'Natives and Colonials'??? For goodness sake! I'm surprised the Duke of Edinburgh didn't crash that party ;)

elliott · 13/01/2005 14:39

I'm surprised that some of you think it isn't such a big deal. I think its horrifyingly offensive, not just 'bad taste' - I'd think the same about anyone wearing a Nazi uniform as a 'joke' . Yes, you'd think that they (all) would know better how it would appear (well, how it IS). But the fact that they don't makes it all the more awful.

elliott · 13/01/2005 14:40

too slow again. why can't I write like aloha??

noddyholder · 13/01/2005 14:41

Seem to remember Madonna dressing up like this too Harry is foolish but so are most 20 yr old boys

noddyholder · 13/01/2005 14:41

more concerned about the whole vibe of the party tbh who do they think they are?

anteater · 13/01/2005 14:43

another question that might have to be posed is... was it just 'fun' or does he 'lean' towards that kind of ethics?

btw When's that documentary on camps on? Be interesting to watch, especially as I've been to visit Austwitz and Birkenau

spacedonkey · 13/01/2005 14:47

it started on tuesday night bbc2 9pm

Tinker · 13/01/2005 14:50

I don't think you could dress like that, tbh, if you didn't have some sort of sympathies. Or were as thick as shit, which is probably more likely in this case. It's not even a "comedy" Hitler outfit taking teh p* out HH. Whic would still be bad taste and definitely out for someone in his position. He's a dick I'm afraid.

Blu · 13/01/2005 14:51

DS has been invited to a party. Can anyone suggest a way of making a 'native' costume - I'm so hopeless at these things......

Bunglie · 13/01/2005 14:52

Mrs BigD it was on BBC2 at 9pm last night

MrsBigD · 13/01/2005 14:52

b*r, I'll have to watch the repeat then!

Tinker... what's I've read and seen on H I tend towards thick as..

MrsBigD · 13/01/2005 14:53

Blu - native to where?

Blu · 13/01/2005 14:56

Oh, does that matter, MrsBigD? I thought all natives looked the same. See, I told you I was hopeless!

(and in case anyone's wondering, I'm not serious. And Ds is in fact mixed race from a background in a formerly colonised country. And if anyone did post for a 'native' costume a bunch of sensible MN with integrity would post and say 'wtf are you thinking of'. Therefore MN should be better paid than Palace Advisors. QED. )

Blu · 13/01/2005 14:58

However as he is now a native of S London, I think he can wear a hoodie and trousers half way down his bottom.
As a colonial, i don't understand why Harry had to wear a costume at all...silly boy.

DillyDally · 13/01/2005 15:00

Why does allo allo get singled out when It ain't half hot mum should surely merit some attention?

OP posts:
Tinker · 13/01/2005 15:01

You're right DD but 'Allo 'Allo was spectacularly unfunny.

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 13/01/2005 15:06

omg, didn't realise it was a 'natives and colonials' party, haven't they got PR advisers? ANYONE could have told them it was spectacularly bad idea, offensive and in apalling taste. Must be thick as shit, I agree. Not that that's in much doubt! Harry's mother described herself as 'thick as two short planks.'

tigermoth · 13/01/2005 15:23

sounds like all the guests should apologise

Angeliz · 13/01/2005 15:25

Totally agree Aloha.
I actually watched some of the first part on BBC2 on Tuesday and i thought, he obviously didn't see that
Sit him down and make him watch and then see if he'd choose to wear that!

(BTW, did anyone else see that? There was an SS man with no remorse whatsoever )

spacedonkey · 13/01/2005 15:27

I saw it - horrifying wasn't it
