I mean, I thought of having a little fun with the poster currently known as EasternStandard, from what I'd found.

But frankly this thread is too important to be derailed.

AutumnCrow · 30/11/2023 22:12

This is a thread presenting what has been said in an inquiry which specific posters are assiduously listening to and reporting back.

To be honest, I'm getting a bit pissed off with putting the effort in and being obliquely insulted for it. But hey ho.

If you see a name that persistently does one behaviour, then it is imo water off a duck's back. Because a) it wouldn't matter who you were, the actual conduct would be the same and b) there is not really any possibility of discussing the factual basis. There's nothing to consider. If someone is sincere they will not do a) and b) together.

EasternStandard · 30/11/2023 22:28

People can name change I had a couple of very dedicated followers who quote on every thread

I still do, sadly so it didn’t really work

I also am less likely to react even with all the crap people try to lob. I’ve been on mn for years 🤷‍♂️. I don’t fancy getting kicked off due to reacting to angry, jeery posters who don’t like what I post

@PerkingFaintly Really don’t know what you are referring to I’m direct on here

Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2023 22:30

Its very easy not to know fear if you have no vulnerabilities, no vulnerable relatives ( including children), aren't a front line worker, have considerable wealth, can and do work from home, are healthy and relatively young and live in spacious housing.

And then easy to ridicule others for their caution or anxiety, and label it fear.

minou123 · 30/11/2023 22:32

Sorry, that was my fault. I derailed the thread by trying to find out exactly who they were talking about.

Turns out, it was nobody on this thread. So, I no longer care about baseless accusations.

Anyhoo. Back to the Covid Inquiry.
Tomorrow, Matt Hancock is back. The agenda has it only for the morning but based on how other politicians have overrun their alloted time, I suspect he will be giving evidence all day.

I think the other KC from the other representative groups will take some time with their questions.

Next week it's only Boris. I think its only on Tuesday and Wednesday and he is on for the full 2 days.

bombastix · 30/11/2023 22:34

Well I am thoroughly lost on all of this prior stuff so I will be back for the next set of weirdness and presumably a side order of miasmic protests by ghosts of Mumsnet past.

Thanks to @DuncinToffee @AutumnCrow and @jgw1 for comms. I appreciate it

bombastix · 30/11/2023 22:35

Witness not weirdness! Too odd. Have a good evening

EasternStandard · 30/11/2023 22:39

I would have taken the ability to debate rather than the mess that it was

People were woeful at hearing anything else. Same ridicule and carry on as this thread. Bizarrely similar given how everyone joined after the pandemic Hmm

A shame for dc though at the time

It’s interesting people say ‘it was no one on this thread’ maybe you do realise it was a horrendous way to react after all.

AutumnCrow · 30/11/2023 22:41

I'll try and watch Hancock live tomorrow for a while and report some highlights from my perspective.

I going to try to, but I have a couple of meetings, so may be behind.

It'll be interesting to see if he sticks with his strategy of "I was brilliant, everyone else was incompetent" or if he is getting some last minute PR changes tonight.

jgw1 · 30/11/2023 22:52

EasternStandard · 30/11/2023 22:49

You don't agree with me that Hancock is wierd.

OK.

Do you want to debate it?

Debate was referring to children being let down.

And if posters were horrendous at hearing that at the time

They were. It was a shame

Children and many others were indeed let down during the pandemic by the utter lack of leadership from those in charge at the time. Why it was more important to race horses and shoot grouse than listen to the advice of experts on how to educate children safely says a lot about those who were in charge and their priorities.

And sadly demands from many underestimating harms, as shown on here

The evidence from the inquiry is indeed quite clear that Ministers did indeed underestimate the harms of covid and ignored the advice that the UK should have locked down much sooner in order to reduce them. Curiously despite all the available evidence there are still some who seem to hold different opinions.

So you were not on mn at all at the time, but have concluded no one else on this thread was either. How would you know?

You also wouldn’t know the general state of it, which was similar to this thread. Ridicule over anyone suggesting harms to children should be focused on more.

So not much has changed, for these posters anyway. Same approach now.

For a parenting site it was poor, but does show the impact of a successful fear based campaign and adults reactions due to it.

If this thread continues the shitshow of last night I’m not going to bother.

I was wisely advised - perhaps by you! - to ignore and I extend the same to you now.

The thread overall has been interesting when we stick to discussing the evidence and reply only to that.

EasternStandard · 01/12/2023 07:25

Same old same old. I only respond when @jgw1 repeats the goady line, as per usual. If that stops, then continue as you are 🤷‍♂️

And if you all get excited by ‘taking me down’ and slapping each other on the back for ridicule and loads of quotes what do you expect?

You can’t help it though. So bad! Just as in the pandemic.

It’s up to you.

If you goad as per then I might respond and say the same.
