If WW3 happens and Russia starts bombing UK, what do you plan to do? Do you have a plan of what you would do? Would you stay home or flee the country.. where would you choose to flee to?

@Brokenpearl Russia knows that if they unleash nuclear weapons, it will be MAD [Mutually assured destruction] so hopefully they won't.

Try not to worry.

Nothing we can do.

New Zealand was once considered the 'Safest' place to be in case of nuclear attack, but doubt NZ would want us all fleeing there.

Plus, pets couldn't go {although I do know of a lovely kind dog flying to NZ from UK this year...at least he will be safe}

Porfirio · 23/02/2024 06:09

It won't happen. Pointless to even think about it.

lotsofpeoplenametheirswords · 23/02/2024 06:14

I'd sit in my little caravan with my beautiful husband, son & dog. We'd be watching our favourite films and we'd be holding each other. And whilst I really really don't want any of us to die, I can't think of a much better way to go if the event is forced upon me to be honest.

I can't do fuck all to prevent war but I'm sure as shit not going to give the powers that be of any nation the capacity to instil panic in me. Que Sera, Sera.

Imagine the crazy rush to get on a plane. There won't be enough flights for everyone. Airline tickets will be like gold-dust and the prices will be skyhigh..

I guess the we’ll all be on small boats desperately trying to leave, wanting the coast guards to help us rather than actively not helping us/ pushing us away etc.

I don’t watch the news anymore so I miss most of the fear mongering. But personally I would go to the Winchester and wait for it to all blow over.

I'll bring the cornettos!

Rush through the final 2 series of the boxset I'm watching so I don't miss the end.

Both situation.. I'm curious if people actually have a safety/ fleeing plan. I know some who have family abroad in safer countries might flee to there. But just generally what would the majority of the population would do to protect themselves in both situations.

Its not going to happen, Russia has poured everything (conventional) into conquering Ukraine, yet cannot, its held back by a hotchpotch of western weapons and the bravery of a nation of 44m.

For me the bigger question is what use are nuclear weapons? they haven't deterred Putin, so our complete reliance on them is misplaced and on recent testing, they can't even reach a target.

Anyway, we are an Island OP, in the event of a conventional WW, Europe would also be attacked and passenger flights and ferries would be shut down, so how would anyone "flee" to the Caribbean etc?

Natsku · 23/02/2024 06:26

There was some times in the early days after Russia invaded Ukraine that I genuinely did think about what I would do if Russia invaded my country. I live in Finland so it felt like a possibility back then (not any more, not now we're in NATO). My bloke would have to go in the military of course, no leaving for him, but I would want to get the children out (sending them to my parents in the UK was my thought, far safer there!). If its not possible to get flights then I'd drive them to Sweden and see if we could travel on from there.

Of course if it was nuclear I'd rather we all died quickly

Willmafrockfit · 23/02/2024 06:27

mainly worry about my family, my dd who is abroad and my other dc who dont live at home, and my dm of course.

It was only ever considered safe by people who don’t understand the global consequences of modern nuclear weapons being used. If we have a nuclear war, everyone in NZ will die too. We’re better off because we’ll die quickly (I vote for the death by Mini Egg option) whereas they may starve slowly. There’s just no point sweating it. One day, whatever happens, all human life on Earth will end.

Me too. I think it would be terrifying if something major happened but you weren't with your loved ones or couldn't contact them. It doesn't even bear thinking about.

NOTANUM · 23/02/2024 07:19

If it was a nuclear attack on London, I’d run towards the epicentre. The fallout from close exposure but not instant death would be horrific.

Stay at home and carry on as normal, until I couldn't.

Ilovemyshed · 23/02/2024 07:30

If anyone wonders, read "On the Beach" by Nevil Shute

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/02/2024 07:40

Nuclear war? Suicide would be the best option. It won’t happen though.

I hardly think the main just of the news is fear mongering open your eyes and see what's going on and how quickly things turn. Our family has food supplies and emergency bags ready at all times with medications for those that need them a weeks supply, just gotta make sure now and then stuff is in date in them and tbh in the area we live I would say there's a lot prepared by the talk in the town the last few months for the just in case. Also have a massive extended family and they also have things ready to hand if needed. Things happen far to quickly to have time to make big decisions these days

Great. And after the first week? The 3rd and 4th month? Pretty sure my tinned tuna chunks will be depleted.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 23/02/2024 07:46

I plan to get trolied and walk, or stagger? towards the light.

Fulshaw · 23/02/2024 07:46

Are people really worrying about this? It’s never occurred to me as a possibility.

Tragic book.

Fizbosshoes · 23/02/2024 07:48

I usually can't even plan what to have for dinner....this has not even crossed my mind

WhatNoRaisins · 23/02/2024 07:51

I think I'd just try to keep the kids happy for as long as possible. It's not like there is anything you could do in a situation like this.

ruffler45 · 23/02/2024 07:56

It would be wasteland, hopefully we would fire nukes at Russia in retaliation

Preppers are so touchingly naive. It's pure fantasy.

Don’t give it headspace, life is too short to live in fear.
