the same school year and no's 2 and 3 were 6 weeks ish prem hence the small gap!!

cupsoftea · 18/05/2008 11:09

lol puppymonkey

Flame · 18/05/2008 11:19

at sex that soon after.

Siblings in DD's year too - one is a late August baby, one early Sept. I am always amazed at how young the youngest seems compared to the eldest, when there is only an 11 month gap.

fryalot · 18/05/2008 11:20

a friend of mine has boys ten months apart.

And she had a miscarriage in between.

oliviaelanasmum · 18/05/2008 11:45

My dp is 11 months older than his brother and they were in the same school year so everyone assumed they were twins. His mum had 8 pregnancies in as many years although she had a few late miscarriages so only 4 survived. I have been pregnant 6 times in 6 years (only 3 surviving and one on way), i concieved dd2 days after miscarrying.

carolcupcake · 18/05/2008 11:51

My DS is 10 months and I'm 24 weeks pregnant. I breastfed him til he was 8 months and was taking the mini pill so it was a shock that the day he turned 6 months old I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant.....very happy about it though

Nemoandthefishes · 18/05/2008 12:16

I have a 12mth gap so dd1 was 3mths when dd2 was concieved and she was in and out of hospital the first year. I also know someone who has 2 dds in ds nursery year who are only 10mths apart so going through school in same year.
