Baby boy drowned in the bath.

I have to say I'm surprised there aren't more deaths. I bet it's easy to get distracted if you're on your phone.

Poor baby and I also feel for the family and the mum.

I think it's probably the suggestion that it's easy to get distracted for half an hour whilst your small baby is alone in a bathroom. It really isn't. That's why this woman now has a criminal conviction. It's not normal parenting and an easy to make mistake when you're tired.

Obviously I didn't mean half an hour. I meat even a couple of seconds can be enough.

But yes I should have worded it better.

I used to start a post off with I'm dyslexic and autistic so I may not come across well but then I stopped.

What weirdo would think that?

I'd say I'm not a weirdo (although I appreciate your definition of that phrase may well be different from mine) but I thought it after seeing !!!!! after the title, then reading the 1st sentence of your post:
Baby boy drowned in the bath.
It comes across as very over-dramatic and attention-grabbing and, yes, a bit like you're enjoying the drama of this awful story.
Besides, the poster who said that didn't say you wanted "anyone to be upset by the title."
You realise this is all written down and people can read all the relevant words, I expect.
So there's no point pretending that someone had written something different to make them look bad and you better.

This is the news section. If I wanted attention I'd use AIBU.

Yeah this isn't really about the phone.
She didn't just glance at her phone did she?
Sounds like she wasn't even in the room..
And she was already known to social services.
Let's not have a big "blame phones" moment.

I know it's not the bath but last weekend I saw a toddler, perhaps 18mths old toddling towards edge of the dockside near my home. There are just two old strips of cast iron rails less than an inch diameter between child and then perhaps a foot of stone then the dock and 8ft drop into very cold, dirty water. Child was gurgling and toddling closer and closer to the rail. Dad with pushchair was on his phone looking up, I shouted to the child "hey sweetie come this way, daddy is over here" but she didn't hear me, she continued, I rushed over and grabbed her, at this point dad pushed me out of the way and said "I've got her" and glared at me. I just did a hard stare and said "great, I'm glad you noticed in time" and continued on my way. Ffs, seconds later and she'd have been in, in 2or 3 degrees temp water 8ft below the dockside and no way to get her out.

He gave me looks to kill, but he had his daughter in his arms and he knew that I knew how close that had been.
There's no excuse for a phone whilst bathing a baby and none either for on a dockside. Water and babies and phones just don't mix.

Well done to have the presence of mind to intervene.
The stories of child neglect/abuse just keep on coming.i know it's always existed but it seems a daily occurrence.

I think it's good to raise awareness that you shouldn't be on your phone while bathing a child. Yes most know this. Clearly not all do

Nope. I think everyone does. There’s just some that don’t give a shit.

You feel sorry for the mum?? She left her 8 month old completely unsupervised for 26 minutes while she played a game on her phone in an entirely different room. Very clear neglect, she’s a fucking disgrace and should never have charge of a child again. I hope she’s haunted until her last breath.

Completely agree.

Brinny · 19/12/2024 02:30

You should never ever leave a child in the bath alone it's shocking how some people think more about a phone than a child , if they can't find a phone or it's out of sight they panic, where is my phone , shame they don't share the same concerns for a child.
