Bloody hell, hold on a minute, is Boris trying to say that old people were telling him that they could sacrificed for the good of the country. And that's why he wrote/said those terrible comments about the elderly?

Did I hear that right?

Perhaps his dad was the first to offer.

I'm trying not to rehash partgate, but Boris excuse that Downing Street was working hard, so having paries, cheese and wine, Christmas quiz was well deserved and ok to keep up morale, really pisses me off.

Everyone was working hard. In my view, doctors and nurses were working far harder than him.

And going through a time where a family member is dying, grieving, preparing funeral is far harder than working in No 10.

Holding the hand of a dying family member is far harder than coming up with the latest slogan or deciding if to put the country back into lockdown. .

God, I'm getting angry now. 😡

This is what they never got. It’s why they can’t get an apology to work because none of them have any idea why people were upset. Allegra Stratton was the only one smart enough to figure it out IMHO.

Good question

https://x.com/implausibleblog/status/1732813228227367015?s=20

Rajiv Menon, "Why were hospitality venues allowed to open but not schools?"

Boris Johnson, "Schools are potential reservoirs of risk, and younger people can easily transmit the virus to older more vulnerable people"

RM, "You think schools are larger risks than pubs and restaurants, hairdressers and beauty salons, and non essential retail?"

BJ, "I'd have to go back and look at some of the discussions, but I think it was sensible" #CovidInquiry

We can therefore conclude if we did not know already that Johnson does not know what sensible means.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/12/2023 17:56

And he’s upset U4T by calling children reservoirs of risk.

minou123 · 08/12/2023 10:31

Thanks everyone for another fun week in the world if Covid Inquiry.
See yiu all on Monday for Sunak.

BTW, @AutumnCrow , where are you? Hope everything is OK.

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/12/2023 11:25

Oh God I’d forgotten about the 10pm pub curfew ‘restriction’.

Johnson’s Testimony - Opinion

After 13 years of seeing this govt attempting to spin even the most damning of self-inflicted catastrophes, Johnson’s attempt to spin the UK’s tragically incompetent pandemic response takes the biscuit. It was as arrogant as it was hopeless.

Before we hear from Sunak, here is a clip from Johnson

Here is something to cheer you up on a Sunday morning...Johnson getting his ass handed to him!

[This is Professor Leslie Thomas KC, on behalf of FEMHO. I have cut out as much of Johnson's waffling as I could. Enjoy!]

I laughed at that, at the time.
BJ did try to filibuster, so I'm pleased Hallett and the KCs picked him up on that.

It's another example where BJ thought he was being clever, but the reality is he came across like a complete tool.

I like Thomas KC, his presenting style is easy to watch. His questions/arguments are easy to follow and he uses really clear language.
I like Keith KC as well, but sometimes he can start to use really technical language, I get a bit lost.

DuncinToffee · 11/12/2023 10:32

I can't watch it live this morning but will try to keep up on msm and sm

Rishi Sunak is giving evidence now.
He starts by saing how sorry he is to all of who lost loves ones, and who suffered during the pandemic.
He says he has thought about that a lot over the years.
He looks forward to giving evidence in a spirit of “constructive candour”, he says.

has he found his whatsapps?

DuncinToffee · 11/12/2023 10:44

Answer is no, he still insists he lost them al and nobody told him to back them upl Hmm

https://x.com/implausibleblog/status/1734164225050771931?s=20

Hugo Keith, "You don't now have access to your any of the WhatsApps that you did send during the time of the crisis?"

Rishi Sunak, "No, I don't. I've changed my phone a few times over the years. As that happened, the messages have not come across"

HK, "Around May 2021, officials discussed the need for Ministers and others to retain WhatsApps.. Did nobody say to you that you retain your WhatsApps?"

RS, "No, I don't recall in my office making that recommendation or observation at the time"

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/12/2023 11:34

Rishi showing less tech knowledge than my 70yr old mum there.

Notonthestairs · 11/12/2023 11:38

What absolute rubbish from Sunak. Particularly from someone who is supposedly well versed in tech.

IClaudine · 11/12/2023 11:39

What a liar he is. So convenient that both he and Johnson lost their WhatsApp messages.

To be fair, I am sure a former investment banker and hedge fund manager wouldn't have used much tech. They still use quills and paper, don't they? And little scales for weighing coins.

Hugo Keith, "Did you as Chancellor take a view of the Cabinet office in those early days, March to May?"

Rishi Sunak, "It was very difficult.. Those first few weeks were very difficult" - He then talks about things after this period

HK, "A number of witnesses say there was a certain level of dysfunction in No 10 and the Cabinet office during that early period. And how the system around the PM was not working well. That must have been obvious to you from No 11? You could not have seen how No 10 was responding to the crisis?"

RS, "My interactions felt fine

Notonthestairs · 11/12/2023 11:47

Am amazed he was able to lead a summit on AI, interview Musk and yet unable to keep a hold of Government messages on whatsapp.

Notonthestairs · 11/12/2023 11:48

Lying to an Inquiry to save his own backside.
Not surprising just reprehensible.

DuncinToffee · 11/12/2023 11:55

For a man famously big on detail, it's striking how little of it Rishi Sunak can remember about the early days of the Covid period.

The Rishi Sunak at Covid committee feels v different to one interviewed in the Spectator in August 2022

In Spectator article he said that no one 'was allowed to talk about the trade-offs' of lockdown

Today he says he was talking about comms strategy, not internal discussions
