Is this really going to escalate things?
What is he thinking?!
Am I right to be in a total tizz over this 🤦🏼‍♀️

Eric Trump has told Zelensky that his allowance will be cut off in a few weeks.
What a shit show this is going to be.

Butterfly123456 · 18/11/2024 16:18

Nothing will happen. If P. wanted to escalate, he had had many occassions to do so. This is either a hot potato for coming president T. or both presidents agreed to do that after their recent meeting (remember: what T. says might be entirely different to what he does).

I’ve just read that Sweden is preparing for war. So I think it probably has escalated things.

Sweden was preparing for war way back in January.

If Putin was going to attack them he'd have done it before they had chance to join NATO I expect, of course they have to be prepared. Finland have developed a pretty impressive military and I doubt Putin would want to spread himself too thinly and get embroiled in another never ending war, Let's face it he really didn't think he'd still be fighting Ukraine 3 years later after what happened so easily in Crimea.

If he’d agreed this months ago then maybe the situation wouldn’t have got as bad as it has and less people would have been killed

unsync · 18/11/2024 16:39

Hopefully the targeting will be spot on, they'll hit the Kremlin and we can all say До свидания to Putin.

What a moronic comment

Putin escalated by bringing in North Korean troops to fight on his side. He's also been using North Korean missiles to attack civilian targets in Ukraine.

It strikes me as a relatively mild response by the West, aimed at deterring the North Koreans from upping their support for Putin.

This is my thought too.

Google translate "До свидания" = see you later?

Hope it's not, hope they will target well and it's "go to hell"

We’re not preparing for war, they have just re-issued crisis advice, which happens fairly regularly due to our proximity to russia. Ours arrived in the post today, but the leaflets were produced a while ago and due to start arriving in homes today.

If you are referring to yet another irresponsible piece of journalism in the Daily Mail, it’s all about the context. The booklet referred to also makes reference to natural disasters and has been reviewed and distributed for decades.

It was Donald Trump JR, who is a total disgrace and a very nasty piece of work.

Happyher · 18/11/2024 17:50

WW3 is as much a threat to Putin and Russia as it is to NATO. It’s mutually assured destruction. It’s all a load of dick waving

tommika · 18/11/2024 17:59

UnwantedOpinionBelow · 18/11/2024 13:13

Yes but Ukraine aren't part of NATO and US need to tread more carefully. No one wants a Russia Vs NATO war. I don't get the relevance of your point at all, this isn't NATOs battle...

This isn’t NATOs battle, it’s Ukraines battle against Russia

However, at the closing stages of the Cold War and Ukraine had a vast nuclear arsenal left over from the Soviet era. They disarmed under guarantees of the integrity of their sovereign territory - guaranteed by Russia, UK and USA

Putin breached that guarantee and ‘we’, the US and UK are backing up our guarantee with supplies and training

Bear in mind that Putin has raised many red lines in the last two years which would make Russia and NATO ‘at war’

Shhhthedogssleeping · 18/11/2024 18:00

I’m anything but knowledgeable but to me it seems to be US giving Ukraine a chance of defending their territory and repelling Russians incursions by allowing them to use their missiles in a way that will allow them to do this. If Trump does stop supplying weapons they have a limited window of opportunity to hold on to their land.

Trump Jr was very stupid (surprise surprise) to say what he did. Putin thinks any attempt by Ukraine or her allies to defend itself, as an escalation. Not sure this is more than more willy waving by Putin

MrsPeregrine · 18/11/2024 18:20

Just reading that Sweden has told its citizens to prepare for war and that 5 million households have been given leaflets on how to prepare their homes for nuclear armageddon. It’s getting scary. Not sure I will be able to sleep well tonight. I don’t think outgoing presidents should be able to make major decisions like this. Then again I Bidens been making any of the decisions anyway.

This. Putin is always saying ww3 aggression by the west etc totally ignoring what it has done. It annexed Crimea it invaded Ukraine. The west is actually doing far too little far too late. Russia can afford another war - so maybe it needs to retreat a bit more and stop invading other countries.

That not new they did it in 2018 and now updating in 2024.

WinterMorn · 18/11/2024 18:25

@MrsPeregrine if this is from tabloid journalism, it’s been blown completely out of context.

hby9628 · 18/11/2024 18:43

@MrsPeregrine this isn't anything unusual for a lot of countries. There was something similar not long ago I think maybe in Germany (can't quite remember) & the press made a big thing of it. Apparently it covers all sorts of scenarios such as power cuts, weather causing issues. Try not to let it get in your head.

Leaflets that are reviewed and sent out on a fairly regular basis, and no, we haven’t been told to prepare for war. As we’re not far from russia it is completely standard to get bulletins about russia.

I heard someone interviewed on Radio 4 describing the conditions set on Ukraines use of US weapons, as helping them while tying one hand behind their back .

If they are to make any meaningful attempt at pushing Putin back, they have a limited chance to do this, if Trump does withdraw support.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2024 20:52

Putin says that Ukraine fighting back against Russia's unlawful invasion is 'an escalation.

He just wants Ukraine to roll over and surrender to Russia. Not sure why you are believing anything he says. He invaded, he bombed and killed, he released prisoners specifically to fight in Ukraine, he hired mercenaries, he is now using North Korean troops to fight his war. He is the one escalating.
