If WW3 happens and Russia starts bombing UK, what do you plan to do? Do you have a plan of what you would do? Would you stay home or flee the country.. where would you choose to flee to?

ITT: lots of people who've never watched the brilliant classic that is Threads.

Fishbones1 · 23/02/2024 12:06

I should make a will really. Leaving my estate and all my worldly goods to my two cats. I hope it doesn't happen. I'm waiting for my annual pay rise in April

Well if Russia invades UK, it would likely be a nuclear war, seeing as Putin has already threatened nuclear action against Europe & USA

Perhaps the government will release the public information films which were to tell us what to do when they attacked and how to "survive" from 1975. Or you could watch When the Wind blows i suppose for tips on what not to do!

Indeed......

It scared the crap out of me and many others at the time. The blind panic.

Very well researched.

I've got it on DVD, my son and I watched it on Xmas day as we decided it was more interesting than the crap on the telly.

That's one way to celebrate Christmas I suppose! "A skeleton of a cat... a cat's skeleton."

The poor cats {or any animals} won't survive. Edit...Nuclear weapons are evil.

That's a good idea. With an estimated 50 million dead or dying in the UK, one thing you can be sure of is that the probate system will be up and running.

It was only ever considered safe by people who don’t understand the global consequences of modern nuclear weapons being used. If we have a nuclear war, everyone in NZ will die too. We’re better off because we’ll die quickly (I vote for the death by Mini Egg option) whereas they may starve slowly. There’s just no point sweating it. One day, whatever happens, all human life on Earth will end.

I'm probably going by old fashioned talk of New Zealand being the ''Safest'' place.
My natural mother, and later adoptive mother were both involved in CND so I'm likely very out of touch with modern Nuclear stuff- but even back in the1980's it was considered 'Game over' with nuclear winters wiping out food sources and polluting water &c and radiation sickness.

''Protect and Survive'' and ''When the wind blows'' are about where my knowledge ends re nuclear warfare as it's just so depressing.

Humans are the worst thing for the Earth.
We have destroyed the Planet like no other animal possibly could.

Wish I hadn’t mentioned my mini eggs plan, I’m going to have to be a prepper and buy enough for a coma just in case 🤣 Don’t fancy having to strangle you lot with my Mumsnet scarf whilst we are all fighting for chocolate! #TeamMiniEggs for the win!

Yes, you should definitely have kept that one under {crinkly yellow and purple?}wraps!

I make light of it, but obviously it would be horrendous if it really happened.

HelpMeGetThrough · 23/02/2024 12:34

I'd nip up to Downing Street and shit on Rishi's doorstep.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 23/02/2024 12:41

Where are 70 million people going to flee to and how?
I think I would literally stay at home. If nuclear war started it would hopefully be over in minutes and I would be safely on the other side.
If not, I would find a way to finish myself off.
Hth

Artemis6 · 23/02/2024 12:42

Omg, Threads!

I remember this vividly as a young teen and it scared me so much....and the AIDS crisis......and the sight of IRA terrorists in balaclavas.

The 80s were scary.

Cosycover · 23/02/2024 12:49

What would you do if aliens invaded? Or if you were told the sun was going to explode?

Both just as likely as ww3.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 23/02/2024 13:10

To be fair, the mini egg plan will fail if ww3 starts after Easter weekend as you cannot find a bag of mini eggs anywhere post Easter. Need the window from January-April or build a good stockpile now.

We live in London so hopefully will be nuked in the initial blast.

Otherwise DH and kids all have Aussie passports so they could fuck off to pastures new (although how they'd get in a plane under those circumstances I don't know) and the dog and I would stay home and dine on champagne and chocolate until the inevitable end.

Lightnose · 23/02/2024 13:12

Where do you think you could flee to? Which country is going to welcome British refugees?

Bumply · 23/02/2024 13:35

I'm old enough to have lived through this threat before.
I've seen Threads.
I've no desire to survive a nuclear war.

Cesarina · 23/02/2024 14:06

I would be fine, confident that I would be contacted in advance by the government to direct me to the nearest nuclear bunker.
You know, the ones provided for ordinary citizens like you and I, and not just Very Important People like the Royal Family, government ministers, MPs, the House of Lords, Armed Forces, etc.....
(I think I've just seen some pigs fly past my window......)
Seriously - does anyone have the facts about what shelter exists for ordinary people? I would suspect none, But I'd love to be proved wrong.

ismu · 23/02/2024 14:08

Finally try magic mushrooms?

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 23/02/2024 14:08

Probably give a short scream then scatter myself over a wide area.

Not really worth worrying about!

Muchcolderthanoflate · 23/02/2024 14:09

KyleWalkersLibido · 23/02/2024 01:10

I’d loot the nearest shop for mini eggs and eat myself into a sugar coma, then die.

Me too, what else could one do under the circumstances

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 23/02/2024 14:12

countrygirl99 · 23/02/2024 10:43

Just to add to things prepers need to worry about - the majority of plague pandemics have followed majority volcanic eruptions that cooled the climate for a while. Something to do with marmot in the 'stans coming into closer contact with rats and humans. So even if you survive the blast the nuclear winter means you'll also need to survive the black death in conditions where the health service no longer exists in any recognisable form and agricultural outputs have dropped off a cliff. Fun times.

I confess that, to date, I had devoted little time to worrying about marmot incursion. Do you think they can be bought off with Mini Eggs?

IsleOfPenguinBollards · 23/02/2024 14:16

There’s no harm in asking. Apparently their main hobby is photo-bombing, so you can summon one by setting up a selfie.

unsync · 23/02/2024 14:17

Aren't we supposed to shelter under the kitchen table and not look at the bright light? At least that's what we were told in the 1980s.
