Protestor escorted out of the room

Johnson
“I understand the feelings of the victims and their families. I am deeply sorry for the pain and the suffering of those victims.”

Does he mean the victims of his actions or inactions?

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2023 10:22

He looks more angry than sorry

Keith asked him that, what he is apologising for exactly, and Johnson can't answer, just mumbles

OopNorfDahnSarf · 06/12/2023 10:29

It is also live on the LBC News radio station.

IClaudine · 06/12/2023 10:31

He looks terrible, puffy and blotchy.

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2023 10:33

Johnson doesn't accept that the UK had one of the highest rates of excess deaths in Europe.

IClaudine · 06/12/2023 10:34

Trying to shift some blame for crap decision making on to his cabinet. That doesn't tally with what Gove etc. said.

Roussette · 06/12/2023 10:36

Three times he is asked specifically what he is apologising for. Three times he can't answer.

Feelings are running extremely high as some of the public gallery are having to be warned. Don't blame them.

This bluster and waffle is disgusting.

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2023 10:39

Whitty and Valance are being thrown under the bus

Roussette · 06/12/2023 10:39

Yep. Course they are.

IClaudine · 06/12/2023 10:40

It is amazing how vague his memory his. It is all "I seem to recall" "as far as I remember". A normal person would surely have a crystal clear memory of, for example, making the first decision to lockdown. I would have thought that would be a momentous occasion in a PM's career.

Shocking isn't it

tobee · 06/12/2023 10:44

I can't yet bring myself to watch but looking at a still photo; my god - his hair. It just looks so disrespectful. He knows full well how is hair is part of his "image". And disrespectful from those around him not insisting he cuts it.

Roussette · 06/12/2023 10:44

He does like "I've thought about this a lot".

Bollocks

Carrie cut it last night. It's the pudding basin look, quite popular amongst GenZ apparently.
In all seriousness, it is a definite move on his part. And yes, disrespectful.

I have actually seen pics of him with tidy hair, a parting etc. It's quite possible.

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2023 10:47

Just seen his excuse for the missing whatsapps, yeah right

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2023 10:47

Johnson says that he read SAGE minutes “from time to time…perhaps more than that” but generally relied on Whitty/Vallance to “distil” their recommendations/discussions.

And of course he knows about factory resets! He didn't say he hadn't done that. He waffled and blustered.

OopNorfDahnSarf · 06/12/2023 10:49

LBC apologises for the upcoming bad language as the Whats Apps texts are about to be discussed but the PM didn't know there was bad language and the PM says the language has no effect on the decision making process

bombastix · 06/12/2023 10:58

He is repellent. He's angry because this inquiry is a colossal clash to his perception of his omnipotence.

minou123 · 06/12/2023 11:00

Unfortunately I can't watch it live, I'll have to catch up later.

Thank you everyone for the live updates.

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2023 11:04

Johnson confronted with a message from Cummings at the end of March that said "we nearly killed millions of people" to which the then PM replied "totally f**king hopeless".

"I would stress the word 'nearly'," Johnson replies.

jgw1 · 06/12/2023 11:04

I understand that Johnson says that he and his government did there best.
The trouble is his best was crap, but that was entirely predictable to those who had followed his career before he became PM.

His number 1 fan has inadvertently thrown him under the bus here by saying he refused to lockdown when everyone told him too. Which is not what he just said. He seems to be going down the ‘I would have locked down but the rest of the cabinet didn’t want to’ road that all the other cabinet members went down.

In passing he mentioned that the gender balance of his advisors was wrong and there should have been more women in the mix.
