Hope so tinker because the "choice" of who could take over is disturbing to say the least!

nasa · 13/01/2005 19:25

Uwila - "Does any of this really reflect HArry's views?"

He's 20 years old FGS, he should know a hell of a lot better than that. And anyone with even an iota of brain would know how offensive that symbol is -idiot

No, I think the ex-SS person being interviewd in the Auschwitz documentary said that, not Harry.

wildone · 13/01/2005 19:46

went to a sing-along-a-sound of music recently and was shocked by amount of sneering 'nazis' turned up Yikes. Scary stuff.

Yurtgirl, I think that was someone on a Holocaust documentary last night, not Harry - there are a few posts about the TV prog in with the Harry ones (I didn't see it though).

JanH · 13/01/2005 19:50

Sorry, didn't see Blu had already answered.

open · 13/01/2005 19:54

Leave him alone. He's already apologised. Haven't the media got something better to do?

If that's the worst my kids get up to when they're his age, I shall be relieved!!!!!

nasa · 13/01/2005 19:56

well I wouldn't Open - it shows incredible insensitivity and ill judgement. And with all that money and education. How can you make light of it? he was wearing a NAZI symbol? millions, and millions of people died -oh I can't even be bothered it makes me so cross

nasa - I studied the Holocaust at university so I do realise how disgusting it was (as far as we ever can from books, etc), but Harry is obviously not a card-carrying Nazi as his recent charity work shows.

morningpaper · 13/01/2005 20:08

I was shocked that WILLIAM was also at the party! If MY brother turned up like that I'd have been mortified. They must have both discussed what they were going to wear. Unbelievable.

Hulababy · 13/01/2005 20:32

I think he was very irresponsible, and showed a assive lack of judgement. But he has apologised, nd I can't see there is much more that he can do.

Interestly they have had several survivors of the Haulocaust, from the Beth Shalom Memorial Centre in Yorkshire, speaking on our local news. They accept his apologise and feel that the media interest in this story is OTT and exaggerated.

Kaz33 · 13/01/2005 20:38

Well a self confessed republican speaking, he's a spoilt, rich, privileged 20 year old - why should one expect him to behave with a due sense of properiety or respect?

But just another example of why the whole concept of the royal family is such an ridiclous concept in the 21st century. Give them one house, some cash and tell them to sling their hook somewhere in the country. Its a joke, they are embarrassing and most importantly they sit on top of the whole maggott ridden class system.

Rant over, baby screaming ( not mine ). I'll go have my trifle now.

Caligula · 13/01/2005 20:57

I wonder if it's a generational thing? For a twenty year old, the holocaust, however dreadful, is history. And the Nazis do have a camp funniness, which is why Mel Brooks can do Springtime for Hitler and it be funny. Perhaps the Nazi regalia just doesn't have the same gut response from their generation as it does for older generations?

Having said that, these are the excuses I would make for a normal 20 year old. Someone like Prince Harry, who is a member of the Windsor family with all that means, would surely have a greater consciousness of just how wearing a full Nazi get-up would be perceived by large sections of the media and the public?

And where exactly did he get the costume from? Your average fancy dress shop doesn't usually stock full Nazi Stormtrooper regalia, does it? That's what makes it stink for me - whoever procured it for him, knows some very dodgy people.

milge · 13/01/2005 20:58

Maybe his father really is james hewitt, both show a remarkably similar lack of discretion - did you read about prince harry saying about his girlfriend( from Zim?) - its ok, she's not black!!

Angeliz · 13/01/2005 21:09

For me the holocaust became real when i had dd.

An actress once said about having a baby, "I have never felt stronger and have never felt more vulnerable", it will stay with me forever as having dd made all the horrors of the world real

(AND the joys though)

It was one of Harry and William's pals, ks, so you can imagine, can't you? Hooray Henries, the lot of them.

eidsvold · 13/01/2005 23:02

it was silly immature thing to do - he has apologised... as someone else pointed out - people have been using this for comedy and such for years - Hogan's Heroes, 'allo 'allo, fawlty towers and so on. Yes that symbol is offensive and yet it is seen in public - tatooed on various people, etc.

What happened in WW2 is horrific, what about what is happening now - genocide in various african countries, for example. Surely instead of getting up in arms about this - we get up in arms about places like the Sudan and middle east and so on - to ensure this never happens again!! Where were the media when Saddam Hussein with US help and support was trying to get rid of the Kurdish people....

MY opinion only... really don't care what the royal family are up to - the less press given to them the better.

GRMUM · 14/01/2005 08:55

ha ha! sorry but I just couldn't resist...

Caligula · 14/01/2005 09:07

Glorious.

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 14/01/2005 09:09

Ooh I do like John O'Farrell! Thanks for that GRMUM
