which island was that?

was it BANDOS by any chance?

as I am worried about all the kind and wonderful people who worked there in the hotel

I know there is a diving school there.

I don't think so - not sure as it doesn't really specify the island name. here's the link . all i know is that its in the south ari atoll and that this area was fairly well-protected.

Moomin · 28/12/2004 09:48

have just checked on google - bandos is in the north male atoll. here's a map click on the bottom right corner if it comes out small to begin with.

KangaSantaMummy · 28/12/2004 09:57

thanks moomin I have been trying to load the bandos page but it won't work

It is quite close to MALE and also the airport because we went by speed boat as a transfer not a plane.

It is so flat there is no high ground we can't think how people would be protected from taken into the ocean

KangaSantaMummy - our honeymoon island, Makunudu is also in the North Male atoll and it was 55 mins from Male by speedboat (just wondering if in similar location to Bandos?) - it is also a tiny, tiny and flat island so I was quite worried about them but from messages on their website I gather it was under 3 feet of water but has sustained only minor damage and everyone is safe - still must have been absolutely terrifying.

KangaSantaMummy · 28/12/2004 10:56

thanks GG It was about 45 mins away by speed boat so perhaps quite close but I cant get the website to work to find out what has happened.

Hopefully it will have been ok.

Wow, that's a paper that doesn't hold back on cutting comments.

Gobbledigoose · 28/12/2004 12:22

SueW, might it just be the crude way in which it's been translated? I know what you mean though!

if anyone is still waiting to hear from people in thailand i can try to post some links to hospital lists,

things here still very bleak. the army have just brough 400 bodies to Phuket from Phi Phi island. The worst story I've heard today was from a Finnish family. The parents were separated and each had one child with them. However the mum thought that the dad had two children and vice versa - only when they were reunited today did they discover that their 3rd child, an 8 month old baby, was dead. Its just so horrific. There are so many lost souls. The injuries here in Phuket are bad but apparently nothing compared to those sustained by people who were in Khao Lak and Phang nga.

Thank God that Lou and family are alright!!! Sarahu, I do hope that all will be well for you also. I had not logged into Mumsnet since I had heard this horrible news and was tossing and turning last night. An event like this puts so many things into perspective. Lou is so very, very loved as is evident on this thread. It is so heartwarming. My sympathy goes out to all the mothers and fathers, so many children were lost. It is devastating.

karenanne · 28/12/2004 13:49

this is so awful...just wish there was something that could be done to prevent this happening.the death toll is rising so quick i switched on the news at 8am this morning and it was 24,000 then at 10am it was 29,000 now sky is saying 45,000
nobody can imagine what these people went through.
i would so love to help ,but sadly things are very very tight financially .ive been sorting through clothes etc this morning and have a pile of clothes and sheets etc ,and wished there was some way of getting them there....

OLittleYurtofBethlehem · 28/12/2004 13:55

OMG so awful - dont know what else to say that hasnt already been said

Does anyone know how we can help? A charity we can donate to or anything? I see Oxfam are sending aid, should I donate to them or what? I really want to help these poor people.
