I wasn't talking about Mr.Mosely at all.

He wasn't in Spain with me was he.

I said I noticed in Spain that people weren't taking precautions in the heat.

And that it is very important to be careful in the sun.

I think we all, including myself, can forget how dangerous the sun can be, as we don't deal with sunny climates a lot

So really then your post has nothing to do with this thread and in the context is quite pointless? I have to admit, when I first read it, I thought it was quite tone deaf.

TwixOwl · 10/06/2024 00:05

I've been really affected by this whole story, I can't stop thinking about it. I just can't understand how he wasn't discovered earlier, there's people sunbathing 20 feet away. Someone is missing and no one walked up to the fence or even around the site? Poor man, RIP.

For some reason I am actually quite affected by this. I'm not normally one that gets sad about known personality deaths per se but I genuinely liked Michael Moseley and listened to his podcasts etc... I found his voice really soothing and he just seemed 'one of the good guys' (for what you could tell...). It's all just so sad the way it happened and more than a little ironic. Just reminds you of the frailties of life.

I completely agree with you. I came here to write pretty much what you have written.

NotSoHotMess24 · 10/06/2024 00:15

Not normally particularly fussed when a celebrity dies (seem to not know a lot of them), but am low-key gutted about Michael 😭He was a treasure - RIP.

It's not a 'truly awful way to go.'
A sudden, unexpected death without long-term suffering is a blessing.
I hope there hasn't been any 'foul play'. I hope he died quickly and simply.

Wtf! He was seen staggering around, completely alone, and clearly suffering from heat exhaustion, before falling, and you think that's not an awful way to go? We don't even know whether or not he passed away immediately after falling. There is no evidence that this was a 'quick and simple' death.

Honestly, some people seem to feel the need to argue with anything and everything.

I find the theory interesting and read this particular post with interest. Why the pointless sarcasm?

Se is stating the bleeding obvious and describing it as a 'phenomenon'.

It's quite normal to seek to take a lesson from another's misfortune. Like many here, I thought heatstroke was likely and I've had it a few times. The PP's point was that Brits tend to be complacent about the dangers of heat and dehydration - as, it seems, was Dr Moseley.

It's relevant. If just one extra reader decides to get out of the midday sun, to take plenty of water if hiking in hot weather and to make sure people can locate them in an emergency, it was worth stressing the point.

Did cancer eat him alive? Did dementia erode his brain? Did he have to fight years against the knowledge and fear that he had a condition that would kill him? Did he spend years or decades alone in his home without visitors or care? Was his decomposed body found two years later by the television still running?

A healthy man. Alone for a short time. Death likely the result of a misjudgement of the effect of the heat on his ability that day. He had a good life, he made a contribution, he didn't have to face the deterioration of his body and his abilities. He is blessed. May he rest in peace.

@RedToothBrush what a wonderful post. Dr Mosley RIP, a man who touched the hearts and lives of so many people.

Lighteningstrikes · 10/06/2024 08:29

So so sad 😪

Disturbia81 · 10/06/2024 10:28

@StopStartStop Yes he did actually say he'd want to go in a quick sudden way when he talked about death.

MarkWithaC · 10/06/2024 11:54

What a shocking and sad thing to happen. Seemed like a lovely, gentle, witty man and was such a good presenter.
I'm glad (if that's the word) he's been found, though, rather than the family facing the awfulness of never knowing.

DuckEggy · 10/06/2024 14:12

Livelovebehappy · 09/06/2024 20:24

It makes you think, ‘there for the grace of God….’ I love walking and hiking, and often in a new place will go looking for some walks away from the crowds. Sometimes I’ve regretted my choices because it turns out to be a bit dodgy in parts. Just takes a split second decision to change your life forever. Very sad.

Plus, he would have been widely recognised. Perhaps he just wanted some space and not be recognised.

He was 67.
With a family history of diabetes and heart problems which he knew about prior to COVID. He made a point about none of the men in his family living beyond, I think it was 75 at most.

You make it sound like none of this is relevant COVID vaccines suddenly made his health worse.

He died of natural causes. He was an advocate of the COVID vaccine because he was a sensible doctor.

Take your antivaxx conspiracy BS elsewhere. This isn't the place. Have some sense @Cromartee

There is some evidence of clotting adverse effects for a vaccine now removed from use. However, on balance the evidence I have read seems to say that possible negative effects of Covid including serious clotting events outweighed risks - obviously now we have safer vaccines and these are used.

I am all for vaccines but we can also weigh up their pros and cons sensibly.

MM likely thought he was doing the right thing at the right time. And probably was, on balance. Nothing is risk free we just have to risk analyse as and when we have accurate data to go on. We didn't back then and medical advice and practice has evolved since then. Clot shot massively simplifies the more nuanced reality. Its not always black and white, medical science. He didn't have a crystal ball any more than anyone else did!

blueshoes · 10/06/2024 18:12

@Alltheyearround is this really the thread to be debating vaccines? Have some perspective.

Please take your 'clot shot' emotive lingo elsewhere and start your own thread.

Howbizarre22 · 10/06/2024 18:15

Can you people fuck off hijaking this thread with your conspiracy theories. Have some respect. He had coronary artery disease and as a 67 year old male is in the high risk category for heart attacks/arrests. He was also walking for hours in near 40 degree heat. Jesus you people have zero touch with reality. Crazy.

You misread my post. I was quoting someone else's horrible term up thread (now removed quite rightly)!! I was saying MM was sensible with his advice.

But yes, it is not the place for the discussion I just got drawn in to defend MM.

blueshoes · 10/06/2024 18:33

@Alltheyearround I see. thanks for explaining.
