Trump and Vance argue with Zelensky live on tv

That has to be one of the scariest things I’ve ever watched.

OP posts:
Pumpkincozynights · 01/03/2025 08:35

And as for Vance he hasn’t even had the decency to step foot in Ukraine before mouthing off about how Zelenskyy should thank the USA.
Awful vile pieces of s* both Trump and Vance. I got the impression their agenda was solely to disrupt the negotiations, to goad Zelenskyy as much as humanly possible, then when the talks fell apart say ‘Oh look, we tried, but Zelenskyy lost his rag and now the peace talks have broken down.’
Totally not our fault. No we are the good guys we did our best. Now we will just withdraw all aid.

I do think it would good if it goes ahead and Charles makes a speech saying exactly what are all thinking on the world media.

What would that achieve?! (Not that it’s going to happen!)

I agree. Keep the state visit dangling. I’m assuming the king didn’t date it …
like when you bump into someone you’ve not seen for ages

“we must meet up soon”

If only Europe could find the money to buy the minerals 🙏🙏🙏

Yes, they want to replace Zelenskyy. The press conference was done deliberately to humiliate.

I personally think it's fantastic. Zelensky isn't willing to go for a peace deal so let him go it alone. To all those claiming he's being bullied.....get a grip, he's a grown man (supposedly anyway), and meant to be the leader of a country. If he can't handle a debate then how is he going to win a war. Also sick and tired of all the warmongers. Those of you with teenagers, take a step back and ask yourself how you'd feel if they were conscripted, cos that's the only other alternative.

Trump's actions have caused the escalation of conflict, not Zelensky's. So ask yourself, who is the warmonger really?

Yes it definitely appears that way

I don't know, I can't speak for Trump, maybe he wants a little pay back for all the money his county has pumped into Ukraine so far?

The 'payback' is peace. The avoidance of slaughter. Of our children. Yes. I have children of 'fighting age' and Putins troops are killing Ukrainian. Children too.

Putin won't stop at Ukraine. If we concede they will be emboldened and, supported by USA, will march on into other nations who are also our neighbours.

We need solidarity against Putin, not appeasement. How fucking dare he think he can just march into a country and take it over. Fuck off.

Not everything is about money.

Darker · 01/03/2025 09:18

Trump thinks he can annex Canada and Greenland. He is the same as Putin. This time he will get the minerals and let Putin have the land.

Threewordseightletters · 01/03/2025 09:22

Didn't Michael Wolff in his book about Trump state that he spoke about being able to sleep with Princess Diana. I am sure Charles and William are dreading Trump's state visit.

Contrary to what you say, Zelensky is willing to go for a peace deal but, correctly, he wants any deal to preserve Ukraine's territorial integrity and come with guarantees. Trump, however, has made huge concessions to Russia before even starting negotiations and wants to exclude Ukraine from the negotiations - they are expected to simply accept their country being carved up by Trump and Putin.

You may not think it, but you are the warmonger here. If we give Putin what he wants, which is Trump's approach, Putin will undoubtedly come back for more. We've seen this film before, many times. Giving people like Putin what they want always ends up with a bigger, bloodier war than if they had been stopped at the earliest opportunity.

My sons are at the age where they could end up in the armed forces if war breaks out. That is why I support Zelensky and abhor the approach taken by Trump and Vance. The ridiculous thing is they keep wearing their "Make America Great Again" caps. Their approach is designed to diminish the USA.

HoppityBun · 01/03/2025 09:29

kungfoofighting · 01/03/2025 08:34

100% this

All the talk of cancelling the visit is so short sighted

It’s far more in our national interest to keep him on side. It’s not about liking him, it’s about trying to stop relations from disintegrating.

Things are very precarious right now and diplomatic efforts are crucial.

We’re far better off being in a position to exert influence.

The problem is that Charles is head of state of both the UK and Canada.

crumpetswithcheeze · 01/03/2025 09:30

@prh47bridge Putin has been in a position of power for 27 years. What makes you think that now, when pushing 75, he's suddenly decided to take over the world? Surely if that was his intention, he'd have built up his military and done it a long time ago.

He thought he did but his military arsenal wasn't up to scratch. Through a combination of lies and corruption and incompetence and too much self assurance, Russia's military capabilities were not as good as he thought they were.

crumpetswithcheeze · 01/03/2025 09:41

@Branster oh right, so how come the majority on here seem to justify our need to be involved with Ukraine as 'a fight for peace for Europe' when that doesn't even come into play. It seems to me people are happy for Ukraine to keep fighting the good fight, whilst knowing full well they can sleep safely in their beds each night.

MissMoneyFairy · 01/03/2025 09:47

Why was that vile Vance even there, he started the argument saying we need to negotiate. He's never been to Ukraine, is a bully and it was clearly a pre planned set up, I wonder how it would have been if it was just Trump and Zelensky. The meeting should have taken place before Starmer and Macron too. It was awful, two bully boys. The next meeting should be with all the heads of state together and not their sidekicks,

Notonthestairs · 01/03/2025 09:49

Ukrainian support for Zelensky is at 57%.

What the US and Russia want to do is put their own stooge in his place so they can carve up Ukraine to suit themselves.

I mean there is the slight issue of a nuclear button under Putin's thumb.
And given just a bit of time they can certainly bolster their army with investments and help from other rogue nations.
I don't anyone can afford to be complacent about Russia.
If nothing else, forgetting the argument that Ukraine is not next door and it doesn't affect us, in Europe, the net result so far, has been seen through vast increases in prices in energy, oil, cereals. This affects everyone.
And, really, if nobody respects and supports sovereignty of other states, we might as well not bother with anything else.

This isn't sudden. It has been clear from well before he became president that he wanted to take back all of Eastern Europe and re-establish the Soviet Union. And, of course, he annexed Crimea in 2014, supported the rebels in Donbas, supported breakaway states in Georgia and Moldova... the list goes on. He has been building up his military capacity as well as seeking to disrupt western democracies. He moved against Ukraine when he did because he over-estimated the capability of his armed forces and thought the West was weak. Trump is now busy confirming that the USA is indeed weak whilst Putin continues to build up his armed forces.

The point is that ensuring that Putin does not win in Ukraine will, in the long term, keep peace in Europe. If Putin is allowed to win, it will increase the chances of us ending up at war with Russia. As I said earlier, we've seen this film before. There are always people like you wanting to appease the aggressor. But appeasing them always ends up with a bigger, bloodier war than if the aggressor is stopped at the first opportunity.

Surely we must find an excuse not to have the state visit now?

Well here’s one. Trump has repeatedly said Canada should be rhe 51st state. Canada is a sovereign country whose head of state is the King.

Why are we affording Trump a royal state visit when he effectively has said he wants to make Canada the 51st state and Canada is a commonwealth country and again wait for it has the King as head of state.

The hypocrisy is ridiculous.

TY78910 · 01/03/2025 10:07

@crumpetswithcheeze if another country invaded yours, would you surrender and let them take over for the sake of "peace"? Or would you fight for your heritage, your people, your land?

They have offered it's not that that's the issue it's providing defence after

30k peacekeepers is just a symbolic gesture, Zelenskyy is aware it's US who has to provide security

Which is what's scuppering the agreement.
