The guardian has posted an article talking about the 50 women that have allegedly been killed by men in 2024

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/ng-interactive/2024/mar/08/killed-women-count-a-project-highlighting-the-toll-and-tragedy-of-violence-against-women-in-the-uk

im Spanish and I just checked how many have been killed this year :26.

RIP all of them. Wish sentences were more strict than what they are so men would think twice before killing anyone

Killed women count: 50 women allegedly killed by men in UK so far in 2024

Throughout the year the Guardian aims to report on every woman whose death has led to a man being charged

I think the jey difference is the women in the guardian article were predominantly murdered by their main partner, or an ex or a few by their own sons.

I read this whole article and found it incredibly depressing. But I would have appreciated more context about motive and context.

I understand the profound impact of generational misogyny but what drives this extreme outcome. I'm sure it's very complex - I just find the facts on their own so baffling.

Also women do abuse their partners - maybe they don't kill them as often - also some men who kill their partners have been abused by them, not justifying anything - it's just the data alone seems to lead to a sense of these crimes being made alike when perhaps the unique story behind each death is likely to be much more complicated?

Still horrifying - I just find the numbers alone leave me wanting to understand more.

Dont be ridiculous! How many women are trained in the martial arts?

The OP is about murder not a woman screaming at a man, stop your whataboutery! which is border line defending men who kill women.

I ve witnessed DV and until my mum picked up a knife and threatened to kill my so called father, he used his size and physical strength to use her as a human punch bag or as she told me when i was older "there isn't a part of my body he never kicked punched or bit"

To defend herself she used a knife and he ran from her! as all bullies do and thats what a man is who hits a woman.

Men will continue to use violence against women until there is sufficient deterrent/punishment for these men and protections for women, instead we see less and less men in court and more closures of DV refuges : 50% of women who call a DV helpline will get get no help at all, the sector is very much under funded.

You need to get out more! Lots of women do martial arts, we have a local kickboxing club and it has more girls than boys, parents want their daughters to be able to protect themselves, but unfortunately, some will abuse that training

If we want to get practical I think we do need to educate girls as to what abusive and violent men appear to be and expectations in relationships.

I grew up and did not have a clue. But these men don’t go around with “violent” written on their heads. Much more needs to be done in schools. And setting standards in schools for women and girls. The Times has an article today about female teachers being called “bitch” by the boys. This misogynistic ideal seems to start early.

I totally agree with you on this, the problem is teenagers don't want to listen.

I would include a little chat about boys'/young men's main mission in life is to play the field before settling down if they ever do that is and they will tell you everything you want to hear but is all lies, just to get sex.

I was wondering whether young girls were becoming more clued up, especially with the rise of the appalling incels

But back on topic, nobody explains to young people what love is, and the what warning signs make a bad relationship

Women defend themselves. Not all women can or will.
Men harm others. Not all men do or will.

I suspect Merlin is a woman. And a seal-y type one at that. (Based on earlier threads/posts). <taps side of nose>

One of those women who very earnestly defends the poor menz.

Earlier threads/posts? What are you blethering on about? I think there are only two threads I have ever contributed to, and neither has been controversial.

I don't care what you suspect as you'd be wrong on every count, how many bottles of plonk have you sunk this week?

I don't drink plonk. Only the best wine for me, thank you.

Well alcohol abuse is a thing, and there are people out there that can help you, there is no shame in asking for help!

Lovely derail of what should have been a serious topic. A good day's work for the patriarchy, Merlin!

Lots of women? got any figures?

Unless martial arts are practised to a high level, they are next to useless & in a domestic setting with little room, its easy for man to use his size and physical strength to overpower a female regardless of her KB skills.... which of course, as you well know, the vast majority of women do not have.

I know one female who did kick boxing, it didn't stop her partner trying to drown her in a bath or smashing an object into her face.

Ironically, after she eventually left him, he told everyone it was her who used her kick boxing on him! and many esp women believed him!! such is the charm of the domestic abuser.

They don't hit you on the first date! its a slow manipulation, isolate you, make you doubt yourself, belittle you, make you dependent on them, often financially... then it starts & most have no where to turn.

Perhaps you should start a new thread about violence towards men by women instead of hijacking this one?

The issue is clearly female kickboxer violence against men. Keep up.

The gaslighting is unreal.

No, I wasn't my first post was correcting someone who was going on about Sarah Everard which wasn't a DV case!

You could have said they were 'referencing' her, 'mentioning' her or 'focusing on' her.

The fact you flippantly used the phrase "going on about Sarah Everard" is absolutely gross.

And reflects your casual attitude for the safety of women when it comes to male violence.

"Going on about Sarah Everard"?

Jesus Christ.
