If WW3 happens and Russia starts bombing UK, what do you plan to do? Do you have a plan of what you would do? Would you stay home or flee the country.. where would you choose to flee to?

Wish I hadn’t mentioned my mini eggs plan, I’m going to have to be a prepper and buy enough for a coma just in case 🤣 Don’t fancy having to strangle you lot with my Mumsnet scarf whilst we are all fighting for chocolate! #TeamMiniEggs for the win!

SpeculatingRooks · 23/02/2024 10:33

I live in Wiltshire near loads of military stuff so I would go in the blast luckily.

If there was a bit of warning I would go and grab my kids from school. Though hopefully Putin will do it at the weekend

ScentOfSawdust · 23/02/2024 10:35

There will be nowhere safe. If Russia nukes Europe or the US then the whole world’s going up.

I’m in London, so would be lucky enough to die immediately. Can’t imagine the horror of emerging from a bunker to a post-apocalyptic world and a slow death by radiation poisoning for me and all my loved ones.

It’s lucky not even Putin’s mad enough to start it. Trump, on the other hand….

ScentOfSawdust · 23/02/2024 10:36

So what would I actually do? Try all my daughter’s fun drugs. She won’t be needing them and getting the next prescription filled would be a nightmare anyway.

Dreemhouse · 23/02/2024 10:40

Honestly, we’re all buggered if that happens so I don’t think there’s much point in giving in any thought.

WW3 won’t happen

countrygirl99 · 23/02/2024 10:43

Just to add to things prepers need to worry about - the majority of plague pandemics have followed majority volcanic eruptions that cooled the climate for a while. Something to do with marmot in the 'stans coming into closer contact with rats and humans. So even if you survive the blast the nuclear winter means you'll also need to survive the black death in conditions where the health service no longer exists in any recognisable form and agricultural outputs have dropped off a cliff. Fun times.

CKL987 · 23/02/2024 10:50

Unless they nuked us Russia would not be merrily flying around dropping bombs over us. I think if you did a bit more research into their military capabilities you'd be reassured that they wouldn't be able to just invade us ww2 style.

I hardly think the main just of the news is fear mongering open your eyes and see what's going on and how quickly things turn. Our family has food supplies and emergency bags ready at all times with medications for those that need them a weeks supply, just gotta make sure now and then stuff is in date in them and tbh in the area we live I would say there's a lot prepared by the talk in the town the last few months for the just in case. Also have a massive extended family and they also have things ready to hand if needed. Things happen far to quickly to have time to make big decisions these days

Ready for what? To go where?

On a serious note, prepping seems pointless beyond a few days or so in case of a power cut. In any situation where society starts to deteriorate, someone will just take your things. The only reason people don't break into your home and take your stuff is because they don't want to. That will change when someone's child hasn't eaten for a few days or needs their medication.

I thought it was a door? I specifically remember reading to take a door off and hide under it. Think it was when the wind blows, you know that book that put the fear of death into every 80's child?

Anyway what I'd actually do if the nukes were coming is smoke a big fat spliff and take a handful of Xanax Grin

Yes, you're supposed to take doors off and prop them against the wall to shelter under, but you're also supposed to close all the doors!

It would be wasteland, hopefully we would fire nukes at Russia in retaliation

I have been to Hiroshima.

If you had, you would never ever use the words ´hope´ and ´fire nukes´ in the same sentence.

I'd follow the wise advice given in the tv adverts when I was a teen in the 80s.

1.Send the children to the 'fallout room'
2.Quickly turn off the gas and electricity, stove or fireplace.
3.Close windows and draw the curtains (vital part).
4.Go the 'fallout room' and huddle in the safest corner of it. You all have a fallout room don't you?

If I'm outside, I'll simply drop to the floor, lie flat and cover my face and hands with my clothes. Sorted.

Nuclear war advert 1980s

This was an advert / information film in 1970s/80s, what to do if we got nuked its a good job we didn't get attacked we would all be dead.

IsleOfPenguinBollards · 23/02/2024 11:42

I would try to resist the urge to get into a nuclear bunker (not that I’m important enough to be allowed in, anyway). Instant oblivion in a flash of light would be far preferable to a slow death from radiation sickness.

I don’t worry about instant oblivion, by the way. If it happens, it happens. It’s beyond my control. Putin and his nukes genuinely don’t scare me at all.

penjil · 23/02/2024 11:43

Depending on their route, they'd have to fly over either Finland/Norway/Denmark/Poland/Germany/Netherlands to get to us......

I don't think any of these countries or NATO will allow Russian war planes to do that.

Relax. It won't happen.

RosyappleA · 23/02/2024 11:44

If the war breaks out here. I would assume elsewhere will be even worse. As for nuclears there are varying degrees we won’t all just die if they go nuclear. We could live with the catastrophic consequences though. All of europe would suffer. Our food supply. Which makes me hope they won’t do this.

what would the majority of the population would do to protect themselves

You can't protect yourself from nukes.

Of course you can. People massively over-estimate the effectiveness of nukes. Get out of urban areas and prepare for a life of misery.

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 23/02/2024 11:50

Russia won't nuke us I don't think, they'd have done it by now going by the threats they've already made. If they do we're all going to be dead PDQ so not much time to do much! Also in terms of missiles I think their army is pretty shit in comparison to us and the rest of NATO. If they do kick off, all NATO countries will annihilate Russia pretty quickly. Our armies massively outnumber theirs, and our technology is far superior. I'm not worried.

IsleOfPenguinBollards · 23/02/2024 11:52

Some people spent much of the 60s, 70s, 80s … worrying needlessly about Russian nukes. Stop giving Putin that power and get on with your life.

WW3 is definitely going to happen at some point unless global warming or some kind of space rock gets us first. May not be in our lifetimes, but it may be.

Well I'd be F#%*ed because I don't own a passport

I've got one but I've got no idea where it is! Hiding in the (654) junk drawers probably...That'll teach me 😬

Those that think they can make it What about infrastructure. Water. Medicines doctors etc

All the animals will be dead or poisoned. All the plants will
Die as sunlight will be blocked. Rain will
Be poisoned

It's Not a case of blow
Up london and the rest of the uk can live in peace and harmony.

Citizens will
Then turn on each other. Those that are not sick from
Radiation.

Lord
Of the
Flies etc.

I want to be dead in the first blast personally.

Anyway I spent my
Teens worried about this in the 80s so I don't think about it now. If it happens I can't change things.

What a depressing poem!

mitogoshi · 23/02/2024 11:57

No point worrying about ifs and maybes. If there is a wider conflict you need to put your sensible brain into gear and act appropriately, just like our forefathers did.

LadeOde · 23/02/2024 12:01

Guess you'd have to hope another country would take you in

Imagine Britons being refugees.
